Why are Stanley Mugs so popular?
We were at Dick’s today and while SO was looking at shoes, I was looking at the mugs. I’ve never paid much attention to them before. They are so expensive! I am a Hydro Flask girl, and I thought those were expensive, but Stanley is almost twice as much for the same size. And then later today, someone’s post about pink Stanley Cups popped up on my IG feed. My water stays cold all day long in my Hydro Flask (I don’t put ice in).
Anyways, fill me in, what am I missing?
ETA - I guess they are not that much more expensive. I was looking at Amazon and some are selling for $70. But other sites have them for $45-$50.

No clue, I think they are ugly and unwieldy. I like my Yeti cups and bottles

The people I know who like them like that they have a handle and can fit in their cup holder. I tested a friends and was relieved I didn’t buy one, it doesn’t fit in my fridge water dispenser.

Mine holds a ton of water and yet fits in my cupholder, which is a big plus. It's also easier to lift and maneuver than some similar-capacity insulated cups. I also find it easier to keep clean than some similar mugs. I also have some older model Stanleys that still work and look new, while, eg, the paint on my Hydroflask flaked off after a few years (and YMMV but I actually think a Hydroflask and a Stanley cost about the same for the same size).
I mean, I totally get that they are trendy and that there are plenty of functional alternatives out there (and I am sure there will be another it water receptacle soon), but I do like mine.

Marketing to capitalize on a trend started on social media. (Making an existing product trendy)
Remember the Von Dutch hats Paris Hilton made popular? Remember when Uggs were just ugly Australian-made boots? Those things happened before social media, but you get the idea. In those cases celebrities and paparazzi photos and mags and TV did the job that Tiktok does now.
PS I dare you to find an ER nurse under 40 who doesn't wear Figs joggers and Hoka/OCs and carry a Stanley into work 🤣🤣 it's all about finding that target audience!

I have Stanley knock off cup. I like it because it fits in my cup holder and with my weakness in my hands, it is much easier to have the handle. It does keep my drink cold and the ice doesn't melt through out the day.

Well I love my 40oz Stanley for the large size, the attached handle, keeps my water cold all day, outside doesn't "sweat" and because it fits my sectional sofa and car cup holders. Also, I'm glad OP updated about the price. Sheesh they aren't that expensive.

I didn’t see the appeal to Stanley cups until my son bought me one for Christmas a year ago. I love mine! Ice stays frozen forever. Over 24 hours even with water refills. It also fits in my cup holder in my car and my couch cup holder which most travel cups don’t. I like the handle as well. I’ve carried around a cup for years. Just a plastic contigo one with a straw and this is so much better. I do have a 2 pack of the Reduce brand from Costco that were only like $28 and I did like them but they aren’t as good as the Stanley. I still do think that $45 for a cup is expensive but the amount of times I have dropped this thing and it hasn’t broken is insane.

Have you seen all the videos of women lining up and fighting for the Valentines ones that just dropped at Target?
They sold out company wide in 4 minutes 😳
It’s just the trendy brand. Like Lululemon.
Once you try one with a bangle you won’t go back to the ones without though.

I haven't seen the video, I need to go look for it. I went to the Target website after I saw the photo of the mugs, no wonder I couldn't find it on their page! ETA - Found a video in this article, actually a couple of videos. One lady falls down while running to get one! www.delish.com/food-news/a46265717/stanleys-valentines-day-tumbler-target/

I don’t get the Stanley love. I had hydroflasks for YEARS before they were trendy. I have simple modern bottles that are way better than my hydroflasks. I’ve never owned a Yeti. My favorite water holder is actually a Walmart special with a straw that came in a gift pack 😂

katlady I have Yetis (10oz, 20oz and 2 30oz) and you can get a handle ring that slips on and off. All of my Yeti's fit in my various cup holders in the van and dh's sedan. I prefer no handle to less bulkiness. And my Yeti's don't leak and aren't easy to tip over.

Never really got the hype about them, then I bought a knock off one.
I like that it fits in my cupholder, and has a handle. It works, but there is no way I would buy dozens and dozens.

I have hydro flasks too. My kids got me a red Stanley for Christmas. I don’t ask for it, but they just thought I needed it.
I do like that it can fit in the cup holder in my car. My hydro flask is pretty useless in the car.

I don't get the Stanley love at all but I can admire the way they have capitalized on the random popularity. Personally, I find them ugly and too heavy. There's a local crafter who has started customizing Stanleys (not knock offs) with glitter and such. She sells them for $115 per cup and she sells every single one she makes. It shocks me.

