I am sorry you were targeted. What a terrible and cowardly thing that note-writer did.

when you all use the word 'deplorable' it feels like you are saying 'see, Hilary was right...they are all deplorable" it was a "nasty" woman that my DH encountered...but using the term 'nasty' over and over - would make it seem okay that Trump said it and it's not in either case or you all are trying to be witty/funny gina It is an example of deplorable behavior, not this specific, but bad behavior in general is encourage by Trump and not by Hillary. I am so tired of hearing it is bad on both sides. What your DH experienced is also deplorable, and she should not have happened. but I have not heard of anyone on Hillary's side encouraging people to be violent. I think to say it bad on both sides is a such a stretch is laughable. The difference between Trump that Bitch t-shirts and Love Trumps Hate is oranges and apples. The only really bad anti trump shirts I have seen and only on the internet, have him with a Hitler mustache. Not in the same league at all. Exactly. It ISN'T bad on both sides. Trump is inciting racism & sexism & homophobia. He is a monster. Nobody should be voting for him, but if anyone is foolish - and I say that because even if you hate Hillary there ARE other options - enough to do so, it's not wise to admit it. You will get tagged with the deplorable brush by folks who don't know you well enough to know better. It's why I have to be careful to reveal I'm a Christian in some circles. The bad apples who say things like the Orlando shooter didn't kill enough people have ruined it for the rest of us. And in both cases, frankly, the non-deplorables still bear some responsibility for the situation, because they aren't doing enough to speak out against the behaviour. The folks who are only plugging their nose & voting for Trump - they need to send a strong, clear message that they will change their minds & stay home if Trump doesn't change his behaviour immediately. If you aren't willing to do that - if you won't hold the guy accountable by hitting him where it hurts, you're still part of the problem, even if you don't share his racist, sexist, homophobic views. It must be made clear to these folks that their points of view are NOT acceptable in a civilized society.

It's awful that someone thought it was acceptable to leave such a note, I really don't understand what filing a police report solves. No tires were slashed, no car keyed, no threat that the writer plans to stalk you. Is that note any different than a pissed off driver who left a note because a person parked too closely or wonky in a parking spot?

This stinks Elaine!!! Unfortunately, that is type of person Donald Trump appeals to. I'm glad to report I have been the bigger person and left all 4 of my neighbor's Trump signs alone!! Not that I wasn't tempted. I think what has happened to Elaine is horrible. There is no way to justify it as being right. None at all. But comments like this are not right either. There are lots of 'types of people DT appeals to'. And not all of them behave this way or think this is right. Thank you, I've stayed off political threads because of statements like the above. I'm sorry that someone took it upon THEMSELVES to write a horrid note. It was not deserved or condoned by any civilized person. Just because people don't agree with someone else's poltical view does not make them wrong or a bad person. I don't believe in Hillary, I voted for Trump knowing his previous mistakes. Just like others will vote for Hillary knowing hers. I don't think less of anyone that votes for Hillary.

There was actually no crime.... someone expressed an opinion in an unwelcome manner, but there was no threat.... this is kind of funny.... did they really think they were going to change the op's nind??!! No, I know there was no crime, I never suggested there was.......why are you pointing this out to me? Because so many peas were recommending that she call the police to report it.... what is to report? Sad that so many feel free to express their unsolicited opinions in such terms

It's just really unfortunate that you don't get the opportunity to tell this person to STFU. That's all I would want.
Right now my favorite line to sing from Hamilton is "Never gonna be president now." I'd probably sing that after I told them to STFU.

I'm sorry Elaine. I've been chased down the aisle of my local supermarket by a rabid Trump supporter who spewed these type of sentences at me. All these terrible things HRC had done, as if he had personal knowledge. As fast as I tried to get away from him, he kept following me. It was crazy!

Not that I wasn't tempted. For everyone that mistakenly believes that only Trump supporters count among the undesirables, my friend was wearing a Trump/Pence sticker on her blouse while she went to vote today and was verbally attacked by a Hillary support. Not only that, she attacked my friend's son and her 91 year old mother who was voting curbside. I can't blame Hillary or Donald for the poor behavior of Americans. Every election it gets worse. I think a lot of the problem is that the media and social media have given too many the impression that their opinion is the only one that matters and that when one disagrees with someone or something, they should voice their disagreement in whatever manner they wish. And...the more outrageous one acts, the better. I don't expect things to be any better the next election, either.SaveSaveI totally agree. Just look at the complete nastiness towards people who don't share our beliefs on this message board. Tolerance is only exhibited when someone agrees with us.

The problem with arguing it, though, is there are some Trump supporters who will apply the part to the whole, even when the PART-part is explicitly qualified. Sometimes I think - and I realize there are Trump supporters who might be incredulous when they read this - that one has to tiptoe around some Trump supporters for fear of giving offense. It results in a weird - and ironic - form of political correctness. (Ironic because political correctness is more often criticized by conservatives.)

This election season is just-crazy. Insane. Even my normally level headed husband has been poking people on Facebook and I'm about to hide all Internet capable devices because of it. He says he just can't help it, people are so stupid, blah blah blah but he refuses to see he is not helping a single thing and instead is being an asshat. And he is a Hillary supporter!
People done lost their damn minds.

