I am going to start joining this thread with deafpea , too. I am on a no-buy year for craft supplies, except for things that I run out of like cardstock. I cannot buy any new embellishments, stickers, stamps, dies, etc. I want to get through items that I already have and to use some items that I bought but have never used. I just started the Attic 24 Dune Blanket last week and am making good progress. A few of my crafty goals this year are to... 1. finish the dune blanket 2. finish diamond painting coasters 3. start and finish an Alice in Wonderland cross stitch for my DIL for next Christmas 4. participate in a card challenge every month to reduce some of my paper hoard 5. scrapbook my Egypt vacation from 2 years ago 6. make at least 4 Christmas gift tags each month for my sister's advent calendar

Keep on scrapbooking as much as I can. My hands are starting to hurt with my ra which makes me sad. I told my rheumatologist and he decided to give me a shot for pain lol

I'm a regular reader but infrequent poster on this thread. I love seeing everyone's projects! My goal is to post more in 2024 I'm having to change up my crafting a little. I got a promotion at work in July and now I travel around 50% of the time. I still love to scrapbook but since I don't have my weekday evenings to do that nearly as often as before I'm not making the progress I usually do. I always have at least one WIP going in crochet but they tend to be bulkier projects like blankets that take up too much space when traveling. So now I'm looking into doing smaller, more portable projects to do when I'm away from home. I may start cross-stitching again as that is much more portable. Currently I'm crocheting a baby blanket for my new grandson who should arrive in late March. It's a simple pattern so I'm making pretty good progress. I finished the main body of a queen size version of Tinna's Casablanca blanket just before Christmas. I'll work on the border once I finish the baby blanket. I'm pretty sure I started that blanket in late 2022 so I'm happy to be almost done with it! Wishing everyone a crafty and wonderful 2024!

She did teach this at my quilting class. I had forgotten it. I swear I do somewhere have a written chart of measurements.

I would love to see your crossbody bags! I’ve made a few of the little ones now plus several more that are a more standard size, more like the size of a Vera Bradley Triple Zip Hipster. There are some really great tutorials on YouTube and I’ve customized the size and shape to better suit what I wanted. Her current purse is getting pretty faded/dirty just from everyday use so maybe when I make her a new one I’ll post a pic. I altered this one for the last purse I made for myself. I like the recessed top zipper but wanted a slip pocket for my phone on the outside back and two zippered pockets on the front. youtu.be/oP2ZljtUlcs?si=Dfv5oFbQqtTnTQe4Thank you. I don’t sew but was curious about yours! Ha Definitely envious!!

I 100% vow not to buy any yarn in 2024 until I have used up a lot of my stash. In fact, there is a new self-making Granny Square yarn that I just wanted to try, so I told myself that I had to buy it in 2023 since I couldn't in 2024. 😂 I just got one skein to give it a try because I've heard mixed reviews. Have you seen it? It's pretty cool, if it works. I will let report back on my testing with it. I haven't heard of the Tackle That WIP thing - what is this chart you speak of? I'm looking foward to seeing your quilt and everyone's projects. I tried the granny square yarn. It took me trying two hook sizes to get the first round to come out and then rounds 2 and 3 were smooth sailing so I was feeling pretty good. Then rounds 4-5 took me several attempts, frogging and restitching, changing hook sizes three times, leaving chain stitches out to get it to come out (and still not perfectly). Sure I didn’t have multiple ends to weave in, but I could have woven in my ends multiple times in the time it took me to complete a square. And I’m not too crazy about the color combinations and the feel of the yarn. So I don’t think this yarn is for me. I was happy to try it though!

finsup - thanks for sharing your experience with this yarn, I have heard so many similar stories to yours. I am going to try it tomorrow and I will report back.

finsup - I had to go look at that yarn. I don't crochet much anymore, but made hundreds of granny squares in my teens. It seems to me that this would need you to get a fairly constant and accurate gauge in order for it to come out properly, just like many of the 'self patterning' sock yarns out there. Great idea in theory, but not always in practice.

My last finished project for 2023 - cast off on Dec 29. Still needs a wash and ends woven in, but that’s a few minutes work at best. This turned out to be a really simple pattern once I got going - easy to work on while watching TV in the evenings. First project for 2024 - cast on yesterday afternoon. A sweater for me. It is two yarns held together - a smooth merino DK and a fine kid silk. I have made this in miniature for Sophia a couple of years back and it is easier than it looks - every six rows needs some concentration, but the others are straightforward.

finsup thank you for your review of that yarn. That is way too fiddly for me. I never get gauge right. sueg is that a commercial yarn on the wrap? It's so pretty.

jeremysgirl - yes it is a commercial yarn. It is from Lana Grossa and is called Gomitolo Versione. It comes in 200g balls and was just under €20. The wrap was designed for one ball - the designer has you weigh the ball before starting, then at the end of the increase section. You then need to make sure to end the straight section with the same amount as you used for the increases in order to do the decrease section.

I had a sudden urge to crochet a shawl yesterday afternoon so I've started this Le Nuage It's my second time making it. I had some yarn that I bought at Sostrene Grene years ago (it's a bit like a whirl), it's extremely frustrating to work with, really fine and splitty but getting easier as I have more fabric to hold onto. I'll try and get a pic tomorrow.

