I'm so sorry to hear what you have been through, and are still going through. I totally understand your anger. I'm truly shocked by the father's letter and by the judge's leniency! It makes my blood boil!

Of course they'd appeal. The special douche bag snowflake can't have a criminal record! I have no doubt they are hoping for a chance at pleading for lesser charges that will allow him to become a member of USA Swimming. If the prosecutor agrees he/she might convince me to reinstate public flogging. I sincerely hope USA Swimming would not reinstate his membership if that happens.

TBH I don't know that they'll have a choice if he's convicted on lesser charges that don't include sexual misconduct. The code states that they can expel or deny membership for:

What they really want is for the charges to be dropped down to where he doesn't have to register as a sex offender.
OP, thank you for your words. It is never easy to stand up and say that you have been hurt, so thank you for your bravery.
This whole thing makes me so angry. Especially his refusal to be honest about what happened. That if he hadn't have been drunk that this never would have happened. No. If he hadn't have been drunk, he would have raped her with his penis as well as his fingers, and he probably would have gotten away, as he would have been running sober. Drinking does not make you a rapist, and excusing this type of behavior because you drank too much is insane.

At this point, thanks to social media, and the hashtags on this, if anyone googled him for a job in the future, today's controversy will show.

I am so sorry. This whole case is a travesty. I hope the judge is not re-elected to his seat. One wonders, if the defendant was a young black man from a junior college or no college at all, if the sentence would have been much harsher. I don't wonder. Or anyone in a less than stellar socio-economic position for that matter.

3jays, I can't just read and run, but I also don't feel like I can say anything that hasn't already been said, but here goes.
Your OP was so powerful, and it had me in tears for you, as well as tears of rage. I think sending that to the judge would be a very powerful statement. I am in awe of your strength and courage, as well as the young lady in the Stanford story.
Seeing how this case (and so many others) has been handled is very discouraging. We should have progressed further as a society. Hopefully, we will.
There are no words for people like Brock Turner, his father, and the judge who gives them favorable treatment. It's maddening and it's depressing.
At least there are still some people like the Swedes in this world.

I'll make a wager that his father is already in the works to have his son's name legally changed. Those who have access to his social security # might be able to make the connection, but he might be able to move about in life, college, work, etc. with a new name.

They did the same thing with Trayvan Martin. It's ridiculous to use photos that make criminals look like choirboys.
OP, I'm so sorry for what you've been through and how this incident causes many of those emotions to well back up.
I wonder if the asshole father would be singing the same tune if someone beat the shit out his son for 20 minutes.

I just read the letter that she wrote. I don't know what to say.
I don't know how a judge could let him off so easy.
How could the charges be lessened now? He has already been found guilty in a court of law.

For him & father to make the inkling that there was "sexual promiscuity" on her part and says he's only guilty of drinking. Grrrrr! My hope is that his father also suffers from this based on his letter--that his coworker's, colleagues and friends look at him like he's s piece of shit that he is.

OP, I am so very sorry that you had to experience sexual assault. Your story breaks my heart. Please get help so you can put this horrible incident behind you. By not doing so you are surrendering your power to your assailant.
20 minutes is enough time to show what kind of a person one is. This man attacked an unconscious woman and violated her. It wasn't about love or passion. It was about dominance and trying to prove himself.
Prove himself he did. He proved that he is a despicable excuse for a human being.

I wonder if the asshole father would be singing the same tune if someone beat the shit out his son for 20 minutes. Well, Trayvon Martin was a victim, not a suspect. I don't recall anyone taking a mugshot of a corpse to use as a photo of the victim in other cases. And I don't care what GZ claimed as far as self-defense, in that particular case there was no evidence that TM was doing anything other than lawfully walking home in his father's neighborhood until GZ decided to play vigilante and confronted him. Not exactly mugshot worthy if you ask me. TM may have had issues, but at the time of his death, he was a victim. However, most of the time, when someone is accused of a crime and arrested, the mugshot gets posted, not there sports promo photo. Did we see OJ's Heisman photo or his mugshot?

I think the original post is raw and real, and very powerful. I think sending a version of that to the judge would be a great idea. And if you are willing to do it, sending it as a letter to the editor of the newspapers in the judge's district would be very powerful.

There is a change.org petition asking for this judge's removal: PetitionThanks for this link, I also signed it. I didn't see it actually say anywhere, is the petition just to get attention, or is there actually going to be some kind of action after 25,000 signatures? 3jaysanc- I am so sorry for what happened to you. My heart breaks for the girl you were, the girl who was destroyed that day, and is amazed at the strong woman you became. Take care of yourself, you deserve it!

I am so very sorry, OP. My heart hurts for all victims of sexual violence. And I want to agree with others, what you wrote here is very powerful.
I read the victims letter over the weekend, only read highlights of the Dads, just can't stomach it.
Also agree he is appealing to attempt to get off the sex offender registry.

The crappy thing is that there are 3 other USA Swimming registered swimmers that have the name Brock Turner. And probably other Brock Turners out there in the world. Whenever their name is googled, they will probably be mistaken for this animal. Hadn't thought about that until I looked this guy up on the USA Swimming site.

Since when exactly was Brock Turner "famous and successful"? He's a freshman college swimmer whose not been on the Olympic team (yet that I know of, right?)! Never heard of him before this judgment. It's the mentality of those on that Facebook group papercrafteradvocate that sicken me. It's done at all the parties, so we shouldn't care? Please. He got caught. He deserves any and all consequences. It's not like there weren't witnesses to this..... this isn't some conspiracy... And I do think that HS/College/Pro athletes get bailed out and given more "privilege" in criminal cases regardless of socioeconomic status and that is PLAIN WRONG!
