We usually turn the a/c on when my husband gets too warm. Then it's on 24/7. It runs usually until November, if I get too chilled, I use an electric throw.

When I'm hot, the a/c goes on. When I'm cold, the heat goes on. This is us too.

New Hampshire here. We maybe need the AC turned on for about 2 weeks in summer. For the most part, it may heat up during the day, bit at night it will typically get down into the 50s or 60s, and we just open windows, throw in a window fan for movement, turn on ceiling fans, and we are good. Right now, it is 69 degrees, and a little breeze. No need for AC today. It did get up to 80 today too.

I live in VA. When I'm hot, I turn on the a/c, when I'm cold, I turn on the heat.

Southern Hemisphere here, so we are currently in winter. I always try to wait as long as possible before turning on the ducted heating. I think I got to the end of May this year. I refuse to put the heating on in April (even though it can get a bit cool) because we are usually still going to the beach at Easter in April.
I have no issues putting the AC on as soon as I need to. It means summer is on the way and that's a VERY GOOD THING!

When it gets hot, we turn on the AC. That's what it's for. I couldn't live with rules like waiting for a certain date.

Lumo - I know. Nate turned 11 a couple of months ago and the girls will be 10 in a few months. CRAZY how quickly time flies. I miss them being little...but I do love how they're really growing into their own skin. <3

The AC is on in the bedrooms almost nonstop now until September. My husband wanted to wait longer to turn them on. The rest of us convinced him to do it.

I live in Minnesota so it is the heat, but my sister refuses to turn it on until a certain date out of stubbornness! Has nothing to do with saving money.

We actually haven't had to use ours yet! We had one or two really hot nights but we survived. DH is very happy about the electric bill.

I am waiting to use it until we get it. AC isn't common in western WA. There's about one week a year that I am dying though!
Side note: thank goodness you made it over here, Sharla! I would miss your threads!

We just moved to NY last summer and don't have AC in our rental house. There have been a few days I really wished we had AC but over all it hasn't been too bad. Around here not many homes have AC. We used to live in Iowa and not having it wasn't an option.

Another in Texas. The certain day I wait for is the day the house is warm enough to need it.

Nope. I'm currently in Florida, and our AC is ON. Of course, we keep it on, just set to low 80s, even when we're not here. At home in Illinois, I've run AC and heat in the same day, and there is no set date when the furnace or AC gets turned on. Our only HVAC issue is where to set the thermostat - I like to keep the house warmer in summer than DH does. If it was up to him, the thermostat would be at 70; I'm fine with it in the high 70s.

Our A/C runs 12/12 months a year in Florida. It's been 100 degrees during the day and mid 80's at night everyday this week. I keep it at 72 when we are home with ceiling fans going too. It gets bumped up to 75-76 when I'm at work/school. We don't do sweating indoors if we can avoid it!

I've been running mine. I've had some shoulder/neck pain and decided if I was going to suffer through that, I'd at least be cool while I was doing it.

No - if I'm hot it goes on! It's actually been off and on since April. The weather here in Southern California is just to crazy...65 one day and 95 the next.

No, DH has health issues and getting too hot is not good for him. We try to keep it comfortable year-round.

For me it is a keep up with "The Jonses" thing. I try to outlast the neighbors, but I usually succumb when the indoor temperature reaches 79 degrees. The funny thing is that I was talking to next door neighbor and she was telling me she does the same thing with the neighbor on her other side. We must be a very strange street.

It has to be really bad for me to turn on the air. Like over 100 degrees for at least 2 days in a row, with no end in sight. So no, I don't wait for a specific date, but I do wait for a specific condition.

I live in Hawaii so ours is on 24/7 year round. We live on the Leeward side of the island which doesn't get much rain and very seldom do we get trade winds so it is hot here all the time! Our bill is huge but I can't stand being hot so I pay the 500-700$ a month.

We don't usually turn it on till April. This year it got hot fast even for us. It went on the end of March.

Nope. I'm in SC, where it's HOT and HUMID! So whether it starts getting hot in early in March or late May, AC goes on regardless of date.

When I'm hot, the a/c goes on. When I'm cold, the heat goes on. This. The date on the calendar has no impact. And when the seasons change, I've run both on the same day on occasion. (Heat to warm it up a few degrees in the am, and then AC in late afternoon to cool it down).

If so, why? Just to save money? A tradition? A spouse who insists? (this is the situation of a friend of mine) I don't have rules on when heat/ac can be used. If it's hot, the cool air gets turned on. If it's cold, the heat comes on. Doesn't matter the month. I have a friend that won't use a/c unless it's pushing 80 degrees in her house. I literally would die. She cools it down when I'm there.

No a/c here. The big debate here is when to turn the heating on and when to turn it off. Same here. "AC" is just a word in the dictionary.
