That is so frightening! So glad you weren't hurt. I know it is just the beginning of the hassle and repairs but so thankful you made it out.

Having the tree crash into your house and do all that damage is devastating enough... but to be there when it happened and so close to being injured is unimaginable. I'm so sorry you've had to experience that. I would be completely shook by it all.
We are surrounded by large trees and that's one of my big fears. We've had multiple trees fall on our property in the four years we've lived here already. We had six removed near the house, but it's a drop in the bucket to the what's still out there.

I’m so glad you are all safe. I hope you are able to get ahold of your insurance company and they take care of you. When my friend’s house burnt down, the insurance company took care of it all, but I realize with all the storms they are probably backlogged. Praying for you all.

So glad you and the dogs are okay. But wow. This happened to a friend of mine years ago, also with an oak tree. They had just finished dinner and were all in the kitchen cleaning up (she, her dh, and their three kids) when the tree fell right through the roof and into the dining room where they had *just* been. Its awful. And the whole process to salvage stuff, and rebuild is awful. I figure I'm not being discouraging to say that because you've already thought about it all. But, insurance paid for my friend to stay in an apartment close by (including the dog and the gecko), and in the end she was able to rebuild to just what she wanted. They did take down two other oak trees on their property because my friend said she would never be able to sleep in any type of storm knowing they were out there. Again, so glad you all are okay!

Also, while I know nothing of your situation, weather, property issues or restrictions, etc…but something to think about is a lot of people I’m my area who were dealing with flood damage rented RVs for extended periods. It would be tight quarters but might be easier with pets.
Again I am so sorry and sending you nothing but positive thoughts.

How very scary! Can you call a handy man to prop up any heavy branches so that you can remove some valuables from the house? Have you got snow that will come in and cause even more damage? I personally would take tons of photos, from a safe distance, to provide your insurance company and then see if you can get a few guys in there to remove anything that is about to fall. You are so lucky to have escaped with no injuries to yourselves and your pups. I imagine you will all be sleeping with one eye open for a while.

Oh my word! I am so relieved you are all okay! I am so sorry for all that you have lost and all the work ahead. I hope you are easily able to find a place to stay with your dogs. I'm praying that should your DH go to secure things, that he is safe and successful. I'm so sorry!

Im so sorry. I agree that your husband should not enter the house until it is safe to do so and that you should call your insurance company asap. Try Hilton Home 2 Suites for a place to stay. They have a larger fridge, microwave, dishwasher (I think), and you can get a cooking burner from the front desk and I believe pots and pans. Our room had basic dishes and glasses and I think flatware.
