Clean Sweep on TLC was a fav of mine. We are a family of 6 without adequate storage so I appreciated the process of organizing and they didn't spend a ton of money to decorate. It was like watching a tame version of hoarders with more emphasis on making cluttered spaces function better.

I really miss decorating shows too. I loved Design on a Dime and Decorating Cents, I was also a fan of Christopher Lowell. I like getting ideas for how to change my decorating inexpensively. I miss those shows. I get tired of seeing shows about houses in countries I can never afford to buy LOL I miss all these and Candace Olsen too! I miss the old food network also, too many competition shows. It used to be real cooking and Iron Chef (the orginal) loved those. History channel is no longer history either, it's pretty much American Pickers 24/7. Bleh. I agree. I think there has to be a happy medium. I'm sure the ratings show that these "reality" type shows are doing well, but against what? LOL. If the only thing on are "reality" type shows, then of course the ratings are going to be good for some of them, there's no other choices. I got so many ideas for my first apartment from Christopher Lowell, Design on a Dime, Decorating Cents. They showed affordable decorating. I also used to copy recipes from some of the actual cooking shows (ones that were actually practical recipes, not the ones where you have to traipse through the alps on winter solstice for the one day that a specific flower blooms so you can drain the nectar for a holiday spiced buttered rum.) I actually like some of the competitions. I do like chopped and I like cutthroat kitchen. I lamented the same thing about regular TV as well though. I remember the days when sitcoms died and were replaced with reality show competitions or CSI. Now we are back to a happy medium with a good mix. I'll never understand the appeal of shows like the Kardashians. Those people do nothing and are an embarrassment to the human race LOL. I never understood Paris and Nicole either. Everything Paris Hilton touched turned rancid. The one thing shows like this have taught me...is how people could watch the Gladiator and other deaths in the Coliseums and not feel guilty about it.
