Eloon is as good of a business man as trump

I was going to bump the old Twitter thread, but a new one is good too. The complete arrogance of Elon and his team. The best engineers know their talent. It would be straightforward for the best to get jobs elsewhere. It was obvious to me, when he sent that hardcore email that a lot of people would take the 3 months severance and regroup. And such a shame. Like I said in the other thread, if you want real time, global, two way communication... there is... was?... nothing better.

Eloon is as good of a business man as trump And every bit as charming. I'm always amazed at the egos of WORGs (white old rich guys) who seem to think they obtained wealth through brilliance, even if they inherited it or had a huge bit of luck or connections fall their way. Having money doesn't make one smart any more than its absence indicates stupidity. And, as life likes to show them, it sure doesn't give one the right to treat others badly.

Imagine being so delusional, you think someone else is sabotaging Twitter. Perhaps if they had a well thought out plan when taking over Twitter (or even before making the offer in the first place) they wouldn’t be in this mess. It has just been one bad, impulsive decision after another.

Maybe his plan was to destroy Twitter all along. Yeah, he’s playing 5-D chess the rest of us just can’t understand. Just like Trump. 🙄

Maybe his plan was to destroy Twitter all along. Even the richest man in the world doesn’t purposefully light $44 billion on fire.

Honestly, I am so pissed. I've done so much professional networking and brand-building (sorry) on there, and to have some stupid dude blow it up for fun is infuriating.

Honestly, I am so pissed. I've done so much professional networking and brand-building (sorry) on there, and to have some stupid dude blow it up for fun is infuriating. Same. It’s where my professional network lives and has been critical to my evolution of my new career every step of the way. There’s no place else that will bring all those folks together in the same kind of way and it Twitter actually dies, it’s going to make future job changes harder. (I’m still holding out hope someone in his inner circle - or just his innate greed - will slap him in the face and he’ll get a new CEO in there before it completely implodes.) Plus I just love the vibe in my corner of Twitter 😔🤷♀️

I will be super cranky if it poofs because Musk seems to be trying to break a record for killing a company in the shortest amount of time possible.

Do you have to be bat shit crazy before you get rich or does it happen after? 🙄 People who are willing to do the work and take the risks to get insanely wealthy are kind of crazy by definition. Before they’re super rich, they’re super focused and working very hard and usually kind of keep themselves in check because theyre single-minded at that time. But then once they’re insanely wealthy, they don’t have any guardrails anymore - no financial limitations and no one who will tell them no. And then they get completely bonkers. (And yes, OF COURSE almost all of them do have a ton of generational and/or innate privilege that eases their paths, but still… almost no one founds multi-billion dollar companies without having some pretty serious drive, smarts, and risk tolerance.)

Since he borrowed some money to buy Twitter, does he have funds to pay all the 75% employees the three month severance? Or are they totally screwed?

Has anyone opened an account at mastodon? I have one - opened it in 2016 or 2018. That said, I’ve never enjoyed it at all. And it’s soooo user-hostile to sign up for the average user. Mastodon could be a breakout success because of what’s happening with Twitter, but they seem to be holding right to their decentalization mission and while respectable, also means it’s never going to be a Twitter alternative for the masses.

I really hope it survives. I find it helpful to get information quickly on things like wild fires. It’s quick and easy and often has the most up to date information. I enjoy it and get other information snd don’t follow a lot of people but would hate to loose it. I know one has moved to tribal something or other but I haven’t checked it out. I also have subbed to email info from a few people I follow. I would miss George Takei’s posts. I just looked snd I’m not seeing nearly as many posts as I used to see . I can’t believe that after spending that much money he would destroy it what a clown. Just to think of how much good could have been done with 44 billion.

I know he is still beyond rich but still. Why would he trash it ? I think he is just an idiot and doesn’t really know what he is doing or at least that’s what I’m trying to tell myself because if he just trashed it because he could he is truly evil since so many people use it for their businesses. This is going to hurt a lot of people. It is also used in emergencies and people count on it for quickly passing on information.

Maybe his plan was to destroy Twitter all along. This is my thought. I'm just not smart enough to figure out why. The theory is that since Twitter is such an important tool for pro-democracy, grass root movements, especially in other countries, the Saudis agreed to finance its collapse. Think about how much it costs to wage a war? $44 billion isn't that expensive compared to trillions. If you are an autocratic regime, it could be worth it. However, I think Elon values his reputation a little more than to be trashed the way it is. There probably was intent to muddy the discourse, promote far-right content more, and things like that. I don't think the intent was to completely trash the company in a month. Elon and his team, whatever technical expertise they may possess, don't seem to understand *people*. They bet that people would rather be employed, and would sulk for awhile but eventually show up, and do the necessary things they always did. Until the "hardcore" communication, he might have even been right. But it turns out the Tweeps had faith in themselves and their skillsets and that they would be better served working for someone else. It hit a critical mass point, and it's hard to come back from that.

He has approximately $20 billion of personal cash plus about $6 billion in personal loans in the deal. He's got a ton on the line.

Rumor has it the payroll department has noped out of the ultimatum. Even if he has the cash to make payroll, idk how you make payroll without a payroll team. Somewhere in NYC there's a team of bankers trying to figure out how the hell to protect their position. Call the note? Try to force him into bankruptcy? You could petition a bankruptcy court to operate Twitter through a trustee, but that's hard to do if there are no employees. twitter.com/HaysKali?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