Add me to the list of those who have resolved to craft out of their stash this year. In fact, it has been my resolution for the past two years. Last year I did really well and I am finally beginning to see a difference in stash levels. Granted nothing major but progress is progress, no matter how small! One thing I plan to do in 2024 is spend more time on sewing vs quilting (though that isn't going away totally). My first love has always been sewing and after a LONG break from it I'm getting the itch to spend more time sewing vs quilting. Was doing some sewing in December and was appalled at the beginner mistakes I was making, as well as some big ones. My skills have become so rusty, which is so embarrassing considering my 55 yrs of experience and a BS in clothing & textiles. So this year the focus is on craft sewing and dipping my toe back into garment sewing. Back in the day I used to make the majority of my clothes. While I don't intend to go that far, I have some stunning garment fabrics just gathering dust. This year I am going to set goals by the month, rather than the usual annual mile long list that never seems to get shorter. fMy goal for January is to finish up as many WIPs as I can. No new projects will be cut out. I am finding that all those partially finished projects are holding me back. Anything I never intended to finish are gone, donated/trashed in the last big purge I did a couple of years ago. Now it's a month of tying up loose ends and getting project done and out of here! Got the year started off on the right foot yesterday. We had a party to attend and I whipped up a lined reusable gift bag for the bottle of wine we took. It was already cut out, and I was able to put it together in under an hour. Everything used had been in my stash for at least 4 years. This is the pattern I use for my bags - Lined Drawstring Bags.

Anyone else feel compelled this year to stop the spending and/or tackle older projects? That's pretty much my entire plan for 2024! I have a few projects at the quilt and bind stage, one at the baste, quilt and bind stage. This year I'm not doing a quilt along project, everything is my choice from now on. I want to do the Dear Jen quilt I mentioned yesterday and I also want to make an English paper pieced quilt. This is one of my favourite epp quilters and I have her book so decisions have to be made on which project to tackle, I have plenty of material! www.talesofcloth.com/Yes. I'm trying to use up paint, journals, yarn, etc. It feels good to find ways to use it. I'm hoping to learn to do some quilting this year, and maybe crochet something other than a scarf. I have read many of the posts on the craft thread but seldom feel I can accomplish those things myself. I guess if I don't try I won't!

I picked up embroidery for the first time in many years back in November and completed one image and am almost done with a second. They are Christmas pieces that will be mounted in hoops. I need help from professionals though…how do I remove the stamped ink from the cloth? The directions say it’s water soluble but I soaked the first piece and the blue ink is still very visible. Any ideas?I need to join the no buying club! I may have become obsessed with Hip Kit Club scrapbooking kits after subscribing in May. I have purchased several additional kits during sales and now have quite a pile of them. It didn’t help that I stopped other scrapbooking to complete my wedding pictures in November and then picked up embroidery. I’m having some home renovations done and will have to pack up my scrapbooking stuff soon for a few weeks while my bedroom gets painted and has flooring installed. You could try diluted white vinegar or lemon juice. Good luck!

No expert here and it’s been years since I did embroidery other than cross stitch. Do you mean you’ve stitched designs that you’ve had for a while or that you’ve returned to the craft and are stitching new designs? If the former and the designs are old, there is a chance the ink will have set and won’t wash fully away. If it’s a new set, have you searched the manufacturers web site for information if there’s nothing much in the instructions? Try soaking in barely tepid water, rather than cold, with a small amount of gentle soap then rinse clear with barely tepid water.

I need to absolutely stop spending on yarn and ignore the sale emails/posts. I have more than enough expensive yarn to do me for 5 or 6 projects....ugh Ugh - it is so hard. I was at JoAnn’s yesterday and yarn was 25% off and I saw some super pretty yarn for a shawl and put it in my cart. After walking around a bit, I said to myself “What am I doing? I have so much yarn at home and plenty to make a shawl” so despite wanting to, I put it back. I do not need yarn but it’s hard to pass it up, especially when on sale.

Ok we are 5 days into January - and I'm already contemplating breaking my "no more wool" plan.... I have it in my head that I want (not need, want) to do a temperature blanket. Nothing hugely complicated, just a row per day kind of thing. I found this site: Okie Girl Bling & ThingsShe had oodles of colour schemes and charts for how many colours you need based on temperature ranges in both F & C. Walk away Kellie....walk away...LOL

I'm going to be a horrible human being here, cakediva, but I almost feel like the temperature blanket is right of passage for people who crochet. I used a worsted weight and ended up doing mine for six months, January - June. It was plenty big enough. So it doesn't even have to be a year of crocheting.

Has anyone tried Yarnsmiths, Wool Warehouse own brand yarn? Yarnsmiths It's meant to be a good dupe for Stylecraft special DK.
Not that I'm considering buying any *cough*

I’ve used Yarnsmiths lainey and I’d happily buy it again. I was finding some Stylecraft Special splitty and Yarnsmiths made up well. It’s cheap and loads of colours and I really wouldn’t buy it in your shoes.
