The AQI in my area is a little over 400 right now. I’m so glad it’s a work from home week for me so I don’t have to go out.

Yeah, I was wondering if a nebulizer treatment would just open my lungs up to take in more of this gunky air. Going to have to find out, because I need to do one. That’s not a bad idea. Used my albuterol this morning. It’s way worse here today in the Rochester NY area. Smoke smell is worse, air quality is too. Staying inside with windows closed My DD is in the same area, she called me this morning exclaiming how bad it was there today

My kid's in NJ and said it's bad. Not bad enough to restrict outdoor activities (military) but bad enough that he wants to get his respirator from work. His text to me showed a hazy orange brown over the lawn where he lives.

I'm in MI, definitely can feel it here. I definitely feel it in my lungs and driving home my eyes felt a little burning and gritty. Of course we also have the Cottonwood trees going crazy right now too so it's a double whammy.

It was 'dark' earlier, the outside lights went on.
I saw more people here, including HS kids, wearing masks. I am not going out, not even going to open my door!! I can smell smoke by my kitchen window.

I wish I'd thought to ask if he took his inhaler. Doesn't need it very much anymore, but it sounds like things are really bad in that area.

paperaddictedpea I stand corrected; the graphic for AirNow.gov appears to me to only go up to 400; their scale actually goes up to 500, per a WAPO article generously provided by aj2hall on the next page of this thread, so their statement of a number over 417 is believable, just not represented on the graphic. To clarify, I wasn't doubting you--I was trying to understand & am also on the look-out for good resources. I apologize if I created confusion. wapo.st/3MYvDaV

Wow, I didn't realise how bad it was! They just showed the smoke haze over Manhattan on the morning news here. I can only imagine how much worse it is in Canada.
ETA: I'm kind of peeved (on Canada's behalf) that in order to show how bad the Canada fires are, they show the smoke haze in New York.

I am in upstate New York. Yesterday was terrible. Very hazy in the morning but by the afternoon it was smoky and smelled like campfire everywhere. Today was better, hazy but could no longer smell the fire. Appears it has made its way south as NYC is bad today.
My eyes definitely burned yesterday, today not so bad.

I live in Philadelphia and it is horrible. No outdoor sporting events, concerts cancelled that are outdoors, etc. It has smelled like smoke here for the last 24 hours and it is going to get worse. Just 10 miles north the air quality is worse and it is coming south. Our high school baseball team is slated to pay in their second state playoff game tomorrow. I can't imagine they will have it if it stays the same. If today was better in upstate New York then hopefully it will be out of here by the end of tomorrow or Friday.
I can't imagine what everyone experiences with the wildfires each year in California.

As a Californian, I’m so sorry for all those dealing with this. I know it’s horrible.

I’m sorry to those experiencing this. I saw someone post on IG “I think I preferred the virus” and that reminded of the lightening strike fires of 2020 and we had to spend weeks in the house. That was truly truly the lowest point of my Covid experience-when we could even experience the freedom to go outside.
I hope there is relief soon.

Neighbors who did not wear masks during Covid were wearing them today. Even the HS kids had masks on this afternoon.
We are listed as red unhealthy... The three counties around us, one as close as a mile, are listed as maroon hazardous,
I am in and we'll stay in until at least Thursday.

It’s horrible in Richmond, VA. I literally thought it was something local on fire at first.

I keep seeing pictures and I feel so bad for anyone dealing with this. I live in California and we’ve been dealing with this for a few years and hate to see this happening to those in Canada and the east coast.

Been having a lot of air quality warnings, so yes. After walks, DS says it smells like an ashtray out there sometimes.

I woke up this morning (Northern Virginia) to see slightly better air quality. But it's still in the red zone -- unhealthy range -- so I'm not sure what difference a few numbers makes. It's killing me not to open my windows because it's only 58 degrees outside and I love hearing the birds wake up in the morning. I can hear them out there through the closed windows but it's not the same as having them in the tree right outside my open deck door. -- And, if that's the biggest thing I have to complain about this morning I'm lucky. I can't imagine how it is to have to live right near any of these fires.

We are miserable at work today. Sucky windows and ventilation so it's bad in the office. I turned my desk fan on to blow it around my area, and that seems to help a little. I made sure to take my Claritin, use my Flonase and have taken Tylenol and Sudafed. I meant to grab a mask this morning but forgot. But we have disposables here at work so I grabbed a couple to wear when I leave this afternoon.

Today is worse in the DC area. Smells like smoke and the sun has an orange haze. The levels are over 400 in Baltimore today.

Yes, it's bothering us in Mid MI but not NEAR as bad as the east coast. It's been weirdly hazy peachy skies for the whole week. We finally have a few patches of blue sky. Itchy dry eyes and weird coughs for me and some friends.
Be safe everyone.

Although we are still under a bad air quality alert, the air is clearer (meaning not a yellow haze) and I could actually see clouds and blue skies today. Feeling hopeful the alerts are lifted soon.

ETA: I'm kind of peeved (on Canada's behalf) that in order to show how bad the Canada fires are, they show the smoke haze in New York. Our news has been reporting on the Canada fires long before the smoke drifted down to us. I'm very surprised that our national broadcaster is focussing so heavily on the effect it's having in the US, rather than in Canada. We love Canada here! I just watched another report on this morning's news. The chyron said: CANADA FIRES More than 100 million people in US impacted by fire smoke Can I assume that nobody in Canada is being affected by the smoke? The report again focussed on, and showed video of, the smoke haze in New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. The (Australian) reporter was reporting from the Washington Monument in DC. They then cut to a quick video of the fires, then back to the US where President Biden was telling us he was going to send more help to Canada. So in a three minute news story, they probably showed 20 seconds of footage from Canada.
