I've slacked the last couple of months and it shows big time. I need to get back on the wagon, so to speak.
While this is a bi-weekly thread, I figure I will use this first post as a beginning of the year post as well.
My goals for this year: Lose 25-30 lbs (weigh in this morning was 176) Run 3 5ks, walk many more (I like the shirts and the atmosphere) Shrink my backside so I can wear an old dress in March
How I'm going to do it: (all minimums) Yoga 3x per week Take the dog for daily walks if the temp is above 30 and it isn't windy/sloppy Treadmill or walk/run outside 2-3 times per week Track food -using my fitness pal Squats at commercials
Anybody else want to share their goals or their healthy habits/ideas?
If we aren't friends on mfp, my username there is freecharlie2
Happy New Year!

I traveled for 2 weeks over Christmas for my brother's surgery and was surprised to find I lost a pound while I was gone. I don't have any weight-related goals except to maintain. My goals are more fitness related:
- At least one, unassisted pullup - 10 full pushups - 3 minute plank - Sub 30 minute 5k - Better alignment of nutrition to working out
That said, I hired a new online trainer a couple of weeks ago, and tomorrow starts the new training cycle

I’m so irritated with myself and my weight. In 2017 I lost 25 pounds. I loved the way I looked and felt, and it took me 8 months to lose. I swore I was not going to gain it back. I kept it off for three years and a few ponds creeped back on during the early months of the pandemic. Then my life went into a tailspin almost two years ago and while I haven’t gained all the weight back, it’s close. I still mostly eat healthy but I eat more junk food and drink too much wine.
I am detetmined again to get off at least 20 pounds. I am going to give eating whole food plant based a try. I live all veggies, fruits, grains, beans etc so I hope it’s not too difficult for me. I will have a hard time giving up eggs and Greek yogurt, but I’m going to try some dairy free yogurt and see if I like that.
I’m going to start walking every day again. I did that for a long time but have gotten lazy about it. I belong to club fitness and I typically just use it for the treadmill when the weather sucks. But they have a yoga class on Friday mornings that I’m going to try out starting this week.

I'm in overall good health and reasonably fit, but I turn 50 this year and I want dial up my attention on healthy habits. I was in a great place with fitness pre-covid - it was just a non-negotiable part of my day that I genuinely enjoyed. Covid and needing to do home-based fitness vs gym-based fitness eroded my discipline and I want to get back to it being a true habit that is second nature, not something I'm forcing myself to do. I need to eat gluten-free for medical reasons but I feel much better when I also eat grain-free. I've been lazy there too, again starting with covid and giving myself excuses to eat junk. I ate pretty strict paleo for several years and I definitely was as healthy as I've ever been then (the way I felt, the way my body worked, the way I slept, and all my medical tests were also excellent). So those are my two areas of emphasis for the year - get back in the fitness and dietary habits that I know work for me and my body so I can sail into my 50s knowing I'm as healthy as I can be.
There may be aesthetic or weight changes from those focusing on those, but they aren't my measures of success or motivators. I find when I make weight or a clothing size or some other quantifiable metric my goal, it's actually counterproductive. I do better when my emphasis is on the habit, not the outcome. It's easier for me to stay motivated and focused because there are countless small wins.
I hired a trainer who's aligned with my thinking and I'm looking forward to having that accountability. I've been making some incremental improvements on my own in recent months, but I like some external accountability when I want to get deeply focused on something.

I really need to get serious about the weight loss...Ideally I want to lose 30lbs. I have been doing WW for years...yes, years....I pretty much maintain my weight. If I weren't being accountable(WW) I would not be maintaining... I walk every day...dog walk, a mile although she is a dawdler so not really a workout. A 4.25 mile walk with a GF 2-3 times a week. I have a spin bike however am not inclined to use it as it is boring...way more fun to do a class. I should look into that. I will commit to stepping up my activity. And consistently tracking my food intake.
I am going to do Dry January...I quite enjoy a glass...or 2 of wine with my dinner when I am not on call...so I shall see how cutting that out for a month affects the weight loss.

This year my goal is prevention. I do not want osteoporosis so I am going to start weight lifting and continue walking about 10,000 steps (I have a puppy). My weight is fine. I was going to have a breast reduction next month but I think the girls are just “normal” now since my consultation. I will still manage my weight by eating carefully and doing keto on and off if I have a bad week.
Good luck everyone. The finish line is amazing!

