They are at my Michaels in Canada, and while tempting (I don't have a typewriter and am usually too lazy to do the computer/printer routine these days) I will save my $199 + tax for other new goodies!

This is why I never throw anything away!!!! I had a manual typewriter with a big wide cartridge on it until last year when I renovated my scraproom. Had never used the thing for scrapping, but it was in here. And. I. Got. Rid. Of. It. Now it's cool? Does this mean the big stereo in the basement that plays records and 8 track tapes will become a thing again??? Yes!!! I just saw something about 8tracks coming back. I can't remember exactly why, but I would hang onto it for a bit. Might be worth some money because they are rare. Record players have been coming back for a while now. We still have ours and my 20 and 19 year olds were listening to dh's 80's rock albums the other night. Very hipster! Lol! as for the typewriter, I have two manual ones. One I found in the office where I work when we relocated. I jumped like a little girl and begged to have it. Some coworkers looked at me like I had fallen on my head. Lol! Then last year, a coworker gave me a small one that comes in a suitcase. That's my favourite. It's easy to type on without having to use too much pressure. I dont think i think I would need a 12x12 carriage. Journaling is the last thing I do so I wouldn't be able to get those enamel dots through the typewriter.

Me, too. Although I am coming at this from the standpoint of someone who has a typewriter in the closet and I don't wax nostalgic about it. I think computer keyboards are far easier to type on, and if you choose typewriter font ... I don't think We R Memory Keepers' experience is worth the result. I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't make sense to purchase a typewriter to do what your computer can do. But I guess if you've never owned a typewriter & want to add it to your decor.... Even then, I would prefer the actual vintage model and if you look hard enough, you may find one that's cheaper than the WRMK model.

Papersilly, that first example you showed us has definitely made me change my mind about the typewriter. Thanks for passing that along!

Papersilly, that first example you showed us has definitely made me change my mind about the typewriter. Thanks for passing that along! It's a perfect example of why reproductions are never quite as good as the real thing. People who say those crooked letters and uneven lines are representative of old typewriters have never typed on a well made typewriter. I have over 15 typewriters that I have never pad anywhere near $199 for and they type much better than the WRMK ones.

vronn I'm in BC and saw it in my Michaels. $199 and no coupons allowed. I'm in Alberta and couldn't even find it on Michaels' website. I'll be keeping an eye out. Michael's website is the suckiest! I find it completely useless.

cupcakepeddler and others overseas, they are saying that they are looking for retailers to carry this in other countries, so it will probably show up, or maybe you can ask your fav retailers about stocking it. ETA gigi333

Nic Jones has a review up. NicoleJones911ETA: Watched again this morning. Makes me want it less. The samples upthread were already telling me no, but the video made me realize that it's just not worth the price and, especially, the space - for me.

See, I'd really like one. I haven't been able to find a used one that works well, and I don't know if I'd be able to find ribbon, even if I had one that worked. I don't think it's available in Canada, and with the exchange rate still pretty high, it's not feasible to order online.
It's available in Canada…….saw them in my Michaels store yesterday.

It's available in Canada…….saw them in my Michaels store yesterday. you can easily find ribbons on Ebay. that's where I get mine for my typewriters. the WRMK takes a 1/2" ribbon which 90% of typewriters take and the ribbons on Ebay are cheaper than what WRMK/Michaels is pricing theirs at. you don't even get as much ribbon on the WRMK spools. I know because I bought a couple and was shocked that only get about 1/3 of what I usually get on spools from Ebay.

Is it really the same price in Canada as in the US? That has to be a mistake...I would expect it to be at least $250-$300 since it's $200 in the states.
I want it, need it, love it. Just need a sale. Even 25% off would be tempting.

