What I am most intrigued by are the ovens with the doors that slide inside when you open them. Neff slide & hide oven
I want one too Genius! I've seen this program on my channel guide...I'll have to give it a look.

"Hollywood is married to Alexandra Hollywood and they have a son.[3][10] In 2013, Hollywood's affair with fellow The American Baking Competition judge Marcela Valladolid was made public. His wife was considering filing for divorce, but the couple have since reconciled.[10] Hollywood expressed his remorse on The Jonathan Ross Show." Wiki Wow. I watch Marcella on "The Kitchen" on the Food Network here. I had no idea! I did catch an episode of the baking show while on vacation. Very polite. They did tease the Baked Alaska show, so I knew what you were talking about there.

Another one who loves the bake-off...I've seen all of the British ones. What I like most is how the contestants aren't bitchy and competitive, they seem to get on well and are supportive of each other.
I also watched the Irish one, and that was interesting, let's us say the Irish are even more "relaxed" then the Brits...some of the technical challenges looked like a high school cooking class!
They also did an Aussie one, I didn't like that much, the contestants were fine, but I think they got totally the wrong mix of hosts/judges, there wasn't any chemistry and it all felt a bit awkward. I think the British one got the mix just right, the two host ladies obviously get on well and they have the comedy and then the judges are a bit more 'straight' but not too much.
I do love a bit of Gordon Ramsay though, but not the shouting and ridiculous carry on he does in Hell's Kitchen or Restaurant Nightmares. I loved watching him in the F Word when he's just being himself. Gah - that opening shot when he walks along and takes off his shirt...I'd run along after him for sure!

I LOVE Bake Off! A group in my family are each assigned a baker and when the baker is eliminated the family member who was assigned that baker has to make the technical challenge for that week. We've had great fun and are already looking forward to the next series.

You don't need to be close by, we are all over the UK and have set up a closed Facebook group just for us to do this. We take photos of us making the dishes and upload them and those that live close enough get to share the goodies. It would be great if we were all together but it's not possible.

Thank you for mentioning this. I loved the American show but I haven't seen it on again.
I like the lady hosts. They make me laugh. And I love the name Mary Berry.

We've had great fun and are already looking forward to the next series. Sounds so fun. But, gillyp, curious minds want to know what technical challenge you got and how did it go?? Some of the techniques would be completely beyond me, like filo pastry. I wouldn't know where to start.

I admit to eventually being relieved that my contestant last year was first to be eliminated and I had an easy cherry cake to make! The ones I can remember that our group posted were a domed cake with green icing (sounds revolting but was great) that my 72 year old SIL made, a windmill cake that my niece made and the youngest of the group, my 17 year old great niece, was the one who cooked the bread challenge. I think it was ciabatta.
For the more difficult challenges we realise that some of the techniques are beyond some of the group or we may not have the specialist equipment so we make something as close to the original that we can. It's a lovely way for such a big age range of us to do something together, albeit via the internet for maybe half of us.

Absolutely love Mary Berry. Can't abide Paul Hollywood. He is so sleazy. I love the programme even though they seldom do gluten free stuff.

The GBBO (Great British Bake Off) is the best! The program has a large Dutch fan base. (There is also a Dutch version, that is quite popular.) Can't wait for the next series, and what's the best: my husband likes the program too.

The hosts are Mel and Sue. I first saw them hosting a lunch time show years ago. They were so full of energy and so quick witted, and very different to the other sycophantic tv hosts on at the time. They've since done lots of other things and are currently back on tv with another afternoon magazine style show.
Sue is the long term partner of the beautiful Anna Richardson who also does a lot of British, often food related tv.

She is beautiful isn't she Have you noticed how many voice overs Mel does? I don't know if she's always done a lot and I've only recently noticed or whether she's been offered a lot more since the success of Bake Off etc.
