Does anyone remember the jello that separated itself into three layers? I loved that! I used to make that as a fancy dessert when I first got married in 1969. My husband who couldn't cook was so impressed with that three layer Jello and I let him think that I had special cooking skills. Then it just went away.

I saw it back in the store sometime in the last decade or so. No! You really have seen it in recent years? I'd love to find that again just to surprise the Hubs. Jello 123! That's what it was. I can see that I need to go Google.

That was one of my favorite fancy desserts as a newlywed, too! It did inspire me to learn how to make mousse, just like Jello cheesecake was the first step to real cheesecake.

I just Googled Jello 123 and they discontinued it in 1996. But found a recipe to replicate it.
Jello 123 Ingredients
3/4 cup boiling water 1 package (4-serving size) Jell-o brand gelatin -- any flavor 1/2 cup cold water ice cubes 3/4 cup Cool Whip non-dairy whipped topping -- thawed How to make it
Pour boiling water into blender. Add gelatin. Cover and blend at low speed until gelatin is completely dissolved, about 30 seconds. Combine cold water and ice cubes to make 1-1/4 cups. Add to gelatin and stir until ice is partially melted. Then add whipped topping; blend at high speed for 30 seconds. Pour into dessert glasses. (Slowly!!) Chill about 30 minutes. Dessert layers as it chills. ( It really does!)

okay, who else still likes to push jello thru their teeth, like I used to do sometimes with the jello squares at school when I was a kid?? C'mon, fess up- I can't be the only one! can I? I do still like jello with fruit or a more complicated jello salad occasionally... NEVER with any vegetables, though- at least not any more, lol. Growing up in the Midwest, we used to have green jello with shaved carrots, or green jello with celery. Also green jello with diced pineapple... or strawberry jello with banana slices. My mom never deviated from those few combinations. I canNOT eat red jello with bananas any more-- the banana slices would always get way too soggy, and brown... ick! Most Midwestern church or community cookbooks had an entire section devoted to those sorts of dessert-type quote-unquote *salads*. I have a few of those cookbooks, passed down from my Grandma; they're really fun to look through. One of the combinations I do still like to make now and then- especially when it's hot outside-- is orange jello with mandarin orange slices in, served with a dollop of Cool Whip ( not real whipped cream, it must be Cool Whip) on top. But I've never used a jello mold-- I think I need to look for one at the thrift store! Mom used to make a really yummy frozen salad with mini marshmallows, diced pineapple, and I don't know what else, for Christmas (and of course it was always served in the same Pyrex dish) but I don't think it had jello in... I'll have to look and see if I still have the recipe for it somewhere. ETA: looking at that menu made me remember another 'salad' Mom used to make; probably related to Waldorf salad?? chopped green and red apples, chopped pecans, and grape halves, in a tangy-sweet dressing that included mayonnaise, sugar, and a little milk to thin it out?? I'm in the Midwest too. Loved strawberry jello with bananas as a kid, despite the short shelf life of the bananas. We had a big aluminum bowl that we always used as the jello bowl at my grandma's. We have pictures of me at 3 helping her make it with a kool-aid looking mustache from slurping it when it was still warm. I now have the bowl. <3

for me, jello with fruit always has to be made in the smallest Pyrex mixing bowl (the blue one), because that's the way it was when I grew up, lol! Mom used to make that jello poke cake for Christmas, too-- a two layer cake: one layer was green jello, and the other layer was red-- then frost with Cool Whip!! And I am definitely going to try that Jello 123 recipe sometime soon!!

After some of the "surprises" I found when googling pictures of jello molds, I can only imagine This thread really needs a warning about reading it when everyone else is sleeping. It's really hard to laugh out loud without making any noise.

A 'sand castle' of jello? You could probably do a lemon jello with yogurt or whatever else makes jello a creamy color and line the molds with graham cracker crumbs!!! A fabulous edible sandcastle creation!!! Cream cheese! BEST way EVER! to eat jello! I finally did it! I made creamsicle jello!

I don't know I was just thinking homemade creamsicle I think you'd be disappointed if you were expecting anything like actual creamsicle, but the "creamsicle" jello is soooo good.
