I confess to a failure yesterday. I went to Michael's to pick up a package of white cardstock (totally allowed in my definition of freeze). But then I looked around. Mistake!!!! I found a new 12x12 pad of paper that will be perfect for older girl cards. This is an area in all my card making supplies where I am lacking and now I've got something that will work for this age group. And it was $6. That's my justification. I'll be making birthday cards just as soon as I'm done with Valentine's Day cards. Back to the freezer. You'd spend $6 on ONE birthday card at Hallmark. I'm pretty sure you just won at being frugal!! Way to go!

I went to AC Moore today and only walked out with the 8x8 page protectors I walked in for. And I used a coupon. Spent $1.50 total.
Turned a blind eye to all the marked down stuff, all the pretty new Valentine and St. Patrick's day stuff. Even walked away from pretty puffy hearts on the endcap.
Came home, added the page protectors to my DD (we did a lot of holiday stuff this year), and sorted the photos into the page protectors.

I had the silliest (but liberating) AHA moment today. I was daydreaming at work (oops) when it hit me: I know exactly how I'll keep my memories this year (I'm pretty much an exlusive PLer). The solution is so simple but so well tailored to my brain that I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out. Anyhoo, 6x8 after all. Monthly. One spread for the everyday stuff that I love looking back at (monthly selfie, playlist, books read, simple moments, something in my home/city). One spread for the less ordinary stuff (travels, special occasions, celebrations). I can't wait to start playing with my Paislee Press templates to start giving this format some shape and consistency. I do PL as well and found that I do it once a month. My kids are older and I don't have things every week to just fill a pocket. I do 12 x 12 but I can see once both boys are gone to college that I will move to 6x8. While I do want to remember the little things - I don't need to remember the same things, every single week. How many grocery store selfies do I need? Photos of my coffee cup? I am trying to be more intentional about what I decide to include . I don't have to include everything + the kitchen sink. Sometimes less is more.

Well, I thawed out on the weekend. I bought two sheets of lego paper and a sticker sheet for a layout I have planned. I also ordered a stamp set. I was sure I was okay (I had a Paypal credit). Then I went to check out. No credit. Of course I didn't cancel my order. I paid with my credit card. It turns out I hadn't accepted the PayPal credit yet. So now I have a credit
I'm back to the freezer, too.

How many grocery store selfies do I need? Photos of my coffee cup? I am trying to be more intentional about what I decide to include . I don't have to include everything + the kitchen sink. Sometimes less is more. Yes to more intentional memory-keeping! (did you see that Becky Higgins is now also jumping on the less-is-more bandwagon?) The three childless pocket page ladies who were on an episode of the How She Creates podcast also instinctively brought up that doing a DITL or WITL for them just ends up looking like the same day or week over and over again so they've stopped doing it. Same for me. Weekly PL stresses me out, even just a few weeks into the year. I can't keep up. Monthly is amazing. It's enough to fit in anything major. I calculated that for 6x8, I can have a max of 7 3x4 photo slots (with one monthly recap card) for a monthly spread which is more than enough. The editing process is actually fun. "What will matter when I look back next year? In five years? Ten?" There's only that many generic sunsets or blue sky pictures I can stomach before I sart rolling my eyes at myself. What I love about my new system is that I can skip the second spread for any given month where no extra pictures need to be kept. If there aren't special events or trips I want to keep several photos of (sometimes, a weekend away somewhere is just that and I'm happy to only keep a little note of it in my monthly recap card), I can just move right on to the next month. So. Liberating.

I got a little twitchy when I saw one of the daily deal sites today. But I didn't buy. Imagine strong arm emoji here.

Canceled my AE kits today. All I have left for kits is Kelly Purkey now. I've been going through my stash and purging and realizing how overwhelming it is to have too much of everything. No wonder I have a hard time getting started on any projects.

No wonder I have a hard time getting started on any projects. As I implied in the SC Refuguees thread, congratulations on making the jump (and realisation)! There are some very good articles out there about too much stuff holding you back and stumping your creativity. Excerpt from this article: The idea of being frozen has taken a literal sense in my life right now. A cold wave is currently taking over my side of Europe. Although I'm in a big city, our power just went out. Little moment of panic there as our heating system is electricity-powered. Thankfully, it came back on. We're already in the negative Celsius degrees. And I'm finding out that I'm truly not made for Scandinavian temperatures! Still didn't buy anything. Still curious as ever what my SO bought for my birthday from the scrappy store. Still somehow managing not to go hunt for the parcel just to hold it, weigh it in my arms and try to make a few wild guesses. This is such a tempting situation. Hoping all of you are doing well and nobody is too cold in the Northern Hemisphere right now.

