I'll join in! New year and all that. I joined Weight Watchers back in the spring some time, and lost 32 pounds before the holidays hit. I just weighed myself this morning (meant to do it yesterday but forgot until I'd already eaten breakfast) and since the second week of December I've gained 4 pounds. To be honest I was suprised it wasn't more so I'm not really unhappy about it. We've eaten so much holiday stuff that's high in calories, plus extra alcohol. sigh...But, now that's past us and tomorrow is another day. Notice I didn't say "today". lol. Today doesn't count because it's still the holidays. But I'm back to work tomorrow, and back to exercising (walking) today. Not sure how many pounds I should lose (I have no idea what an ideal weight for my age and height is) but I have a doctor's appointment at the end of January so I'll ask then. And besides the pounds lost I want to work on some exercises with weights. I was going to rejoin my local community center gym (very inexpensive for county residents, and even less money for 55+) but with covid and flu what it is right now I may just get some hand weights and use YouTube for inspiration for now.

I weighed myself for the first time in 2 months and am up 10lbs. I lost over 20 lbs with Noom, but I didn't meet my goal. So I'm not super thrilled with myself. I don't think I will pay for a subscription, I am going to use the app that I believe I can access for free, and track there. I walk daily with friends. I sort of slacked off in Dec, but we have already started up again. I also swam with a friend, and while it's a PITA to get to the pool in the winter (in the summer we use our community pool), I love the way I feel after I swim. I am really not flexible. I am glad someone mentioned YWA - I went and signed up. I am with Delta Dawn - after about 15 min my mind really starts to wander, so hopefully 20-30 helps improve my flexability and joint strength/motion. I DETEST weight lifting, but I know that is something I should incorporate. Is there any sort of channel that has a monthly quick weight lifting routine that I could subscribe to, kind of like YWA but for light weights? I love Juice & Toya on YouTube. It looks like they're doing some kind of 6-week program, but other than that, just using their dumbbell and bodyweight videos has been great for me. youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvf_LH4Nzg10XXtEkDOIuMln0EtIFmM0DThank you Merge! I will check them out!

monklady123 I feel the same way. We have a gym in our apartment complex, but with the weather our area's been having (I don't know exactly where you are in northern VA, but it's sure nice here!), I should just go take a walk outside before it goes back to the 40s next week (boooo).

I would love to hear ideas from peas about how to stay on track with healthy habits when traveling. I travel a lot for work now, and when I'm out of my regular routine, it's really easy for me to skip workouts, eat differently, etc.
No, a hotel gym won't have everything I need for my regular workouts and flight times and time zones may make my normal workout time impractical sometimes. And it's harder to eat healthfully at restaurants than at home. BUT I'm not willing to just give up on trying whenever I'm on the road (an average of 7 days a month).
What's worked for you to keep you moving and eating well when away from home and your routine? My biggest hurdle here is really psychology, I know.

I failed at all my weight loss goals last year. I am determined to succeed this year. More determined than ever before, as we are going to Thailand with two other couples in July. The other couples are all fit and slim, and I'm...... not! I will be way too self conscious to be seen in bathers in my current state. I asked one of the girls we're going with to send me a photo of herself in a bikini taken at the same resort we're going to. I figured that I will look at it every time I'm tempted to eat cake or chocolate or fried food, and it will be an inspiration not to eat junk!
There are exactly 26 weeks until we fly out. I would love to lose one kilogram every week, but that's a big ask. I'm going to start doing the Peleton workouts that are available on my Pay TV subscription. They're only 5 or 10 or 15 minutes duration, but at least it's 5 or 10 or 15 minutes that I'm not sitting on my arse on the couch. I also need to get back to walking every day. I have been so slack lately. Way back in high school my friend and I were always on again/off again dieting. She covered their refrigerator with magazine photos of girls with great figures in bathing suits to motivate her not to open the door! Who knows if it worked!

What's worked for you to keep you moving and eating well when away from home and your routine? My biggest hurdle here is really psychology, I know. So for working out on the road, I set a minimum baseline (MBL). I commit to walking on the treadmill 15 minutes. If I decide to do more after that, great. But if I throw in the towel after, I don't beat myself up about it. I also don't try to get it in when it isn't natural to me. I am an early riser, so I workout early even on the road. I know myself well enough to know that even being on the road, I will not workout after the day is done. As for food, again build on what you are willing to commit to. I think it is unrealistic to adhere to home eating on the road. Usually when I am traveling for work, that means more heavy, sit-down meals, especially at dinner. So I make a choice to eat a lighter breakfast and lunch (protein heavy). At the dinner itself, I usually forgo something that may be "normal" but I think is a waste of tummy space. The bread basket and dessert usually fall into this category. I am also not above eating half, and taking the rest to go even if I actually have no intention on eating it. Most meals are paid for by either my employer or my vendor so no money lost there.

