I kid you not. I am sitting in the ER as I type this. I started getting a rash on the right half of my face yesterday and thought it might be a contact reaction or staph infection from all the testing equipment on my face all day Friday. Husband got home this evening looked at my face and asked if it hurt. When I said, "unbelievably," he said "shingles!". I drove myself up to the Minute Clinic, because they say they treat shingles. The doc there took one look at my face and said, "this is considered a medical emergency since it is on your face and so close to your eye. You have to go to an ER." So, here I am at Walter Reed. Waiting for the doc. The put me in a room in the back ahead of 6 people who were here before me so that I don't spread chicken pox around. Just when I don't think I can get any more pathetic, something else comes along. Seriously. Pathetic.

Crap.
Mt mom had them on her neck and a couple on her face. One was really close to her eye. They said that could be a huge problem.

I'm so sorry I've never had shingles but I hear that they're incredibly painful. I'm glad that you went for treatment right away.

Sorry to hear this I hope they can give you something that will take away the pain. One of my coworkers had them two years ago on her back. She said it was really painful. She was out of work for a month. I hope yours go away faster than that.

Oh I am sorry. The one time I had shingles it was on my face. I was in college, the dr said it was incredibly rare to get it on your face. I had it on both side but with a weird line down my face. It was during finals so I had to go to take my exams.
I hid at home all over Christmas break.
I hope you get some relief.

The Shingles vaccine is the only vaccine that I've had since childhood. I insisted that my husband get it also. I've known three people who got shingles and I don't ever want to experience that. So sorry you have to deal with it..and on your face, yikes!

I had it around my left eye a few years ago. Went up onto my scalp, following the line of the nerves there. Make sure you see an ophthalmologist or other eye specialist. It can be very damaging to the eye.
I still get a tingling/twitch in the nerves around my eye every so often, and the scarring to the skin around my eye has not gone away.
Good luck with yours.

OH my, this is totally frustrating for you and most painful. I have heard that if it is caught in time there is a shot that can clear it up much faster than if you wait. Here's hoping that you have got in to see the doctor in time for that shot.

There is a shingles shot available for anyone over 60. I scheduled my shot for the day after I turned 60 so insurance would cover it. Feel better.

Hope you get relief soon.

I thought I had shingles two years ago. Mine actually ended up being a staph infection in and under my eye. I was so tired. Sending you hugs and yes, it does end. I just hope you get medicine to get you through the pain.

I had it on my face (technically my forehead and scalp) and in my eye. It was not fun. I'm sorry you're going through this… Please go see an eye doctor and make sure that you follow all of his instructions! I had to go to the eye doctor once a week for a couple of months. Good news – I don't have any long-lasting effects like some people get with shingles.

The are calling in an ophthalmologist right now and won't release me until he examines me and gives his approval. It has gone up to my hairline and is spreading along that one nerve towards the back of my scalp. The irony being that I was being examined by several ophthalmologists for 8 hours on Friday before this started. I am going for a Guinness Record of hours spent in one week with eye doctors.
