If you saw the names Atticus Finch or Boo Radley would you instantly recognize the names?
I was traveling recently in a city that had stores side by side - the corner store was Boo Radley's and next door was Atticus' coffee shop. I laughed and said. "Oh cool names, from the book". People looked at me like I was from Mars. These were four women close to my own age ( late 50s). I was stunned they didn't know what I was talking about.
Would you know?

I would. I have a dog name Scout. Yep, from the book. The new puppy we got last year was going to be named Boo Radley but it wasn't an S name. Long story that all our dogs have had names that start with S.

yes although it's been a long time since I read it
I asked my kids - 32 and 23 said they recognised Finch - and 17 said she knew the name but not the source. None of the three recognised Boo Radley

I would know it even though I may have never read the book. Very clever.

I would know it in a heartbeat - we read the book in high school and I still remember quite a bit of it clearly.

Yes. I actually read the book not too long ago because truth be told, I had never read it. Not sure how I escaped it in high school. I suspect I tried to read it then and didn't like it so I just set it aside. Although I was a voracious reader I never really liked English class. lol. I finally read the book as an adult because I saw SO many people saying "oh this is the best book ever" or "such a treasure, my favorite book", etc. Honestly, it was okay but I would never reread it.

Ok so I'm mid-50's, and while the names are familiar to me, I have no idea what book they are from.
Can somebody tell me?

I’m not sure I ever read the book, in spite of a BA in English, but I know the reference.

I didn’t know until my 30s. It was not required reading here. I’ve seen the film a number of times and read the book. It’s not hugely well known within my own circle.

Yep. Even though I didn’t like reading the book in school ( O hated assigned reading), I enjoy the movie and the story. I did read Go Set a Watchman several years ago.

Of course. And I would have to stop in. I also know why Britta on Community TV show was a ham for one of the Halloween episodes, although my husband didn't remember that part of the book. I am surprised that women of that age didn't recognize that. TKAM was required reading in 6th or 7th grade for me. I thought that was pretty universal.

I had to Google. I never read the book and I really don't think my son or grandson has either. I will have to ask them.

Yes, but I’ve never read the book.
I’d definitely always recognize Atticus Finch, but I don’t think I would have recognized just Boo Radley if they weren’t paired together.
