Good morning! I was up past my bedtime last night, then had trouble falling asleep. But of course I was up at 5 just like clockwork. Apparently I'm starting 2024 with a crazy headache and stuffy nose too. Boo! Hiss!
But I'm pretending like I was just too excited to work on my quilt today to sleep. Better than gifts at Christmas really. I got all my triangles done. Now the test of my skill will be if I can sew the blocks together right. That's how I'll know I did a good job making the triangles. I'm nervous to see how it comes out. Once Jeremy gets out of bed, I can go in and press them.
I have decided I need to do a no spend on crafty stuff for quite a while. I have so much just sitting in my stash waiting to be used. I want to try hard to finish up some projects that have been hanging around way too long. Has anyone heard if the Tackle That WIP thing is going on again this year? I feel like I need her little chart... 😂 I fell right off the bandwagon last year.
Anyone else feel compelled this year to stop the spending and/or tackle older projects?

Welcome to 2024! We were up almost until 1am, once we got back from fireworks in the park (and down our street, and generally all over), so I slept late - almost until 9am! I am also trying to stash down this year, though I will admit to a last minute purchase yesterday afternoon - a sweater quantity of yarn for one of the sweaters in my queue. I have quite a decent stash, so I should be able to get a lot done without buying. I also have two WIPs that I think were on my 2023 finish list, so I will once again try to get them done.
I plan to cast on for a new sweater for me this afternoon. It is knit with two yarns held together. One is a yarn I bought in Australia before I moved here, so it has been in stash over 15 years! The other is a kid silk yarn I bought to go with it late last year, once I finally (!!!!) decided what I wanted to knit.

Anyone else feel compelled this year to stop the spending and/or tackle older projects? That's pretty much my entire plan for 2024! I have a few projects at the quilt and bind stage, one at the baste, quilt and bind stage. This year I'm not doing a quilt along project, everything is my choice from now on. I want to do the Dear Jen quilt I mentioned yesterday and I also want to make an English paper pieced quilt. This is one of my favourite epp quilters and I have her book so decisions have to be made on which project to tackle, I have plenty of material! www.talesofcloth.com/

sueg I will also admit that I placed a yarn order two weeks ago for a blanket to match our camper. I accidently ordered the wrong color on one of the yarns so I ordered four more skeins in the right color that I'm waiting to arrive. I also kept my monthly fat quarter kit for January. I'm cancelling after this month. I happened to really like this months fabrics. But I have plenty on hand to last me a while. I am also not committing to not buying scrapbook stuff. Just yarn and fabric. I get a monthly scrapbook kit and it's fairly cheap. I my need to supplement it with extra embellishments. But yes, let's get on those WIPs! And dig into our stashes!

jeremysgirl, if you haven't explored EPP, then I think you would be surprised how straightforward it is. In the main it's hand sewing. Some sizes work with a sewing machine but generally it's hand sewing. It will not be above your skill level at all. It just a matter of whether this method appeals to you. It's a great way to slow down and enjoy the process. Plus it's portable, you can make up a little carry about kit and sew while sitting around a campfire, maybe. My biggest fear is making rubbish colour choices. Tula Pink has a great YouTube tutorial series. This is episode one m.youtube.com/watch?v=CzTBbxHsj9Y&pp=ygUfdHVsYSBwaW5rIGVuZ2xpc2ggcGFwZXIgcGllY2luZw%3D%3DThe other person I check out is Jen Kingwell who has done tutorials on YouTube too. You don't need to make a quilt, it would be a perfect method for making cushions, mug rugs, placemats, etc.

I picked up embroidery for the first time in many years back in November and completed one image and am almost done with a second. They are Christmas pieces that will be mounted in hoops. I need help from professionals though…how do I remove the stamped ink from the cloth? The directions say it’s water soluble but I soaked the first piece and the blue ink is still very visible. Any ideas?
I need to join the no buying club! I may have become obsessed with Hip Kit Club scrapbooking kits after subscribing in May. I have purchased several additional kits during sales and now have quite a pile of them. It didn’t help that I stopped other scrapbooking to complete my wedding pictures in November and then picked up embroidery. I’m having some home renovations done and will have to pack up my scrapbooking stuff soon for a few weeks while my bedroom gets painted and has flooring installed.

Happy new year crafty Peas.
I finished my knitted corner to corner blanket, it's the ugliest thing I've ever made! The cat likes it though so it's all good. I'd definitely make another one with nicer yarn, it worked up so quickly.
I'd like to do some hand embroidery this year, I've ordered some kits and I think they'll be my only crafty purchases for a while.