This is the best I have done during the holidays. I have been up and down the same 5 lbs.
I am starting weight watchers tomorrow. I am kind of bummed I signed up because they really push their processed food. I am eating protein heavy because I lift and am trying to maintain lean muscle mass while I lose fat/weight.
I am going to meal plan. If I know what I am going to eat ahead of time, it helps me stay on track.
I am going for dry January.
I am going to continue going to the gym 3x a week and try to get 8000+ steps daily 5 x a week.
I am going to increase how much water I drink.
I would like to lose 30-35 pounds.

Goals off the top of my head:
Bar Method 3-4 x per week 2 core and 2 arms Peleton workouts per week Running/walking 5 days per week
I haven’t weighed myself in a while, but I feel pretty good/healthy. I’m planning to weigh myself tomorrow for a reality check. The other day I was feeling super chubby but my sister said I looked super skinny so I have no idea what is going on….

TLDR: You don't have to buy their stuff at all

My housing situation comes with a rec centre which you are allowed (only) to book for your family so I plan to lift weights and take a swim tomorrow. I want to go 3x week. The best part is I can walk there.

Anyone doing Yoga with Adriene’s January refresh? Her theme this year is Center. I’ve done this with her most years and it’s so great for setting yourself up for the year no matter what other types of fitness you do. It’s free on YouTube and great for all fitness levels. As I get older ( busy I am also 50 this year! Yikes) I find that hip flexibility and core strength - not to mention mindfulness - are so important for how I feel overall, and these videos tend to really help with all of that. If anyone else wants to help keep each other accountable on this, let me know!

I'm in the want to get into healthy living camp here.
I don't need to lose weight, but I want to get my cholesterol in check. At last year's wellness appointment, it was 235 (slightly down from 2021's 247). My doctor isn't putting me on anything for it, so I'd like to keep it that way and get those numbers better.
I also need to start taking daily walks because I have osteoporosis levels of bone density at the ripe old age of 32, and need to ward that off (I do take a weekly high-dose vitamin D and daily calcium supplement).
Apart from that, I want to increase my water intake and eat healthier lunches. Things like ramen are just so easy, but so bad for you. I bought a large case of guacamole at Costco the other day, as well as some smoked salmon to have with cucumbers and salads. Fortunately, there are very few veggies I don't like, so I'll also start getting things like baby carrots and such when I get groceries.

My January plan is to focus on tracking what I eat and the corresponding BG numbers.
Also some medical appts - check-in with my PCP, a DTaP vaccine, and a mammogram.
I'm also signing up for virtual physical therapy in hopes of diminishing my knee pain so I can walk more as well as use the exercise bike and rower...so holding off on exercise goals for now.

And I *also* turn 50 this year! We will definitely need to mark it by something

Thanks everyone, and thanks for this thread freecharlie! Does anyone here do BODY GROOVE ON DEMAND? I have been subscribed for a couple of years and have done it 20-30 times. Today started a YOU CAN DO IT program with excellent sounding content. I'm super excited about it and have committed to myself to do this every day of 2023 unless seriously ill or traveling with very early departure time. Today's workout was wonderful! They've also added a weekly meditation in this program. I really like this first one. We are to listen to it early each day all week, until we get the meditation for week two. I really think I'm going to stick with this. There is a wonderful FB group for BG and the people there are extremely encouraging of one another. If you are interested there is a great offer right now, $5 a month for new members, guaranteed to never go up in price. (I believe I'm paying $99 or $119 annually and it's worth way more than that.) Goals for 20231. Listen to Body Groove meditation and groove at least 330 days. (I printed off a really cool chart created and offered for free by a BG member to track my participation.) 2. Avoid wheat and dairy completely for at least January and February. 3. Avoid chocolate and added sugar (while eating all of the fruit I want). 4. Avoid soda... I do like my Diet Pepsi. 5. Improve my oral hygiene and use Waterpik daily. 6. Drink 16 oz. of water before each meal and more throughout the day.

