No.
I briefly considered it when I moved out on my own but couldn't shake the feeling that I would wind up with it being used against me. In general I'm very uncomfortable around guns or being in homes where I know guns are present.

Somewhere along the line I decided that for my 50th birthday I was going to do one thing a month as a gift to myself.
I decided that one of the things I am going to do as my birthday year is that I am going to march myself down to a shooting range and learn my way around a handgun. My thoughts are that I can't argue for or against anything that I don't have a lot of first hand knowledge about and guns fall into that category. So I am going to learn and experience firing a gun and then decide how I feel about it.

No we will sometimes go to a shooting range and rent a handgun for target shooting but we don't own a gun of our own we don't feel it is the right form of self defense for us or our home.

I personally do not and do not want them around. DH has hunting rifles and a handgun he bought for protection after he was robbed while living in an urban locale. He has them stashed somewhere in the basement, and I don't know where.

Several in my house. I carry concealed. My DD shoots in competitions and has since she was 9. She has four of her own guns. One was custom painted and has her name on the stock.

Yes...we own two handguns, a rifle and a shot gun. Only is loaded in the house with me right now and it is in my nightstand drawer. My husband is traveling for 3 months at a time and as long as I am home alone that gun will be readily available to me.

Yes. And the only reason is because I live near grizzly bear country. I don't want to be scared to hike and enjoy this amazing outdoor spaces here. I trust a gun far more than bear spray. Guns are in the culture around here; we have open carry. I grew up here and doesn't faze me a bit.

Does it count if you do not have ammunition?

We have several. They are locked in the gun safe and our children do not know the code. I have two pistols and a rifle that are specifically mine.

My husband has a couple of weapons locked up in our gun safe. I don't know how to use them and I am not keen on learning.

No, never had and never will. I don't need to hunt to feed myself the shops do fine for me. Nor do I live in some wild, untamed location that has a kill or be killed policy with the local wildlife.

No. I live in a place where I feel I have nothing to fear from other people or the local wildlife. I would not be able to shoot another human being anyway, I don't for one second believe it would be as easy as some people like to make out.

No, never have and never will. I don't hunt or shoot as a sporting hobby and I'm not a farmer who might need a shotgun for the protection of my animals from other animal predators so i have no need for one. I'm fortunate to live in a pretty safe country that I don't need to go to that level of personal protection.

Morning, Thank you all for the responses, it's interesting to read the reasons. Thank you all for being nice when responding, I think that if we can talk about it in a civil manner we can learn. Everyone enjoy your day.

Are you planning on experiencing being shot as well? Dh plays airsoft so we have toy guns, but like the other British peas it's not something that really features in life here, thankfully.

I live in a large metropolitan area so no guns as hunting is kind of frowned upon and that's the only reason I see for owning a gun.

I suppose the answer is that my logic really only has to make sense to me. I see it like this: I can't react out of fear of the unknown. If I am afraid of a thing, learning more about it, trying it, seeing what it is all about will help me lessen the fear and come at an argument from a position of the known rather than the unknown. I can know in theory, but not in practice. And it is silly to extend that out to being shot as well. Kind of like asking if since I am afraid of heights and decide that I want to confront that fear by jumping out of airplane and asking if I am planning to jump without a parachute too.

I have lots of experience with guns. I hunted as a kid, I earned my crossed rifle as a teen. I have fired automatic and semi automatic etc. But as for my own home. None here. I moved to the southern States as a conservation Christian but since I moved here from Canada my view on guns seems different then my fellow church goers.

Why of course? Because you can? Because you hunt? Because? Just out of curiosity obviously.

Yes. Both Dh and Ds hunt. We live in the country. I am not comfortable using a gun, and do not hunt, but that is only because I tend to be a bit uneasy about my own skill level. I have no issues with Dh and Ds hunting. Dh as also has a CC license. The guns in my household are stored properly and I am very confident of my guys' ability to use them safely.
