I love a beautiful salad, especially in the summer with strawberries and fruit and candied pecans. I love the dressings I have at restaurants...traditional balsamics, raspberry or other fruit vinaigrette...I have tried a number of bottled dressings, even the ones that are a bit more in the refrigerated section like Marie's. But none seem to really hit the mark. The balsamic are often runnier and the flavors are just not quite as good. Does anyone have either a favorite pre-made one to recommend or recipes for something from tried and true? I think it's time for me to start making my own, but suggestions for something tested sound better than just blindly hitting the internet. Also, if you have a favorite salad youd like to share, that would be appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

I know what you mean. Those lovely berry vinaigrettes are the finishing touch to a fancy salad. I can't make those, but I do adore Alton Brown's Honey Mustard vinaigrette. It's the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. It has three ingredients and whips up in a couple of minutes.
5 T honey 3 T Dijon mustard 2 T white wine vinegar
combine and mix until smooth

I like the strawberry poppyseed salad at panera this time of year and I think you can buy their bottled dressing at some grocery stores... and maybe at their restaurants? I don't know, I've never actually looked to buy them. Otherwise, Brianna's is a good brand. It has a picture of a peach on it for some reason I don't understand. LOL.
Apologies if you really only want balsamics, but since you mentioned the berries and pecans in your salad, I would eat that with a poppyseed dressing... (balsamic is good, too, I just don't have any leads on that).

I bought a really yummy champagne vinaigrette from the Nordstrom's Café. They serve it on one of their salads.
ETA...I did see an Panera salad dressing at the grocery store. It was in the fridge section with the Marie's dressings.

I love a good vinaigrette!! I had a salad that was prepackaged from Walmart of all places last week. It was basically mixed greens, blue cheese, candied pecans, chicken, craisins with a sweet onion vinaigrette. That dressing was wonderful. I promptly got on the computer and googled a recipe. Easy enough but I was at the store and saw a Ken's Sweet Onion vinaigrette and decided to try that. I haven't cracked it open yet. I am hoping it has the same flavor.
I don't really have a recipe for any of mine. I usually just pour in the vinegar and olive oil to my taste in a jar. I then add minced garlic, salt and pepper, oregano. Give it a shake. Done. I think the non-runnyness(sp, if even a word) comes from a dijon mustard and you whisk everything to keep it emulsified.

I think I need to peruse the vinegar section for some variety. I think all I have is apple cider vinegar and the plain white stuff.

I might need to go to one of our bigger ones for more options. And I love both poppy seed and all the fruity ones. Uno's has a blueberry one, and even the dressing for Wendy's fruity salad like that is pretty decent. I wonder how a strawberry vinaigrette would be...I see raspberry often, and that's great.

Plain white works fine. I prefer the white wine vinegar but there's barely a flavor difference.

The only thing with pre-made salads is I really like the dressing and often ask for a bit extra in a restaurant. Keep me posted on the Ken's! Your process sounds great. I wonder if the balsamics are non-runny because the balsamic has been cooked dowm...I think it will thicken and also intensify the flavor. I can see the mustard creating the emulsion. Just wondering about those without dijon... Thank you!

The one I think I've seen it at is a local Sentry subsidiary. BUT! Target apparently sells them. Go to the site and search for Panera Salad Dressing and there should be 7. It says in store only but if you pick one and click on it, you should be able to search on the right to see if it's at a store near you. Their fuji apple vinaigrette is good, too-- that's my favorite salad when they don't have the summer berry one. I didn't even know they bottled that one; I might have to find some for myself.

Generally the emulsion of oil and vinegar has a 3 to 1 ratio. 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. Usually, I make a simple 3 tbs olive oil and 1 tbs red wine vinegar, sherry vinegar, or balsamic. My revelation of salad dressing came from Deborah Madison's cookbook. If you use lemon or orange zest along with shallots it makes the flavor pop.
I make one sweet dressing where I use a neutral oil, cider vinegar, some chipotle in adobo sauce, and a little honey and lime.

A friend of mine took me into an oil and vinegar shop recently and introduced me to her new, simple but very tasty salad dressing. The store is called Olive the Above and has a huge variety of flavored oils and vinegars. She mixes mango infused olive oil with lime infused vinegar. It is a very fresh fruity taste that is lovely on a salad.

I think salad dressing is like pesto -- nothing store bought can even compare to homemade.
With salad dressing, the simpler the better.
1 part olive oil, 3 parts good wine vinegrette --that's it! Can add a squeeze of lemon juice, a dash of salt and any herbs you want but really the simpler the better.

I had the best salad dressing at a Nashville restaurant last week. It was a champagne orange dressing. I don't have the recipe but I'm sure there is something similar on Pinterest. (Thanks for the reminder to look!)

Citrus just wakes everything up. Yum!

I love it on a sandwich of ciabatta, chicken breast, tomatoes with Italian seasoning, Swiss and parmesan cheese, bakes in the oven open face then put together. Might be lunch tomorrow. I love food. 😊

I have a store bought dressing that I love, we call it the crack dressing at our house because we can not get enough of it. It comes in a green bottle with a cream colored label, Garlic Expressions Classic Vinagrette. I can eat a salad for lunch every day as long as we have this. My salads are boring: green leaf lettuce, spinach, carrots, cucumber, celery, red cabbage, radish, sliced almonds, fresh parm, 1/2 grilled chicken breast and my crack dressing. So good.

If you try it just remember to shake it really well and when it is almost gone be careful or you'll end up with cloves of garlic on your salad!

I like to make my own. I agree a simple vinaigrette is hard to beat. I make a garlic one: Equal parts good balsamic and olive oil Salt and fresh cracked pepper A little sugar 1 clove garlic for each 3 people Whisk and pour right before serving. My family cannot get enough of this
I use the White Modena vinegar from trader joes all the time. I love this so much. Sometimes we just drizzle a bit of the vinegar and oil directly on the salad on our plate, and add salt and pepper to taste.
