So my son has these marks on his back I just noticed. He's almost 16. They don't hurt (he didn't know they were there) they aren't raised or indented. I Googled briefly and it does say common in them? Never heard of that! Mostly from a growth spurt (he is taller every few weeks I swear!) Anyone else had this or seen this happen?

My children don't really growth spurt (yes, they are weird) so I haven't seen them on my sons. It doesn't seem all that strange that a boy would get them though. There are some boys who grow very, very quickly during a growth spurt. It makes sense that their skin might not be able to completely keep up. My girls have stretch marks in the standard places for teen girls. (Poor girls take after me. I get stretch marks and scars very easily.)

I started getting stretch marks on my hips when I was going through growth spurts as a teen. It is totally normal. They will eventually lighten up and not be as red any more. Mine are only visible now in the summer when I get a tan.

Yes, those are stretch marks. I got them when I finally grew in high school. They will fade.

Thanks. When I first saw them I didn't even consider that. Then a friend mentioned it and I Googled and it said like 40% of boys get them....had no idea! Thanks.

DS has them. He's 19. He's taking a medication that seriously increased his appetite and he's put on some weight rapidly.

My DH has had them since he was a teen. He's 6'2 and he went through growth spurts pretty fast. I would think they are normal.

My son grew nine inches in eighteen months when he had his biggest growth spurt. He got stretch marks. They did end up fading; young skin recovers pretty fast, thank goodness.

Yes, stretch marks.
DS got a few during his quickest growth spurts. They faded fairly quickly, and they're barely noticeable now.

My husband has stretch marks on his back at his waist line. He got them when he was in wrestling in High School, he says from the pulling on his skin while wrestling.

I just noticed some small ones on the back of DS's legs this past week. I also noticed that the jeans he has been wearing all school year have become way too short for him seemingly overnight, so it appears that he had a growth spurt recently.

I don't know about on his back, but my son got some on his knees between 14-15 years old during a growth spurt. He's now about 6 feet tall. I also have stretch marks on my back and butt due to a growth spurt in my teens. I'm 5'11". They have faded a bit over time, but since I have naturally tanned skin, I cover them up.

My son has these but much worse.
I noticed them when he was 15. He is 21 now.
They have faded over the years but I was completely freaked out when I first saw them.
I will see if he will let me take a picture of his later.
BTW, my son is 6'3' and weighs 160 pounds. (skinny little turd!)

DH has some very faint ones on his back. I've yet to see them on mine but they're both not done growing yet so I'm sure I'll see some soon.

My stepson had them on his back when he went through a huge growth spurt. He went from 5'6 and pudgy to 6'6 and pencil thin in less than a year when he was 13/14. I'm pretty sure his have also faded by now, he's 21.

I had a friend in college that had little stretchmarks up half his spine. It was due to a massive growthspurt in his teens. They had faded and I barely noticed them, but he was a little selfconscious of them himself. I found them fascinating, because it almost looked like someone had marked him with inch-long lines up his spine with a ruler. When I hit puberty and my breasts just wouldn't stop growing, I got stretchmarks on them pretty quick. I am bigchested, and I think most naturally bigchested women have them. Stretchmarks are just part of puberty and pregnancy

Two of my DGDs have some at ages 13 and 17. They are growing quickly, so if they appear because of that, I'm sure boys getting them, too is quite common.

Neither of my kids have gotten stretch marks yet. They both seemed to pudge up a little bit before growing up, maybe that gave a gentle growth/stretch to the skin? However, my DH has them above and below his knees from a growth spurt. And my BIL also has them on his legs. It not abnormal

DS has them too. I'm happy to hear they fade. DS has them due to being over weight. I cried when I saw them (not in front of him,) I truly hope his will fade.

twoboyzmom here is a photo of my sons back. He is now 21 and they have faded quite a bit. They were really angry looking when he was 15. (The vertical red line is a scratch from our dog and not related!)

My dh (6'6") had major growth spurts when he was a teen. He has stretch marks on his knees.
i do not think my 14 yr old has stretch marks, but he does complain sometimes about his skin stretching.

Thanks everyone! Puts my mind at ease...was concerned when I first saw them. Should we put anything on them or let them be?

DD#1 had stretch marks on her upper thighs (visible when she was in a bathing suit) when she was in her teens. I don't think DD#2 ever got any, even though they are only an inch or so different in their height.

Please please please if your child has marks on their body that look like stretch marks or like a tiger scratch them. Please look up Bartonella. My son had these marks on his back at 14. Drs kept telling me they were stretch marks....but my son hadn't grown...then they said steroids but my son had never taken these. I couldn't let it go. I came across a pic Dr. Martin Fried took for a boy. And his and my sons picture were identical. After a long journey my son tested postitive for bartonella. Bartonella is a serious bacteria u can get from a cat scratch, lice, fleas, ticks, bedbugs, and more. It affects the heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, brain, ur eye sight, joints, thyroid, and more. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. My email is SQUEEKY1214@AOL.COM. please don't blow this off.

Both of my sons, one a teen, one an adult, my teen dd and myself all have very bad stretch marks from growth (additional ones for me from weight gain during pregnancy). We have them on our hips, back, arms and legs.
We all have skin that marks and scars very easily. While my stretch marks grew paler over time, they are just as noticeable.
Anyone can get stretch marks. Some people are more prone to them than others.

One of my best friends has them on both sides of his waist. He is 6'6" and told me it was from growing too fast.