Elaine - you need to notify the police. ginacivey - When you say your dh's shop, do you mean at your home? As in his personal workshop? Or do you mean his place of business? While it's certainly not ok to yell at someone, it's also not good practice to use your workplace to advertise your political leanings. Were I in her situation, I certainly wouldn't have blown up the way she did. Your dh would have lost me as a customer, however. Really? Over his political stance? I have many friends and family who have different beliefs than I do. We are not all going to believe the same things, ever. What is so hard to respect and have open minds? I have never considered myself "political" or even paid this much attention to the going ons of the election but this year is so entertaining, I just can't help it. What gets me about it all is how people insult the "other side" just for supporting them, not based on anything else. Terrible behavior that is not ok.

compared to what I'm thinking right now of Trump and some of his supporters. I live in a nice neighborhood- townhouses $375-$500K; single family homes $550-$2million. I took my niece and nephew who are visiting from Israel to pick up a couple of things from our local Giant grocery store this morning. It is a smaller store in a strip mall in the middle of the neighborhood 1.5 miles from my townhouse. Are you assuming "deplorables" only live in non nice neighborhoods?? Deplorable Trump supporters are everywhere. In fact, the richest people I know from the nicest homes (more than the $2mil in your neighborhood) I have ever been in are Trump supporters. Yes, the "basket" of people I know that support Trump include a rich farmer, a very rich lawyer (that lives in the richest county in MD), a dentist, a doctor, and many business owners. I also know poor and even unemployed people supporting him. As for me, I think he is horrible but am still trying to decide if he is more so than her.

If I were in downtown DC, I wouldn't have been so taken aback.

24 hours later, I am much calmer about it all. I was shaking angry when it happened and fairly emotional - with some distance, I am doing a much better job of putting it in perspective. Spending time with my family helped me refocus on what is positive in my life, rather than on the negative in the world.
I will say, that while I completely understand people not wanting to put political magnets on their cars, or signs in their yards (regardless of who you support), for fear of reprisal, it makes me sad that we have gotten to that point right now. My magnet isn't going anywhere.

I didn't read this as cycworker would boycott his business, but that it would be a better tactic for someone like the angry woman than spitting. I have friends with diverse beliefs, but I've also decided to spend my money elsewhere if I disagree with a company's policies. Usually it's larger corporations, but I've avoided local mom and pops if they've taken a strong stand against a local cause I support, or exhibited ugliness in the community. I don't think that's unusual.

You need to do elections like we do in Australia. Maximum 6 weeks to campaign, then compulsory voting on a Saturday, all around the country. Short, sharp and done. The last campaign went for 8 weeks and we were all mightily sick of it!

I was minding my own business in the freezer section. It's cause you buy frozen food. This never would have happened in the produce section. Clearly, you brought this on through your lifestyle choices. (I'm just stepping in for SanctiMommy as she is away at a sustainable food festival.)

Please. Before you go claiming that Hillary supporters are so tolerant and loving, go search out the video of the homeless black woman who was surrounded by a crowd angry liberals at DTs star on the walk of fame. She was repeatedly assaulted and knocked to the ground while dozens of mindless, angry liberals laughed, and videoed the whole scene. Her property was destroyed, she was berated and screamed at, and not one person stepped in to help the poor woman. That is the tolerance that real liberals promote...don't kid yourselves.
Trump does not "promote" racism sexism or homophobia. The lazy ass media drive that claim to their mindless liberal audience and you people suck it up like candy. I despise the man, and I am not committed to voting for him, but I know I could never ever vote for the democrats, and their brand of hatred, division, and complete intolerance.
Also, no iberal that cited for hrc better ever utter the words "injustice" or "unequality" ever again. She epitomizes injustice. If her name wasn't Clinton and she had an R after her name, she would be in prison and not running for POTUS.

@lynlam I'm not trying to be contrary but what exactly is a 'real liberal?'
I have some pretty liberal views (and a couple of pretty conservative ones too) but would like to think that any human being with an ounce of compassion, liberal, conservative or in between would have stepped in to help in some way. Laying the blame of criminal assholian behavior at the feet of a political leaning is obfuscating the real issue of criminal behavior and not politics.

I'm so sorry, Elaine. The note writer also misspelled traitor--that looks like an e to me. Sadly way too many people think *they* have the only right answers and really think that they're doing people a favour by lecturing them and feeling superior. People always feel superior over others for their choices in political parties, sports teams, religions, etc. But there does have to be some baseline of decency that doesn't get crossed no matter what. Sadly, I've discovered there are too many people in my life that had no problem descending way down past that point. I'm so sorry that your niece and nephew had to see that. I'm sorrier that they have to deal with the shit they do in Israel. I've always tried to be a "nice" person, but the older I get, the less I worry about being "nice". I think that telling the truth is more important. And sometimes the truth hurts. You don't have to be an asshole when telling the truth, but way too many women keep silent because they're afraid that they'll be called a bitch, etc. When I heard that the Hillsborough campaign office had been firebombed, I assumed that it was the Democratic office that had been attacked. Hillsborough is right outside of Durham and near Chapel Hill, and natives aren't happy at how "liberal" parts of the RDU have gotten. So I figured that some of the "good 'ol boys" dusted off their sheets and went off to "protest" again. I was shocked when I watched the video of bombed building and realized that it was the Republican headquarters. What lept out immediately was that was the emptiest campaign office I've ever seen. It's TINY to begin with. It should have been full of tables and papers, etc. That would have made a nasty mess like that one paper covered table against the wall. There should have been much more damage. I thought they'd moved stuff out, but then when I saw the damage on the paper covered table, I realized that if the office had been covered in tables like the one against the wall, the damage would be much greater. Little towns like that have voluntary fire departments, etc. and nobody is going to say, yeah, they firebombed their own building, but I wouldn't put it past them. Just add me to the bench of citizens shocked at how low people are willing to go for politics.
