I'm utterly disgusted for sure now. Yes, it looks as if this officer was incompetent and poorly trained and scared. Not good, at all. If that is the case, HE should be removed from the job, but to start this thread stating that all police just WANT to go around shooting anyone they want is pretty disgusting too. Well, considering thads not the title of the thread.... But keep trying.

I read the thread title in a a sarcastic, exasperated tone. Which I do understand. This shooting makes no sense, but I found the thread title a bit offensive as well.

I'm serious. it seems some officers are choosing to use the skill of the bullet vs all the other non violent techniques they were taught. But it's also not what Gia twisted it to say, but I'm not going to engage with her because it's pointless. And I'm not going to change the title.

There are bad cops out there, yes, but for every bad cop, there are thousands upon thousands that will give their life for yours. L

Sarcastic was a poor word choice and if you don't want to change it you should not. I have the same reaction when something horrible happens. A knee jerk reaction of all or nothing. I see so much of this situation A happening in my life, all people who do this, own that, or in that profession, all of them must be --->> fill in the blank.

No, I don't believe the police are just shooting anyone they want. In our city, the police just used a tazer to subdue a suspect that wouldn't comply. This was also a call in which someone stated there was a gun involved. In this other case, it's obvious from the outcome that the officer is not trained for this job. However, if you want to believe that the police are just going around shooting willy-nilly anyone they want, then go ahead, continue to spread hate.

IMO, anyone watching that video should be as horrified at the shooting of that therapist as they are at the shooting of any police officer. In my mind, they are equally wrong. There is absolutely no defense for the officer's actions, in this case. Just as there is no defense for shooting an LEO. I disagree. Going only on the way the therapist quoted the officer, it seems as though this shooting was a quick lapse of judgement combined with poor training. When LEO have been killed recently, they have been hunted. To me intent means a whole bunch. I would hate being the therapist. He got a raw deal, no doubt. But I seriously doubt that he was shot because of his race or his profession. You realize that the therapist was one more BLACK man who was unjustifiably shot by the police?

Your post and thread title are histrionic. Each situation has to be evaluated on its own facts and the fact is that this was an incompetent police officer. That does not reflect on every other officer - or quite frankly on every other shooting involving an officer - from here to eternity.

Another teacher was recently arrested for doing exactly that and I'm disgusted education can't weed out the bad apples either. Go for it.

And I'm not going to comment anymore about the title of the thread. Sorry. Y'all can hash it out all you want, but I'm not going to derail discussion what happened to to these two individuals with discussion about what others think I meant by a title I already explained. Sorry.

I just wanted to point out, I am NOT ruling out the race of the therapist as one of the factors, but sadly that is one thing he has against him in *some* areas or by *some* officers.

I do not for one second believe that if that young man was with a ehite female she would've been shot. Not one second. Id be surprised if someone argues differently. I absolutely do believe race played a role. It may not have been the only role, but I firmly believe it played a role for sure. I agree. However, what I think people sometimes fail to see if that if I (and I am now talking only about my own opinion, not the opinion of Dani-Mani) am saying that I believe an event may have been racially motivated, I do NOT mean that the officer shot this man because he has an actual dislike or hatred towards people who are black. I am NOT saying that this officer goes out each day hoping to arrest or shoot black Americans. No, what I mean, is that (and I think this can actually be more dangerous), that this officer may believe that a black man is more likely to hurt him than any other citizen. And furthermore (and possibly worse), that this officer may not have even realized that he felt that way until he was in a situation that had been described to dispatchers as potentially dangerous and he was then faced with someone whom he had been led to believe may be armed and who happened to be black. But whether he shot due to fear or not, if he would have been less fearful had the men been white, then the shooting was still racially based. And if those type of fears are part of why we keep seeing black citizens shot and/or killed by officers, then we as a country need to say how and why are we letting racially based fears continue? And how do we make them stop? Save

Bringing race into a discussion when it isn't warranted fuels the volatile fires we have right now.

As a p.s., I also dislike the thread title. I am frustrated, angry, and exasperated by this particular story and many others like it, but I also absolutely know that there are countless officers out there doing a damn fine job in a very dangerous profession. And they have my utmost respect.
I can be pissed as hell when an officer does something wrong against a civilian just like I can be pissed as hell when a civilian does something wrong against an officer.

This does not make me feel any better. Has shitty aim and doesn't listen to the person he perceives to be in danger, who is clearly telling the officer he is *not* in danger. Get that idiot off the force. NOW. Jesus fucking Christ. That man admitted to trying to shoot an individual with autism. He fucking knew he had autism and yet he was going to shoot him anyway. I hope he is fired, and I hope the therapist and that mans family sue the ever livin shit out of him.

I did put it on my FB page because it hits close to home with me. Mostly though, I try to stay away from religious and political posts or something that could be deemed controversial. I think everyone tries to deal with tragedies in their own way. I prefer to search the hell out of the topic on google and internalize what's going on whether than engage with people I know IRL.

Given recent events those ARE reasonable questions to consider, rather than deny that race may very likely have played a part. Shutting down that part of the discussion makes things worse, imo.

I think brining up race when it probably isn't demeans those true cases of racism and makes people start to ignore the cries..

Nope they are not just shooting everyone. Shoot today, my husband and his trainee took down a domestic subject with their taser. Removed an agitated mental patient without shooting him. Plus serving 2 high risk warrants today along with answering several dispatch calls, an assault call and pulling over traffic violations. He didn't shoot one person all shift. No one in our county, city or beach departments shot anyone. That statement was insulting, but again all of those in LEO will go out tomorrow to protect and serve with honor. We do not condone when bad decision are made ...but heck stop lumping them all together.