I’ve posted periodically since starting my ADHD meds in July. I have NOT had a healthy weight loss - since July, I’ve dropped 25 lbs, my BMI is 19.5 and my BF% is 20.5. I levelled out in Nov, got RSV in Dec, and dropped again. My goal for the New Year is to start lifting weights again in order to gain a bit back, and to find balance with food again.

I was on the road with my son most of the summer for baseball tournaments. I know it’s not the same as a business trip but we brought as much food with us as we could (or bought when we got there). I exercised in the hotel a few times but mostly just went for walks during down time at the field or around the hotel. Or walk at the airport. Another thing you could do is focus on the 80% rule. So when you are traveling, try to get to 80% of the meals being healthy.

FYI this blog posted a deal on the Saucony Kinarva 13 shoes - I just bought this pair for $50, which included shipping. Looks like OG price was $120, and they were on "sale" for $90, but when I used the code HSXN86 at checkout, it brought them down to $50 (with shipping). I am going to give them a try. I dont run but I walk and I rub the heels of my shoes out or the soles - I can feel both when I walk now on my current pair of Rykas. Hope this helps someone! moneysavingmom.com/saucony-mens-womens-kinvara-13-running-shoes-only-48-03-shipped-reg-120/

I took the kids to the community center today so they could play basketball. I walked on the track more than an hour and so far am at about 12,000 steps for the day. Have also eaten healthy so far, but DS requested tortellini alfredo for dinner, which is definitely not healthy. I did tweak the recipe a little to make it less fattening but still...I will have lots of veggies and not as much noodles and sauce.

Today, I weighed myself and entered my food in the Noon app. I walked about an hour with my friend - it is fantastic outside here, 65 degrees! But a front is coming thru and I had a horrible headache and neck ache. After I was done work for the day, I did 2 of the 10 min yoga classes on netflix (Nike) and I dont know if its the 4 advil I took or the stretches/neck rolling, but OMG my neck feels SO MUCH BETTER - all of me does. I am so unflexible. I could hear my neck just grinding, but I def feel so much better now.

My goal is to take my health serious - a few things showing up that I don't want to escalate into something much bigger. So looking for lifestyle changes that will include losing my excess weight (50 lbs). More Water Eliminate diet soda More protein and veggies Cut/Limit sugar Limit carbs - focus on healthy ones and not pastries, break and junk food.

I've gone for a walk every day for the past 4 days. Hoping I can keep that up as I really do feel better, mentally and physically, when I get outside and walk. I am trying to eat whole food plant based, and I am on my 4th day of that, too. So far so good! The only non wfpb thing I have eaten is a piece of salmon, because I already had it and didn't want to waste the $12 I spent on it. I put it on top of a huge salad yesterday for lunch. For breakfast, I have eaten oatmeal, avocado toast, and Kodiak power pancakes with some blackberries. (not all of that at the same time!) Last night, I made vegetable chili, and it was so delicious that I didn't miss the meat at all. It's definitely a keeper recipe. So far, so good on the plant based eating! I do love all the food, I just need to get myself in the mindset of preparing it. Having things prepared and on hand makes all the difference for me in the healthy eating territory.

Limit carbs - focus on healthy ones and not pastries, break and junk food. In the past, I have lost weight by severely limiting carbs. I am trying not to do that now and focus on healthy complex carbs like beans, veggies and whole grains. I'm a bit nervous as I feel like I am eating way too many carbs to lose weight.

I'm likely not going to walk on the treadmill today, but I am hoping to get 20 minutes or so doing yoga. Yoga is something I am going to start doing as well. I am doing Yoga with Adrienne's January challenge. And the club fitness I belong to has yoga on Friday morning. I'm going to do that for the first time this week. It's something I have always wanted to try, so I hope I like it.

I've slacked the last couple of months and it shows big time. I need to get back on the wagon, so to speak. While this is a bi-weekly thread, I figure I will use this first post as a beginning of the year post as well. My goals for this year: Lose 25-30 lbs (weigh in this morning was 176) Run 3 5ks, walk many more (I like the shirts and the atmosphere) Shrink my backside so I can wear an old dress in March How I'm going to do it: (all minimums) Yoga 3x per week Take the dog for daily walks if the temp is above 30 and it isn't windy/sloppy Treadmill or walk/run outside 2-3 times per week Track food -using my fitness pal Squats at commercials Anybody else want to share their goals or their healthy habits/ideas? If we aren't friends on mfp, my username there is freecharlie2 Happy New Year! I have slacked off on making diet and activity a focus the past few months also. I just read something about the difference between objective based goals and action based goals that was interesting. Objective based are what you want to achieve : lose weight. Action based are how you achieve it : hit your daily calorie target, lift weights, walk... You have to have the action based goals to go along with the objective based goals because they are basically the map to get you to your objective. So, I did the same thing you did and made some action goals for this month. I'm tracking my food in MFP and getting in at least 30 minutes of movement daily that is intentional exercise. I'm also back to weighing myself daily. I'm trying to look at it as data and not be emotional over the number. Taking my power back from the scale!

