No more tears, my ass. I have never heard of tape for straight bangs. How did it not rip hair out of your head when you took it off? Or was it not sticky tape? They made tape just for your hair, but you could use scotch tape in a pinch. You just put it on the very edge of your bangs so you had the minimal amount of hair on the tape. I think it mostly worked.

When I was little, my mom would tie up my hair in flannel rags to make adorable curls. I was all over YouTube one day looking at hair things and I was surprised at the number of young girls showing how to use strips of cloth or even paper to make curls. You know how it goes ... what is old becomes new.

No need for them with me, my hair was a mass of corkscrews. My mother, on the other hand, wore them every night, and slept practically bolt upright.

Yes, mom used the brush curlers for when we sat under the potable dryer, and used sponge rollers to wear at night. My sister and I had (have) stick-straight hair and this was the only way to get decent curl back then. That, plus an entire tub of Dippity-Do! ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/TKS2q_7siLiFtq0xPQvx.jpg)

I remember playing with my mom's Dippity Doo. I submerged a bobby pin in the tub of it once, and during the following weeks, I would check its gradual rusting process.

Yes,yes,I remember it all. My mom could not accept my straight thick hair..I remember putting toilet paper under those sticky ones to try to alleviate the pain when sleeping.

Oh yes - they poked and picked like mad when trying to sleep! What about bobby pins - my mom used to put hair in bobby pins or pin wheels to make tight little curls, they were pokey too, but not as bad as the brush rollers. It took a lot longer for the pin wheels though, it felt like I had to sit for hours while she did that!

No, my mother never made me wear them - I did it voluntarily. Then I graduated to juice cans. Oh, and I ironed my hair too. By iron I mean the type you iron your clothes with. I also used tape on my bangs. Aw, the memories. And yes, I do know what Dippity Do is. darn, you must be my sister running around with a different name. Never had hair long enough for the juice cans, but plenty of friends did. My hair is very straight, so I didn't need to iron it. But I have used the brush rollers (a killer at night), spoolies, foam rollers, pin curls, tape on my hair.......it goes on and on..... I still have some brush rollers in the cabinet (I think), but know for sure some hot rollers are in there. I currently sometimes use a curling iron.

I meticulously put masking tape around them just in case they left rust in my hair. Then I would pin each can to the cans around it. And I just purchased a type of brush curler for my hair now. I wish I had found the brush kind though. On mine, the mesh covering is super tight and I can't get a stick pin into it. I have to use a bobby pin and pin them to the scalp. I had one of those bouffant curler covers too. I liked them because all the bobby pins that would fall out would get caught in this and stick up inside the curler cover instead of being all over my bed.

No, but I wore my share of foam curlers and pin curls to bed. We used to take them out in the parking lot at church so that the curl would last through Mass...my hair was THAT straight and body-free!

Yes. And I loved how my hair looked. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg) It was when I was little, so the bristles didn't seem to bother me. They would now for sure.

Anybody else pile mayonnaise in your hair, slather on the coco butter and lay out in the backyard for hours? We would alternate between mayo one week and Sun-in the next. I can still smell the coco butter bars.

No, she didn't make me I chose that torture myself during my high school years. Thank heavens hot rollers came out not long after I graduated.
My my mom got her hair done every Thursday and always wrapped it in toilet tissue, used the pink tape and slept on the satin pillow.

We had those and both my mom and I used them, but we preferred these little beauties: ![](https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTGTPY1sosdaMgkH45PNHsVrcNE1-nKr_DTY8CGLej3wWwbAaRx) They were made of nice, hard plastic and they left dents in our heads.

I wore those!! But we would take the brushes out to make them easier to sleep on! Eventually we started using orange juice cans.
ETA: When I was a freshman at LSU I lived in an un-air-conditioned dorm. Imagine August. We would go to sleep under out bouffant hair dryer, turn it off after an hour and wake up the next day with it still damp.

I remember those curlers but don't want to remember using them! I also had pink round things, the top would snap down after you wound your hair in the middle. Can't remember what they were called, but there were no bigger than an inch or so... They looked like these... ![](http://img.alibaba.com/wsphoto/v0/310716780/Wholesale-2-sets-lots-DIY-10-JAPAN-Design-Soft-Hair-Care-Rollers-Curlers-PECO-ROLL.jpg)

I think my mom had some, but my sister and I had to endure getting the pink foam curlers put in every Saturday night before bed. My hair was very fine and straight. We must have gone through gallons of Johnson's detangler spray. No more tears, my ass. I have never heard of tape for straight bangs. How did it not rip hair out of your head when you took it off? Or was it not sticky tape? It didn't hurt - much. I just used Scotch tape and in a pinch I would "borrow" masking tape from my dad's workshop.

I had them all! Those pink picks that held the brush rollers in were awful. I can almost feel the pain now. When we were very young my mom would tear paper grocery bags into strips and roll our hair using them. In the morning we had beautiful long spiral curls that all the ladies oohed and aahed over.

Oh my. I slept in those rollers every night for years and years, all through high school and then for many years after. I would roll my hair then tie a soft flannel scarf around the whole affair to keep everything in place while I slept. Don't know how I did it but I must have just gotten used to the pain! For me it wasn't to add curls but to control my naturally curly, wavy hair. I had frizzy sort of hair. Of course the style was long and straight. I even had mine straightened at the salon after I got my first job. That's a cute look when it starts to grow out.

On a side note, my mom would get her hair done at the beauty shop every Friday afternoon. Friday and Saturday nights, she would sleep on this little pink satin neck pillow thing so as not to mess up her 'do. I remember wondering if I would do that when I was "big". The answer: NO. LOL! OMG, this was my mom. She would sleep with this silky bonnet. When my sister and I were adults we would tease my mom and dad on Thursday night that *tonight's the night* because that was the night we figured she would let him into her bed since she would get her hair done the next day. We were BAD!
