I am trying to wear makeup again (new job, new opportunity to do things thar don't make other people wonder why you're doing them suddenly). I had some Bare Minerals mineral foundation that i used beforw, but I'm not liking it right now. Thinking of going with a liquid of some kind.
I'm mid-40s, have combination skin, and have some discoloration from sun exposure that I'd like to tone down. Any suggestions for things you like?
I have another question about skin care, but I'll put thar in another post.

I'd seriously suggest you go to Ulta or Sephora and ask for some help.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte. This is what I just started wearing after wearing zero foundation for a decade. I love it!

Sephora will give you decent sized samples to take home. So you can try for a few days and see how it works. And they have a good return policy. So don't feel stuck if something doesn't look right.

After being on a "perfect foundation mission" for about two years now I started using Revlon ColorStay Whipped on the suggestion of Zee and holy cow it's amazing. I use a beauty blender and it just looks perfect. I've tried high end and was never happy. This is perfect.

Revlon Color Stay Covers well, doesn't sweat off, doesn't fill in the lines like Bare minerals. I use Laura Geller Balance and Brighten over that. Lasts all day for me.

Like you, I've tried high end and drugstore and this beats everything by far. It's kind of heavy, so it might not be for everyone, but it lasts and makes your skin look great. Even my 45 year old skin.

I really like IT cosmetics- both the liquid foundation and the foundation in a compact!

I use IT CC Cream - and it has SPF 50. It makes even my 62 year old skin look good! I get it at Ulta but sometimes QVC has it in the large size.

I love It Cosmetics. During the summer I love to use the Illumination CC cream foundation. It has SPF50, so it's great for when I'm outdoors. Right now I'm using the It CC veil fluid foundation and I bake it with the CC airbrush perfecting powder for a pretty flawless finish. For drugstore foundations, I really like L'Oreal Infallible. My husband is a beauty and personal care engineer, so I get to test out makeup! He brought home L'Oreal Visible Lift foundation and I really liked that! It did not cake or settle in fine lines. And I just tried Wet N' Wild Photofocus foundation and loved it! But it does smell a little like paint. It was only $5.99 and stayed on all day!

maybelline fit me they have a matt finish and a dew one. I like fit me the best because of the number of shades they have. I can go from a light med to a toffee color in the summer.

I'm turning 50 this week and I have had more than one person tell me that my skin is "flawless" I wear MAC Studio Fix powder foundation and have for more than 20 years ... it just gives you the option of going light or heavier and works for almost any age (obviously!) ... love the stuff and will never change

I really Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. Why? It lasts 8-12 hours. It feels like nothing on my face. It covers all of my imperfections (well I do have one age spot that needs a concealer but other than that it's great) and I end up with a beautiful dewy finish. It doesn't settle into my under eye wrinkles. I don't need a primer under it if I apply it with a wet sponge ( I get the cheapy wedge ones from Ulta) I did buy their facial makeup applicator brush but prefer my sponges. And it comes in 24 colors. I'm a fair girl with a pink undertone. Most makeup colors come in a yellow undertone which make me look like death warmed over. That's my problem with the It line of makeup-foundation especially. Their line of colors is too small. The fair is too fair on me, but the next one up is too dark. I could blend them but then again the base is yellow. Why go through all of that when Urban Decay gives me what I want and does it so well? Yes it's expensive at $40.00 but to me it's worth it. You only need a little-1-2 pumps worth and for me a bottle lasts a long time. If you buy at Ulta you can try it and return it if you don't like. I'm not sure about Sephora (I don't normally shop there) but I think they have that policy too.

I just pick a Neutrogena foundation and hope for the best! I wear makeup, but the preceding discussion was like reading Chinese for me!

I used MAC foundation for years and years, the Studio Sculpt, but then it seemed to change and I started to look orange, and the lightest color was suddenly too dark for me.
I went through a period of trial and error. Tried several of the MAC foundations, as well as several other lines. I really loved the coverage of Urban Decay Allnighter, but it made me look really dry(it's a matte foundation).
After reading a previous foundation thread on here a few months ago, I tried a sample of the IT Cosmetics CC cream, and I love it. I really want to try IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation, but I need "Fair" and the lightest shade it comes in is "light", I am hoping they will expand the colors and make it in fair. I tried the new IT Confidence in a Compact, but didn't care for it.
After reading this thread, I might try the L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte, I love trying any kind of make-up.

Ulta sent me one of these from IT Cosmetics as a thank you for being a platinum member. Unfortunately, none of the colors they have work for me, but I did like the formula. Hijack: MichyM, I like your new avatar.

IT CC cream is my favorite! My dd wears this. Don't tell her, but sometimes I sneak into her bathroom and use it since I like it so much! OP, I went to Sephora and they hooked me up with a Makeup Forever foundation perfectly matched to my skin. Love it as well!!!

I'd seriously suggest you go to Ulta or Sephora and ask for some help. This is what I would recommend. They can color match you and play with the brands to see what works for you. I went from pressed powder to liquid a few months ago and am glad I had someone to color match for me. I am using Urban Decay now. It was what worked best with my skin.

I'm 52 and use IT cosmetics CC cream. I've been using it for a very long time and have had a lot of compliments on my skin while wearing it. I can't imagine switching back to anything else.
