quiltz can I get a better look at the one that almost looks like flowers? The pink/red? Do you mind? And if you have a pattern you can share, I'd appreciate it. Looks so pretty.

jeremysgirl ~ This is a fairly easy quilt to put together. The pattern was in a recent quilt magazine. It uses a bundle of fat quarters with a small 1/2 square triangle on the one end of the flower. There is also a 1-1/2" strip of fabric to give elevation (rather than a straight line). I used my accucut to cut out the circles (that are appliqued on afterwards) as circles are difficult to cut out by hand.

But the fabrics and the flowers just so pretty.

jeremysgirl ~~ There are so many tools that are available to make the perfect half square triangle and flying geese. I use the triangles on a roll product and also the E. Burns flying geese rulers. These help so very much as you are sewing on grain and not with a bias cut that will wiggle and grow as it is stretched while sewing. I really recommend that you take a class that is a complete quilt using different sampler squares. There is so much to learn in these beginner classes. I don't learn well with You-tube, as I prefer a person to guide me as I learn. Everyone has a different learning style.

quiltz I found the classes I took to be very good. I, too, like hands on learning. I did buy a flying geese ruler. We were taught how to use it in our class. I just haven't used it since then. The one I'm working on right now is all triangles. I'm just playing around to try to get my lines straight. Like anything I think a lot of it is simply practice. I know the technique, I was taught hands on, but I still have found that sewing in a straight line is sometimes a challenge for me. Not to mention matching the squares up just right. But this time I did pin and I also drew the diagonal lines. So that helped me out exponentially. It's funny really because I watch all these videos on Instagram that make everything look so easy. Last attempt I got way ahead of myself because I have my "I can do anything" bipolar attitude plus impulsiveness that often impedes me.

Week 1 update. This is the sweater I started on Jan 1. Not quite finished the yoke, but will probably get it done today or tomorrow at the latest. As part of my accountability to myself in completing my projects this year, I am going to try and post a progress photo each week.

This month my goal was to focus on UFOs and to spend 30 minutes daily on sewing and I have done both so far. The 30 min. a day seems to be working, although a couple of nights I've not gotten in here until 9 pm. One day all I did was press open seams on 5 pairs of shoe bags I'm working and get the casings ready to sew, but it counts as it was the next step on a UFO. Yesterday I managed to get the casings sewn on 3 pairs. I've found as the week goes one I am beginning to look forward to the time set aside for sewing, so hopefully my creative mojo is not far behind! Should have a photo tonight or tomorrow of the bags. Next UFO up is the zip pouch for a friend that has given me nothing but fits since Dec. Our delayed Christmas lunch (she had Covid) is Wed so nothing like a deadline! sueg - I really love that shade of blue and the shape of this latest sweater. Always impressed with your talent and skills!

I love that you are going to post a weekly photo sueg! I would if I was a single craft at a time kind of person. 😂 Unfortunately my crafting is all over the place.

I've got one quilt basted which I'm pleased about, loving the pool noodle method!
Have picked up one of my crochet projects, it's going slowly but at least it's growing. There's no hurry, just and pick up and put down project.

but I still have found that sewing in a straight line is sometimes a challenge for me. Painter's tape is your friend! I use it all the time to help with straight lines. It will help you keep your eye on the edge of the fabric rather than the needle/seam. Focus on keeping your fabric edges even with that tape edge and see if that helps with your seam straightness.

I'm confused. Do I put the painters tape on my machine or on the fabric. Because I'm kind of irritated at the fabric. Even though I'm pinning and pulling, when I get to the end, I feel like the fabrics pull away from each other but I can't hold them together or risk getting run over by the needle..

Even though I'm pinning and pulling, when I get to the end, I feel like the fabrics pull away from each other but I can't hold them together or risk getting run over by the needle.. On the bed of the machine. Take your small 6" ruler and measure to the right from the needle to where the edge of your fabric should be. I drop the presser foot to hold the ruler in place, then put the left edge of the tape along that edge. As for this fabric, how wide is the seam allowance? Also, how close together are you placing your pins? Also, what type of needle do you have in the machine. I'd suggest a 70/10 universal needle for piecing, smaller stitches and go slow. Another option to try is place a strip of tear away behind your seam, making it an inch or so longer than the fabric. Pin and stitch as usual. You may find that the fabric doesn't separate as much because you have the excess tear away to hold onto rather than the fabric. Once stitched it should tear away smoothly at the seam. I keep precut strips of tear away on hand to use for fussy seams and to back buttonholes, so a good product to have on hand. ( current project setup)

**GypsyGirl** I get what you mean now. Ok so I am using that size needle. And I changed it before I began this project. It is a 1/4 inch seam. I can see that I could have used more pins. That probably would have helped. But I was trying not to get them close the edge so I didn't have to pull them out as I go. And now I see what you meant by the painters tape. That seems like a helpful trick.

**GypsyGirl** I do the same thing with my ruler and tape! LOL. I tried rubber bands but they annoyed me and the fabric kept catching. Tape all the way!

As always I am so astonished by the quality of the crafts in these threads. You all make some lovely items! I'm on a bit of a craft vacation at the moment after feeling a little bit of burn out from Christmas crafting. I did, however, decide to do a small project with some shells I collected at the beach last year. They didn't come out exactly as I'd hoped but I do like them and I'll be making more.

Keep doing it though and soon you won’t need pins for piecing 1/4” seams

@quiltz - wow! I love those quilts…they are all beautiful! I finally tried the granny square yarn and it worked perfectly. Each round color changed exactly as it was supposed to. I did go down 2 hook sizes in order to get gauge. I really liked it though. Colorway: Aran-Cream

I had painted on the final wave since no matter what I do I can never seem to make a decent resin wave.

I look at these threads, but hardly ever add anything (I think I've only posted a pic once) because I have to search for how to post a pic every time. Finished this bag with 3 different leathers Sunday; and then made 2 more, both with black leather and Pendleton Wool on the flaps. just need to make the straps! (Now we will see if the picture link works).