Crazy to think that my part of Canada, which most think is the land of snow and ice, is above zero and heading towards a spring like 8*C for the weekend. Thanks for taking the subzero temps for us. I'm not missing them one bit but I would kill for some sunshine. Stay warm and consider this a good reason to stay inside, grab a bottle of red, and relax. And do NOT go looking for that package. The surprise will be worth it. SaveSave

The surprise will be worth it. Oh, you still our usual winter temperatures! Give them back, give them back, give them back! Our old Hausmannian building is so poorly insulated against the cold though. Bottles of red are definitely required. We're just chilling wearing two pairs of fuzzy socks, layered clothes and in foggy state of WTF-ness. We didn't make it past 5°C yesterday at the warmest point. That's usually the coldest moment of the day around this time of the year, at about 4:30 in the morning. We've turned into Winterfell. *dramatic voice increases* We'll never be warm again... I will not go looking for the parcel. I will not go looking for the parcel. *le sigh* I will not go looking for the parcel.

Hi ladies! Can I jump in and shiver with all of you? Because I am definitely frozen and have been all month so far. I picked up a few clearance items at Target right after Christmas, but since the new year I've been hanging out in the frigid no-spending zone. I do have $20 in gift cards to a scrap store online, but I'm saving that for when I can't take it anymore. My only "allowable" purchases right now would be solid cardstock (basic colors) or adhesives. DH & my kids did an excellent job of stuffing my stocking with adhesives, though, so I should be good there for quite some time. I use solid black cardstock in my genealogy work, though, so that will likely be the first "allowable" item I wind up needing. I can make do with whatever colors I have on hand for scrapping & card-making, but I only use black for the genealogy stuff.

Went to TM yesterday while waiting for my pizzas at Papa Johns. I looked at a few things and started to pick up some Ranger dye ink pads and cute Paisley Press 12x12 pads. Then I put it all back and took my two kids down to the toy aisle. I held strong against the scrappy supplies AND I didn't cave into the kids' incessant begging. Feeling soooo strong!

Well I kind of unfroze today. But it's not my fault! My department at work has gotten together a few times after work to do a crafty project. We call it a "team building" session. hahaha. Anyway, they asked to make a Valentine's day card. So I went to Mike's and bought a 6 x 6 VDay paper pad and red sparkly paper to make card kits. And for some reason there is a 3-pack of water brush pens waiting for me at the mailbox. I had a bunch of stuff in my cart and I was going to transfer the brushes to my wishlist before hitting the purchase button.

I caved with the pre-order of Echo Park's Magic and Wonder. I have their Magical Adventure line and this coordinates perfectly (plus I had a code for 20% off including shipping). I will say, though, that I held strong and only picked up a few things from the line. I had a bunch in my cart, as well as the Once Upon a Time - Prince line, Photoplay My Imagination, and Carta Bella Rocket Age. I took all that back out and will wait. So, I feel good about restraining myself. And, I used paypal credit from selling some stamps along with Christmas money. I still have Christmas money left, and I know I'll be using it to buy SS Say Cheese III when it comes out. Since it's ob preorder, I have some time to use up some stash before it gets here. That's the plan anyway!

Day 19 (+31 for December as I've not bought anything since late November) has come to an end over here. Still frozen. My boyfriend got home today, made us cappuccinos, took my 2016 PL album off the shelf and sat down. He spent almost half an hour flicking through the pages, reading the journaling, smiling. He was really taking his time, looking at all the details. It was so adorable and unexpected that I just kept my loud mouth shut and enjoyed the moment. I pretended to be busy with a file but, frankly, I was just flipping a page here and there to give him the impression I was not observing him. I totally was. Like a birdwatcher who just discovered a rare new colourful species. ETA: I think it's great to read that those who temporarily broke their freeze seem to all have done so with care, thinking their purchase through and finding a way not to go overboard. Being more intentional with our buying impulses is what is the desired outcome after the freeze after all... Double thumbs up!

I just counted and I've completed close to 100 pages in the last month! And I feel my mojo fading which is ok. Maybe by tax time all the new releases will be stocked and I can splurge! It's been a lot of fun using stuff that I really do love and was happy to get. I feel less guilty for all the shopping and it's been very therapeutic.

I agree - and I'm one who did buy 2 sheets of paper despite the freeze BUT I've already used them so they never actually made it into my stash

I'm still going strong with my freeze I have been stocking up on my recently discontinued adhesive, but think I'm done even doing that. And I have tomorrow off so if I can I really want to sit at my desk and do something creative. I want to do PL for my dog's album and he's already 2 and I haven't even started

I've been good, but working on a double page swap and I need 8 yards of white lace. The longest piece in my stash is 5 yards. And I'll need it to all match so this Sunday I'll have to go pick some up, but I won't be buying anything else at Joann's, just the lace.

I'm so proud of all of you! I thawed. I feel terrible. A could of weeks ago I got it in my head that I needed to hunt down an old Crate Paper collection. I couldn't sleep and before I knew it I was sitting at my computer and hunting it down. It was in my cart and purchased before I even remembered my freeze. Sigh...it was a good lesson though. I didn't realize how automatically I can shop. I definitely have to be more mindful! That said, I am way more excited about this old paper than a lot of the new releases, so perhaps I will manage to be good well into February!