I'm hoping for at least half off...then I can put it on my Christmas list...not that I think it will be there by then. If not, I bet I can find it for about half off at the American Crafts Warehouse Sale sometime after the holidays (they usually close by early August and still haven't announced when they are going to close...they typically lose the space to a Halloween store and close until November, so I'm shocked they are still open since most places are already prepping for the pop up shops) since they do have most things after a while. The only thing I don't find there is ephemera and the best Thickers, those end up going to Tuesday Morning. I'm patient enough...it took me 2-3 years of casually searching before I purchased my typewriter and I only had it somewhere around 6 months. My issue with it is that random lines are started too far back or too far in from the rest of them and I'm not pressing the return lever any differently...there is really no way to know when it's going to decide to do it and of course, it usually happens near the last line of a long typed piece of journaling. Most of the time I don't cut into journaling strips, so I have to start over (perfectionist) and it ends up taking me a long time instead of saving me time, which is one of the reasons I wanted one (the computer process is similar, but it takes so long to get it right that it just isn't worth the work for me). I'm not sure if it can be fixed (and since it was only $30, I am unwilling to pay for it to be serviced) but if it can't and this WRMK one ends up affordable enough, I'll nab it...if not, I still casually search for more typewriters and I'm sure I'll find another for a good price eventually. What I really want to get is a script font one, but those are NEVER cheap and mostly show up on eBay (shipping is $$$$$ on top of it), so unless I become a thrift store or garage sale junkie, I'll probably end up paying close to $200 for one if I 'need' it bad enough, which is why the price point for this machine doesn't seem unreasonable (the nicest and prettiest vintage machines sell for $300-$800). The last two HS PL core kits were on sale the week they were released and not even a month later, they were on clearance. It's crazy the turnover at Michael's sometimes. And I know they were selling them...they were all over various groups. At first, I thought it was because of the defects (so many typos and even a graphics error on the back of one of the boxes...a card that belonged to the other kit was there so people thought they were shorted a design) but they were shipped to independents with the same defects, so yeah...it just ended up being a case of them not wanting to feature it long. This set up is on an end cap as was the HS stuff and those seem to last far shorter than the seasonal items in the center/drive aisle, so I wouldn't be shocked if it was gone or on clearance within 2 months...so I better not wait too long on a few of the pretty dual colored ribbons that I haven't seen on eBay.

I'm not going to buy it. I've got my dads college typewriter and my husbands too. I bought extra font wheels for DH's off eBay including a script one. Keep checking Craig's list, check with relatives and neighbors. Ask your Facebook friends- someone somewhere has one for you,

But... but... but... I can already print in ANY color I want--or combination of colors--using a free typewriter font in any size I want with a regular inkjet printer. I don't think it's really necessary to *actually* type on a 12x12 page to get the *effect* of printing on a 12x12 page. If I want to simulate the look of typing on 12x12, I would cut the paper in half (or to a width that will fit in a regular printer) set up my printing to land where I want it on the cut page (rotating as necessary), and cover up the seam on the reassembled page with embellishments, other patterned paper or cardstock, photos, etc. and no one's the wiser. While that would work sometimes, sadly for me, the few times I've wanted to do it (and wasn't able to) were on pages where the pattern prohibited that. One was a piece of sei from long ago and the other was one w/a huge ocean wave. On both, I wanted to have my journaling work around the design. Doesn't look like the typewriter is doing such a great job, so I guess I'm back to waiting for my printer to die, lol.

Let's see - the lines are wonky - it is $200 - and it's plastic - no thanks I know, right? I love how none of the online reviewers who gush over it mention that it's plastic. that would be another deal breaker for me. of all the typewriters I own, none are plastic. I tried owning one but I hated that hollow sound it made when you typed and how flimsy it felt when the metal elements moved against the plastic.

I can't believe for $200 it's plastic. If it had been a halfway decent product, I'd buy it.

Plastic, really? That must be why it's matte. It doesn't look like it's plastic in photos...it would be a dead giveaway if they finished it in gloss. That's a bummer. Might have to rethink buying it and focus on the accessories instead, then.

If you read the reviews/Q&A on Michael's website, one of their customers wants to know if it comes with other fonts! Haaaaaaaa- easy to see she never used a real typewriter.

I saw 2 at Michaels tonight with BFF. One pink one and one black one. They were really $200. For plastic! I just couldn't see paying that much for a typewriter.
It is very cute, though!

My Michaels has the pink and the black WRMK typewriters on clearance for 80% off. All the accessories on that endcap were also 80% off so if you use the ribbon it's a good way to stock up!