I do better when my emphasis is on the habit, not the outcome. This speaks to me. I've really tried to focus on the exercise habit in the last few years and just getting back to it when something gets in the way. I was walking 4-8 miles 5-6 times a week until health issues sidelined me a few different times last year. Each time, it was harder to get back into the routine, but I'm back at it this week. I also starting testing a new yoga studio starting around Thanksgiving and plan to take a morning class 3 times a week. I know I do better with an in person commitment but do think Adriene is amazing. Because the studio is 1.3 miles from the house, the plan is to walk there on yoga days and take a longer (4+ miles) walk 3-4 other days. My diet also needs to be cleaned up. I know dairy, sugars and starches trigger skin issues as well as leave me feeling sluggish, etc., so will go back to a pescatarian version of Whole30 for January. This means I'm joining the dry January group, too.

I failed at all my weight loss goals last year. I am determined to succeed this year. More determined than ever before, as we are going to Thailand with two other couples in July. The other couples are all fit and slim, and I'm...... not! I will be way too self conscious to be seen in bathers in my current state. I asked one of the girls we're going with to send me a photo of herself in a bikini taken at the same resort we're going to. I figured that I will look at it every time I'm tempted to eat cake or chocolate or fried food, and it will be an inspiration not to eat junk! There are exactly 26 weeks until we fly out. I would love to lose one kilogram every week, but that's a big ask. I'm going to start doing the Peleton workouts that are available on my Pay TV subscription. They're only 5 or 10 or 15 minutes duration, but at least it's 5 or 10 or 15 minutes that I'm not sitting on my arse on the couch. I also need to get back to walking every day. I have been so slack lately.

In 2022 my goal was to lose 42 lbs. I lost 30 lbs. so in 2023, I am going to work hard on losing the last 12 lbs.
We have a Peloton bike, Peloton Tread, and a row machine (plus weights) at home in our home gym so I am wanting to commit to working out at home. Last year I was walking 3.5-4 miles a day with my dog but since its winter, I need to get motivated to walk inside.

I just joined Beachbody yesterday. I follow someone on IG who always inspires me and I have thought about joining a challenge for awhile but finally decided it was time. I will be starting the four week gut protocol and four weeks for every body on January 9. I don't know if I will be able to be on plan 100% with the gut protocol (it sounds a lot like whole 30) but am aiming for at least 80%. I think it will be a good way to get to eating more whole foods and focusing on nutrient rich foods. This week I am going to focus on getting off of sugar and eating lots of protein. Will also continue with my Peloton workouts.
Since November I have been doing better at tracking food, eating 1350 calories daily, and at least 100 protein but I actually gained weight. I have been trying to think about what was different in 2020 when I lost weight. I don't know how many calories I was eating but we were eating most meals at home, I was doing more strength training than I was doing before the last 6 weeks (have increased it, but not as much as at that time so I want to increase that), and walked at least 7000 steps a day. So I want to work on getting back to that and see what happens. I want to lose at least 30lbs.

Merge , I start every year with YWA and love it. I’d love a group here to check in with. I’ll be the old lady at 56 celebrating all of you young people just turning 50 this year. The first thing I let go when I don’t have time or motivation is stretching and it only gets more and more important to continue as I’m getting older and less flexible and sit at my job more. So that’s my goal this year - making yoga and stretching as much a priority as running and healthy meals. karenlou, I am just subscribed to the YWA YouTube channel and the videos are posted there daily.

I weighed myself for the first time in 2 months and am up 10lbs. I lost over 20 lbs with Noom, but I didn't meet my goal. So I'm not super thrilled with myself. I don't think I will pay for a subscription, I am going to use the app that I believe I can access for free, and track there.
I walk daily with friends. I sort of slacked off in Dec, but we have already started up again. I also swam with a friend, and while it's a PITA to get to the pool in the winter (in the summer we use our community pool), I love the way I feel after I swim.
I am really not flexible. I am glad someone mentioned YWA - I went and signed up. I am with Delta Dawn - after about 15 min my mind really starts to wander, so hopefully 20-30 helps improve my flexability and joint strength/motion. I DETEST weight lifting, but I know that is something I should incorporate. Is there any sort of channel that has a monthly quick weight lifting routine that I could subscribe to, kind of like YWA but for light weights?
My SIL is getting married at the end of April. I know I won't reach huge goals by then, but I think that is a good goal - I'd like to lose the 10lbs I gained at least.

This year my goal is to lose 25lbs and to maintain a more healthy lifestyle. -Treadmill or stationary bike 4 times a week -Strength training 2 times a week -Minimize processed foods -Flexitarian diet (mostly vegetarian)
I completely neglected my health in 2022 and gained 10 lbs in the process. I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I'm so ready!