I forgot to mention something I bought at Fresh Thyme yesterday that I can't wait to try. It's a plant based salad dressing made with cauliflower. It's by Marzetti, called Simply Plant Based, Lemon basil flavor. It only has 70 calories per 2 TBSP. 2 grams of carbs, 2 grams of sugar. The only ingredient that isn't cauliflower, spices or vinegar is xanthum gum. If I like it, I may try to make some on my own. I'm going to try it on my salad that I have for lunch today.

I have a week and a half left on my 6 week program at my gym. I might end up with a 2 lb weight loss. I did it mostly to not gain over the holidays. I only gained a couple pounds so that is a positive for me. But the weight comes off so slowly. It is frustrating. I am finishing a Noom cycle, started WW and also have my FitnessPal. It is interesting to see the different versions of tracking. You can run through WW points rapidly even though calories aren't that high. It is easy to eat way to few of calories on WW if you eat 0 point foods. I like macro tracking in MFP the best. It makes more sense. Noom's green, yellow and orange food isn't really helpful

Today's lunch: pita chips from Aldi, single serving size cup of guacamole from Costco (so easy and tasty!), and part of a hunk of pre-cooked smoked salmon (also from Costco - and dang delicious. I love salmon.), and a glass of water.
I planned on taking a walk this morning, but that didn't happen, so I'll do that after work.

Why can't you eat them? I have loved the Bolthouse yogurt based dressings, but I am trying out whole food/plant based eating, and you can't have dairy. So I am definitely on the hunt for good salad dressings because I eat a lot of salad.

This is for everyone. You have to get in shape before you can get in shape. Go easy with yourself if you are starting from zero.
I am doing well. I had a meal out but that won’t break me. My exercise is still good. I am going to the gym today as part of my new years promise and I will do the treadmill too because I love it!

I’m so irritated with myself and my weight. In 2017 I lost 25 pounds. I loved the way I looked and felt, and it took me 8 months to lose. I swore I was not going to gain it back. I kept it off for three years and a few ponds creeped back on during the early months of the pandemic. Then my life went into a tailspin almost two years ago and while I haven’t gained all the weight back, it’s close. I still mostly eat healthy but I eat more junk food and drink too much wine. I am detetmined again to get off at least 20 pounds. I am going to give eating whole food plant based a try. I live all veggies, fruits, grains, beans etc so I hope it’s not too difficult for me. I will have a hard time giving up eggs and Greek yogurt, but I’m going to try some dairy free yogurt and see if I like that. I’m going to start walking every day again. I did that for a long time but have gotten lazy about it. I belong to club fitness and I typically just use it for the treadmill when the weather sucks. But they have a yoga class on Friday mornings that I’m going to try out starting this week. It is as if we are living parallel lives Just T! I lost 60 pounds in 2019. I didn't hit the suggested weight that is posted for my height (5'8") but was very comfortable at 170 and didn't plan to lose any further. I was able to maintain for almost 2 years. Then tragedy struck our family (during the pandemic) and I slowly lost focus on my weight as I turned all of my focus on helping my daughter heal. At this point I have gained back almost 30 pounds - I am dangerously close to hitting 200. I have cleared my house of all holiday goodies and got our shopping list back on a healthier track. If the weather would cooperate (it has been a snowy winter here in SD) I would like to get back to my walking routine during breaks at work. During this time I also had a total knee replacement and underwent radiation therapy for breast cancer - so this has slowed my progress as well. I am hoping 2023 allows me to get back on track nutritionally as well as physically. I have a spare room set up with a recumbent bike, elliptical, mini tramp, kettle bells, hand weights and yoga corner - so I have all the tools I need. Now I just have to muster up the motivation!

I think the hardest part is getting the motivation and changing bad habits we have developed. The biggest motivator for me right now is that I am turning 60 in a few months, and I am going through a divorce. Also, I have a very clear memory of how good I felt when I lost the weight before. I don't want to end up old, divorced and miserable. There are a lot of things happening in my life right now that are out of my control, so I am looking at my health, both mental and physical, as something I CAN control, so that is my focus now.
