So sorry you have this.
Can anyone tell me if you are not sure that you had chicken pox ,can you still go in and get this shot?
My husband and I both are over 60 and were thinking of going in and having it.
Hope you heal up fast...hugs

Sorry to hear this, you really deserve some good news for a change!
In the words of Elizabeth II, you are having an "annus horribilis."

Yikes, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. But you know, in a way? I am glad for this thread because I haven't even really thought about shingles beyond that commercial I see with Terry Bradshaw. If it happened to me, I wouldn't even have recognized it-so this thread is kind of like a PSA for some of us. I hate that it happened to you, but maybe some good will come out of it? (I hope that came out the way I intended it to... ) I understand! Yes, it is something to think about, and since many of us here are immune-compromised, it is certainly worth asking our docs for the vaccine, even if you are under 60. I should have asked for it when I knew I was going to have the 3-month course of steroids. It is also good to get the word out that if you happen to get shingles on your face, if you can't get into your doctor immediately, head straight to the ER. I was assured by numerous ER personnel last night that they were glad I came in. I share this because of the numerous threads and opinions we have had here as to what warrants a visit to the ER.

Oh no, I am sorry! My mom has dealt with shingles on and off for a couple years now, she has not had the blisters, but the nerve pain. It seems like when she is stressed, it flares up.
I hope the medicine works quickly and will pray for a speedy recovery. Hang in there!

My mom had shingles on her face about 23 years ago. She had it along the side of her face near her ear. She recovered quickly thanks to medicines and pain killers. I'm so sorry you have to suffer with this. HUGS I hope your recovery is quick and painless. xoxox

gah, Elaine! What else can life throw at ya!
I have had three shingles outbreaks in my life and they were all in my 20's. First times in my breast/side of torso area, and the last two outbreaks across the front of my neck. Gosh, I've got the prickles on my scalp just thinking about it.
It was painful, but not excruciating, and I remember the outbreaks lasted like about 6 weeks. The first thing I was told was that if was on your face to get to the doctor right away, so I'm glad you went. I haven't had an outbreak since, but thinking about it now i think I will definitely get that vaccine.
I hope you are better soon!

I hope the anti-viral medicine kicks the shingles quickly for you. I also hope your appt today went well! My Mom is going through them right now too. She is 64, and says they are miserable. My daughter had them when she was about 18 months old. She had the rash, in a perfect line from breast bone around her torso to her spine. Thank goodness, she never had the nerve pain. She's also had measles. She's our medical freak. Every doctor, and the CDC have always recommended to continue to vaccinate, so we have, she's just had to have them 1 at a time in case of reactions.

I've been thinking of you, Elaine. Hope you're not in pain and on the mend. It think it may be a good sign that my auto correct keeps trying to change your name to "ecstatic" on my phone.
