They made an announcement on their Facebook page. I don't know how to link (I'm on my phone).

Ohhh, exciting! So then we might perhaps see some new lines in about 2019? Nooo, jokes aside, it's so nice to know they are working on something and that they refuse to give up. Looking forward to new OA collections in the future. Or maybe they will release a 2017 planner? I would definitely buy it, even if it's released in 2019...

I wonder if they are moving to overseas production since they clearly haven't had a ton of success with current production (unless, of course, it's been a financing and/or in house delay).
The thing is...how many companies have taken a break only to never re-open? My guess would be a lot. Not just in the scrappy world.

Hmm, I guess time will tell. They've never been very good at actually releasing things

I don't believe them.
They could not manage what little they put out, how are they going to manage a comeback? More of the same?

I am glad to hear they are going to at least try to remain in the game. I hope they don't "freshen up" their look too much and loose sight of who they are and their style.
I love OA so much that I do ridiculous things to obtain vintage OA lines I don't have...I wish they would just re-release their older lines. My latest aquisitions...Woodland Park 8x8 paper "pad" (really a stack since the papers are not connected) and most of Sidewalks...I can't be the only one this obsessed.
What are you hoping for with this announcement? Do you want they to keep true to their style? Change it up a bit? What products do you think they should drop or add? What themes would you like to see?
I would love to see them continue their pillow puffs, label stickers, mini markets and make more Christmas lines. I would like to see another boy line along the lines of Rocket Age. I would also LOVE to see a Valentine/love line from OA I don't think they have ever done one.

Keep doing what they do! They can drop the expensive embellies (over $5 I don't buy). I just got a bunch of mini markets, Sticky Keys and labels as well as some older paper in the A Walk Down Memory Lane going out of business sale.

Nooooooooo! I love OA and dnt want to take a break. I want then to rerelease their old lines so I can buy lots and lots. Please OA, if you need some cash I promise to buy all sorts of Rocket Age and Night Light. Like an obscene amount. I would also buy one of everything you produced before cherry hill!

Taking a break? What have they been doing for the last six months? I will be happy if they come back but I won't count on it. They sold their stock at 80% off and their office furniture in a virtual garage sale? That doesn't have the ring of a company that's coming back.

I believe the whole "coming back" language is to make themselves feel better. It's a denial strategy. They are a mess of a company organization wise -- I think I'll just say good-bye and keep trying to unearth old Basic Grey materials.

So sad. I don't believe there will be a comeback. Think of all the companies that have gone out of business the last few years that were actually well run.

I'm another who thinks this is the end of OA as a scrapping company. If they do anything else, I'd say it'll be quilt/fabric related like what Basic Grey is doing now. For those that miss OA, please go look at the newer lines by Carta Bella. They have a former OA designer on their team now and the stuff he's doing is suuuuuuper cute. GREAT JOB, CARTA BELLA!!! Carta Bella "Autumn" (coming soon) www.cartabellapaper.com/collections_autumn.htmlAnd "The Great Outdoors" (available now) www.cartabellapaper.com/collections_great_outdoors.htmlThese two remind me the most of OA. And Carta Bella is a reputable company that actually releases their stuff when they say they will and doesn't screw over the LSSs The paper quality is marvelous too!

I'm not a vintage OA fan (with a few exceptions). However, I love the look of Autumn. When people were suggesting looking at the great outdoors, I was like, 'ugh, that's hideous' but autumn is beautiful! So, looks like it's still going on par with how I have felt about most things OA (love some, hate some, many are 'meh').

Yup, that's how I felt about a lot of OA too scrapaddict702! I actually do like the outdoors line bc we spend time at a lake every summer. It's hard to find a line that has good lake/outdoors colors for the photos. I'm getting some of the non-scout/camping papers for all those photos I have piled up. I especially like the cut apart card that says "lake life" on it.

Isn't a 'break' their standard mode of in-operation? For a company who makes products so many people love, they have managed to find ways to constantly be delaying launches and just plain not selling to some companies. They told me at Archiver's once - obviously a few years ago - that OA only sold certain lines to certain customers. What kind of crazy business model is that? At the time Archiver's was a national audience for their products and they didn't want them to have as much to sell as they would put in their stores.
I would not be looking for them to come back.

I even like the Autumn line from EP too.
Thanks for sharing!

I don't think they are coming back as they sold their chairs and storage supplies. I always bought the December boxes so I have a ton of OA stash, a lot I haven't used. Sounds like I could sell some here :-)

Sad this happened but they are so disorganized. I don't believe they didn't sell lines to some people but couldn't fulfill orders so some got dropped. When I worked at a LSS years ago a new OA employee called he was hired to clean it up and refresh their customer service. He told us everything he was going to do to make it right. We never heard from him again and never got the order. Just how they operated I guess.

Anyone remember a few years back that they suddenly couldn't make it to CHA that year because everyone in their office had the flu? Anyone also put it together that they never made mention of another CHA ever after that?

They were one of my favorite companies - so sad to see them go and I also doubt they will be back.
Ideally, they would have sold out years ago. Their problems are the direct result of the owners, I'm sure, although I doubt they would ever admit that.
And if by some crazy miracle they come back eventually, I'd be pretty happy about that!

I wouldn't be surprised if they come back as a "lifestyle company" where they sell party supplies like how Basic Grey changed. At least, I think it was them.

Anyone also put it together that they never made mention of another CHA ever after that? I do remember this, and I sparked a discussion at 2Peas about just how expensive it to be a vendor at CHA: it is exorbitant! It was something insane like 20,000...how many pieces of patterned paper is that?!

They've been my favorite papers over the past few years too. Although I have a "stash", I'm always hesitant to use it up! I sure hope they can return and still bring us their unique papers. Maria

I emailed them within two hours of getting their email about the racks and furniture (I'm local) asking about a couple of the chairs, and no one ever bothered to call me or email me at all in response. At least if they were in fact all sold at that point, why not let the people asking know that?
