oh my goodness, what a harrowing experience for you guys!!
I'm sure the major lifestyle changes she has to make now will take a while for her to assimilate. Sending healing, calming thoughts to her, and to both you and your husband.

I would have never expected a heart attack in a young 17-year old girl either! Especially one fit enough to be exercising right before it happened. Things were aligned as they needed to be for you to be able to get her to a hospital as quickly as you did before any further damage occurred. What a shock that must have been for all of you.
After she heals appropriately, will she always be at risk for this or was it just an odd anomaly that will not likely ever occur again?

Oh my God! I sobbed through your story. I want to say I cannot even imagine, but I have a daughter with a congenital heart defect, and two open heart surgeries behind her so I unfortunately can imagine.
It is so unbelievably scary. How lucky that she texted you and you got her in right away. Many good thoughts and prayers headed both of your ways.

She's young, momma, she's got a strong, young body and will heal. Hang in there and do take good gentle care of yourself too as you go through this with your girl. (((hugs)))

OMG! Do they know what caused the tear? That is terrifying. I'll say a prayer for your sweet girl. I have faith she'll make a great recovery, such a strong girl! It was caused by extreme exertion during exercise.
She was tested for a condition called fibromuscular dysplasia (I am sure I spelled that wrong) that can cause this, but she doesn't have it.
oh my gosh that is so crazy! Will she be able to make a full recovery? I'm sorry, I'm so full of questions. I come from a long line of heart problems (mostly early senior men, no kids!)

Prayers for your daughter and family @the Birdhouse Lady So scary for her and all of you! Sounds like she is getting very good care, and I hope she continues to mend. You are absolutely doing the right thing by helping her to focus on what she can do, and not what she can not!
My DH had an aortic dissection 4 years ago, as did @happymomma DS, so we understand the fear and all the unknowns with the medicine, long term prognosis, care, etc. Hang in there and reach out if you have any questions. My DH still has a descending dissection that they monitor on a continued basis, that they chose not to 'fix' when doing his ascending and valve, very similar to how the will monitor your DD I'm sure.

There just really aren't any words. It's been a rough year for you Momma. Wow.
I'm so glad she got the help she needed. But I'm also sorry for all the changes and fears this will cause. I think you'll all be a little jumpy for quite some time.
How are you going to handle the avoiding the cold issue? And how much exposure is too much? The cold and the winds are such a punch to the system.
Sending you my biggest hugs and healing vibes, wishing you all a positive mindset, and a great support system.

I was terrified just reading your post and, TBH, scanned down until I saw "She is doing better now. We came home last night." before I could go back and really read what happened. I truly can't imagine what you have gone through in the last week. {{hugs}} to you, your DD, and the whole family.

After she heals appropriately, will she always be at risk for this or was it just an odd anomaly that will not likely ever occur again? Unfortunately if this happened once it can occur again.
This happens usually to post partum women. But since we now know the possible scenarios she can take steps to avoid it. She may not be able to give birth naturally and would have to have a C-section. She wont ever be able to exercise to the degree that she has previously done.

oh my gosh that is so crazy! Will she be able to make a full recovery? I'm sorry, I'm so full of questions. I come from a long line of heart problems (mostly early senior men, no kids!) The tear will take 3 to 4 months to heal. She is going to be closely monitored by a cardiologist in the coming weeks. Unfortunately her heart will be forever damaged in that area.
There are still so many unknowns and questions that keep coming up that I will ask for answers on. Right now our focus is to keep her calm and positive and to regain some of her strength.

How are you going to handle the avoiding the cold issue? And how much exposure is too much? The cold and the winds are such a punch to the system. I know right! Living in Alaska and all cold sorta goes with the territory!
He doesn't want her to do any kind of outside activity. Basically she can walk from the house to the car, the car to the store etc. If it is really cold she needs to put a scarf over her mouth and nose as she moves from one place to the other. He does not want her to shiver, apparently that is really taxing on your heart.

OMG... that is crazy.. I'm so sorry!!! You just would never dream that for a 17 year old girl!! Prayers with you and your family and that she is back to her normal again! That sucks about prom and everything else. These are the days that she should be out having fun. My daughter is 20 and we had to have her checked out (she wanted to go into the Navy) but before she left her chest started hurting.. we had all kinds of tests ran and doctor said it was a typical teenage girl thing (and I can't remember the name) but it is common in girl's especially when they are short/little, but she would outgrow it. (I never heard of it, but I talked to our school's nurse and she knew right away what it was)... but after she passed all her Navy tests, swimming, physical, and on and on, 4 days before graduation it flared up and they kicked her out even know she was cleared. But what do you do. Now she is in college and it's basically paid for because of that. So.. her life just took a detour. Anyways, prayers again for her!!
