How are you going to handle the avoiding the cold issue? And how much exposure is too much? The cold and the winds are such a punch to the system. I know right! Living in Alaska and all cold sorta goes with the territory!
He doesn't want her to do any kind of outside activity. Basically she can walk from the house to the car, the car to the store etc. If it is really cold she needs to put a scarf over her mouth and nose as she moves from one place to the other. He does not want her to shiver, apparently that is really taxing on your heart.
Something else that's taxing that they sometimes forget to mention is vibration. So she probably shouldn't ever drive a riding lawn mower or atv type vehicles. If that's something she does, please double check.

Wow, I have been a cardiac ICU nurse for 30 years and never heard of a spontaneous dissection! Yes, there are aortic dissections and dissections occurring during stenting but, good grief, that is some scary stuff! Glad she is home and feeling better and so, so glad the doctors kept searching until they found her problem. Hang in there, Mom.

Oh how frightening for her, you and your DH. Wow! Did they do any testing for Marfan's syndrome, or related conditions? My mind immediately went there as well. I have dear friend who has a son that has just been diagnosed with Marfan's. Artery dissection is one of the things he (and others with Marfan's and similar conditions) are at a high risk of having happen.

I am so sorry for you and your beautiful daughter. As a mom, this is one of the most frightening posts that I have ever read. I can't begin to imagine how you felt hearing that news or dealing with everything she has and will go through in the coming days. Thank heaven she called you and you got her to the hospital in time. I am putting your family on my prayer list.
Please let let us know how she is doing.

Oh how frightening for her, you and your DH. Wow! Did they do any testing for Marfan's syndrome, or related conditions? Not that I am aware of. She did have a kidney ultrasound and a brain mri to rule out fibromuscular dysplasia. She does not have that. I am so sorry you are all dealing with this. Praying for you all, but especially healing over your daughter. Virtual hugs to you. I can't even imagine the shock, and pain you are all walking right now.

Oh my goodness. Just reading your description of what has gone on brought tears to my eyes. Your poor daughter. I always think of her as the girl with the fancy rhinestone running shoes… That's her right? I will certainly pray for her and for you as you adjust to this new normal.

Prayers for your daughter for a speedy recovery and patience as she learns her new normal. Prayers for you and the rest of the family as you also learn her new normal.
Did the doctors ask about her diet or anything? I read a few articles over 7-8 years ago about Cross Fit workouts (my son had to do them with his baseball team) and how stressful they are on the body/heart if not done correctly and in conjunction with the right diet that includes a higher magnesium intake. A few of the articles also suggested aspartame as a problem associated with intense workouts and heart attacks.
I admittedly don't know if those were just speculation but there may be more info out there now about it, but it's something to look into as a cause for a perfectly healthy teen having a heart attack. I know for myself, I'd be wanting an answer as to why.
My daughter had symptoms like your daughter's her senior year while playing a Volleyball match. One minute she was in the game playing hard, the next she was on the sideline, hyperventilating, hands and feet curled in and immobile. 911 was called and she was taken to the ER and they said she was just having a panic attack. That was scary enough! She had never had one before and there was no real reason why she would have had a panic attack. She now has anxiety attacks (not as extreme as the major panic attack during the game) over things that would be considered minor worries to someone without anxiety. It's hard to watch her struggle through it.
Please know, I truly am praying for your strength and hope that you can find answers and peace quickly.

Oh my goodness!
The rest of her coronary artery anatomy is normal in appearance? Asking because another cause is the absence of that normal anatomy. I know a 7 year old who passed away from that.
Marfans and other connective tissue disorders aside from fibromuscular dysplasia will need to be evaluated, same for about a dozen other conditions including certain thrombin deficiencies. The viral issues are actually not off the table with this. A torn coronary artery can still occur from the inflammation caused by a virus.
So glad it was caught and she is being treated! Hopefully, this was nothing that will affect her long term once she is healed and recovered.
Hugs to you all!

Wow! That is a terrifying thing for all of you to deal with. I am so glad you were able to get her medical treatment so quickly.
Reading your post brings back memories of how frightened I was when I passed out at school in2015 and then had two more episodes at the hospital. The last episode I actually coded and had to be shocked. Waking up with all of those people over me was very scary. I was afraid to be alone for quite a while after all of that happened.
I hope you can get some answers to why this happened and that it will never happen again. You will all be in my prayers.

It is scary, but knowledge is power. Once someone knows they have the condition, there are steps that can be taken to monitor the aorta and prevent dissections occurring. My FIL and all his sons, my DH included have this condition, or a condition similar known as Ftad (Familial Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection). The doctors are arguing which one now My FIL survived a large aortic dissection, and as a result found out he had this condition. This was about 20 years ago now. My DH and his brothers have all been tested, and are monitored. One BIL had to have his aorta wrapped as it had dilated too much. So that is why I say knowledge is power, as there are things that can be done IF you know what the problem is. We are getting ready to have our children tested also. @the Birdhouse Lady if you have questions about Marfan's or Ftab I will help in any way I can. I am not a medical professional, but I do have personal first hand experience within my own family. My suggestion though is, do not goggle! Just ask your cardiologist to be genetically tested for these conditions, then deal with facts that arise. Don't scare yourself unnecessarily. You have already been through SO much. We, the peas, may not be close in distance in the most part, but we are here for you.

Of all the things parents worry about, a coronary event would be one of the last things in a healthy teen. So glad she was able to get the care she needed so quickly. May Kaitlyn's recovery be swift and complete.