Stanley cups are cuter than the gaudy Starbucks cups that the baristas purchase before the public even has a shot. I will not stand in a line for one or wake up at 5AM to be the first at Target for one, but sometimes a color suckers me in if I happen to pass by. I was off work super late (12:30 AM) when I happened to be on Facebook and saw a post stating they were available online. I ordered from the comfort of my home wearing my PJs and I didn't get trampled or fall on my ass. I work in a restaurant and spend a lot of time in the kitchen expediting food and I chug water like it's going out of style. It gets so hot in there!

I love mine. The only "problem" is they last forever and there are so many cute colors that I cannot justify owning more than 2. I have one for home and one in my office.
I have never gotten into the craziness for any trends so I would not be the one fighting over the new releases LOL.

I saw a TT on trends and Christmas hauls, and Stanleys were mentioned. I believe it said that when tweens and the trends hit the midwest with women my age (LOL), that means the next trend is on the way. The new "trendy" drinking thing will be an Owala brand (sp) bottle. This is a prediction. Another one is the mini platform uggs - they are already on the way out (due to the same reason of where they are being worn) and tall uggs are next.

I have two Owala 24 oz bottles and I love them because there are two ways you can drink from it. A small hole for chugging and then a small oval opening that you suck on like a straw. I like that it has this and I'm not drinking directly from a straw. They also have nice color combinations. And it fits perfectly into my Honda cupholder.

Have you seen all the videos of women lining up and fighting for the Valentines ones that just dropped at Target? They sold out company wide in 4 minutes 😳 FOMO. Fear of Missing Out. I can fall in to that trap, but I am working hard to not go down that path. I bought one Stanley, and it is the Admiral's cup. I thought I had to have it. Turned out I hated it, but the silver lining is that my husband loves it. When he runs the sprayer and the combine, he does not have enough cup holders. He has a cold drink and his hot coffee, and only room for one cup. We discovered the wide base of the Admiral's cup works to put on the floor and doesn't tip over when the machine gets a big jolt from a bump or a fast turn. So, I am happy that he likes it and I didn't waste money on a stupid purchase. My favorite insulated cups are the ones I bought in a case lot from SaveACup for crafts. Never really got the crafts done, but love those cups. They are the YETI style 20 ounce ones. Hot stays hot and ice stays in them for a day or two. I ended up buying the mag slider lids to replace the original lids to keep the flys out....always have flys in the cab! LOL I hate finding one in my drink! Plus I got the colored mag sliders, so everyone knows who's cup is who's.

It is the one I take to barre class--it's easy to pop open and close the lid. My one complaint is that the one I have, which is the one you have, doesn't hold enough water, but the larger one doesn't fit in a cup holder.

I have always had and loved Yeti's; however, holding them hurts my arthritic hands. My aunt bought me a Stanley Ice Flow 30 oz., and it is the BEST cup ever! I now have 4 because it's ALL I drink with 24/7. I got one for $27, two for $35, and one as her gift to me. The hot pink one I got for $35 you find everywhere for $70. You just have to shop and look for the best price. They are dishwasher safe, I love the straw, and first and foremost I can carry it and drink from it easily with my sore hands. LOVE this thing. I no longer use my Yeti's. Stanley Ice Flow

I don’t get them either. To me they are just too big. I know they are popular to personalize with citra strip or something like that. I’m in a few Cricut groups. I would kind of like to try it but not for the price of the cups 😂
I think Starbucks in Targets were releasing some cups today and there was a long line outside for when they opened. One store only sold one per ticket/household and the other sold them all to five families snd there were a lot of really ticked off customers as it was supposed to be two per household. I would be ticked to if I stood outside in the rain snd then they didn’t follow the rules.
That said I am too cheap to buy expensive mugs/cups.
I can kinda see the ones with handles as I would like those but not for the prices they are going for and honestly I don’t like the really big ones anyways. If they had 20-24 Oz maybe but they look huge. I can refill my cup.

I also have issues holding cups and don’t really like my metal water bottles but mostly don’t like the small opening and that they are a pain to open in the car so stopped using them and back to plastic water bottles.

The Ice Flow is different from the other Stanley's. Even the handle is different. It's on the top not the side, and makes all of the difference. I don't find the 30 oz. huge. My daughter (the school teacher) has the 40 oz. and loves that size while in the classroom. Now that's too big for me. LOL!

I don't get it either. We have 3 Yeti's that we use religiously. I get to work, fill it with ice and water and it's still cold with ice when I leave at the end of the day. I don't understand these people who have an abundance of Stanley's. $50+ per mug and you have 20+. Sorry I can think of better ways to spend my money. I saw a video the other day of some lady cleaning out her cupboard and she had 2 cupboards, 3 shelves each, full of them.
