that really is the exact same cake.

Or how about that one of his first acts in the oval office was to change the curtains to GOLD? The man definitely has issues w/gold. When Obama left yesterday morning they were deep red. Now gold. Sure, it's his right to redecorate in keeping w/budgets and policies. But really, that was a DAY 1 job? In all fairness, the White House staff has five hours to get stuff changed over from one President to another on inauguration day. Five hours to get the former President's stuff out and the new President's stuff in and set up. That's not a Trump thing, it's how the White House does it for every President.

But they only change over what's asked of them. And gold curtain changeover was, apparently, important enough that it was on the Day 1 ask list. Instead of, "hey, here's some pictures and statuettes, and here is the desk I like..." etc. Nope, get those GOLD curtains up.

Here's a write-up of the original cake: www.eater.com/2013/1/22/6492171/behold-duff-goldmans-star-spangled-inaugural-cakeIt's designed for the 5 branches of the military, so it's not surprising it would have the common insignia of the branches - but not be EXACTLY the same coloring, sizing, etc. ps - full Wilde quote: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” ―Oscar Wilde.

Now, to be fair, did Trump ask for that cake or did they just hire someone and THAT person decided to copy a cake? I don't like the man but I can't pin this totally on him. How much say does the President actually have in the design and foods?
But really, in this day and age of the internet and social media, how can the maker of Trump's cake NOT know it's an exact copy of a previous cake?
I'm also curious as to what other cakes have looked like. Other than a few wedding cakes, presidential birthday cakes, and coverage of Duff making Obama's cake, I couldn't find any pictures of past inauguration cakes.

Saw a meme on Facebook, seems his wife's dress is a near copy of one worn by Jackie O during their time in the White House.

Also, I mean, also in fairness, gold isn't a new thing for the oval office, many presidents have used gold for those curtains including Clinton and Kennedy. I think as much as i am not a supporter of him (Trump), looking at the red curtains (from Obama), they were rather dark and I wasn't a fan of them (and I can see them wanting to change them straight away to be honest), the curtains have in the past been gold or blue historically and knowing he would be photographed (in that room) having the curtains changed was probably something that is actually on the list of first things that are changed because of those first photographs.

Yes, I read something yesterday that the Oval Office is one of the very first things that is done. He's been planning this for a while, I'm sure, so instructions would have been issued a while back and then implemented in those 5 hours. I totally love to hate the man, but I'll give him a pass on this. Unless, of course, it looks ugly.

I have seen it reported that for EVERY president, the oval office gets an inaugural DAY make over. It is quite amazing how a plan and team are assembled to go in and do this.
As far as the cake, WOW!! total copy cat of Duff's design, but did President Trump (I guess we need to get used to calling him that) actually have any say in it. I can not imagine him having time to pick things like cakes or flowers or place settings.

How about that Twitter cover pic that was lifted from Obama's Inauguration. I have to wonder if he has someone on staff punking him. Like a mole who is purposely doing these things to make him look stupid. Well-played, my little mole. He looks stupid.

He loathed everything about Obama for 8 years and now they have lifted their speech and their cake.?
He is wacky...wacky and unbelievable.
Maybe he didn't steal the idea for the cake..maybe it was Melania? Would fit with her plagiarizing the speech. Lol

I would have thought he was surrounding himself on people with the best ideas and yuge creativity.

Exactly...that's just strange, you'd think after all the bitching and about Obama, they'd want to "make it their own" and use all of their great ideas to put their own stamp on the inauguration...but what do they do instead? go to some length to copy exactly what was done before.
If they liked the cake so much they should have just said "that cake last time was excellent, let's get the same guy again" but they obviously didn't, someone must have had photos of it and then they hired someone and asked them to make an exact replica....which is just odd. A bit unprofessional of another baker to copy the same design by someone else. No doubt a quick Google search could have told you who made the cake.
It seems like a few small things, but in just a day, it leaves the clear impression that no-one there has any new and fresh ideas, they are simply going to copy what the last lot did and call it good. You'd think at least they'd put some energy into it and take some pride with what they are doing, but they instead they look like they are sloppy about checking facts/details or they just don't care.

Personally I don't care for the cake at all. It's a poor mix of Presidential and cheap New Year's Eve. I can't see why anyone would have wanted to copy it.

Credit was only given to Duff Goldman AFTER he posted the spilt picture showing his cake with the copy. BB posted after his tweet, on their Instagram that they were asked to copy it and that all proceeds were going to a charity. (I hate when after there has been drama or wrongdoing that there is a mention that proceeds are going to charity--as if it makes the copying/stealing of design so much more okay!) 😡