Hello each and all and a very good New Year to everyone. I was up late last night, not because I like to see New Year in but because I'd picked up my Christmassy Blanket to work on (that counts as a WIP, right!) and I was watching The Nutcracker on Prime. I discovered at about 1.30 am that I'd made a mistake and my eyes were too tired to put it right at that point so I've just spent half an hour frogging about 100 stitches and correcting them. It was easy enough to do and I really HAD to. I often ignore mistakes but a black and white design is pretty unforgiving. So I'm ready to carry on with it later today. I don't recall Tackle That WIP but it certainly deserves a place in my life. When I opened the drawer to take out the Christmassy Blanket I saw something that I'd forgotten I'd even started (in an attempt to use up my stash) so I need to be more aware of what I'm doing. I'm really pleased I made those little cards last year, with details of what I was making, hook size, where I was up to etc. as I was able to just pick up the CB and start right in without wondering what hook I needed so that was a nice plus point. I have too much stash in all crafts but I will never promise to not buy papers from the Graphic 45 range or any to my taste depicting Alice in Wonderland. Two of my favourites that draw me in every time. I really need to make time and space for papercrafting as I do miss it. Here's to a happy and successful crafting year for us all.

Honestly wellway I do like the idea of hand sewing. However I'm nervous I'd get my seams all messed up and not even. Now that I think about it I could just mark them, right? That was a very stupid thing to say on my part...

That was a very stupid thing to say on my part... Would this help? I use this for hand sewing in dressmaking. You just pull the red marker down to the right size, hold it against your fabric with your non-sewing hand and stitch up to it. It's very simple but maybe you already know this and I'm off the mark!

I love the pinwheels! Those are such retro colors. Your triangles are coming along well actually. Do you have a walking foot? I bought mine for doing binding but I use it on pretty much everything. It keeps top and bottom fabrics moving at the same rate.
It also helps if your triangles are all exactly the same. I use my sizzix big shot for cutting mine. I can do 10 layers at a time thru the machine and they all come out the same size. I’ve got a tumbler in 2 sizes, squares, and a few different triangles.

I did the square trick where you put two squares together and do a line down the middle, see on either side of the line and then cut in half. Honestly I think this was a better move for me. I was taught this trick in my quilting class.

I’m not willing to commit to no spending because many times I just don’t have the right thing or enough of the right thing (for sewing projects, anyway). DD expressed an interest in wanting a new small crossbody purse and I enjoy making them. She’s pretty particular about the fabrics she likes though and I don’t tend to have what she likes in my stash. Thankfully those projects are small and don’t take much fabric to make and they’re a quick sew.
She has also expressed an interest in using my embroidery machine. There is one at school in her makerspace class and the teacher just got new software for digitizing so she has been playing with that. I had to buy an upgraded converter box and software for my machine so I can download designs so I hope she ends up using it.
I could scrapbook every day for the rest of my natural life and not run out of supplies. Well, maybe I’d run out of adhesives, LOL. I haven’t bought anything new for that in quite a while.

I would love to see your crossbody bags! I’ve made a few of the little ones now plus several more that are a more standard size, more like the size of a Vera Bradley Triple Zip Hipster. There are some really great tutorials on YouTube and I’ve customized the size and shape to better suit what I wanted. Her current purse is getting pretty faded/dirty just from everyday use so maybe when I make her a new one I’ll post a pic. I altered this one for the last purse I made for myself. I like the recessed top zipper but wanted a slip pocket for my phone on the outside back and two zippered pockets on the front. youtu.be/oP2ZljtUlcs?si=Dfv5oFbQqtTnTQe4

I think one will be completed pretty quickly, but the other one...I'm not so sure. I 100% vow not to buy any yarn in 2024 until I have used up a lot of my stash. In fact, there is a new self-making Granny Square yarn that I just wanted to try, so I told myself that I had to buy it in 2023 since I couldn't in 2024. 😂 I just got one skein to give it a try because I've heard mixed reviews. Have you seen it? It's pretty cool, if it works. I will let report back on my testing with it. I haven't heard of the Tackle That WIP thing - what is this chart you speak of? I'm looking foward to seeing your quilt and everyone's projects.

Happy New Year! I'm excited to join this thread. I haven't done that before!
My first project will be to make a reading tent for my classroom. I have PVC pipes and old sheets I plan to use. I don't think I need to buy anything--if I do, it will be connectors for the PVC.
I need to go through my stuff and see what other in-progress projects I have. I've spent the last 2 years in grad school and had no time/energy for creative projects so I'm not sure what I have! LOL.
Have a crafty 2024, everyone!

There's another technique to make 8 at a time that avoids that issue and which I love to do if I want 8 HSTs exactly the same. In your case, that would mean ending up with 2 identical pinwheel blocks.
