This will not end well for Trump et al. He is in the deathroes of his presidency right now and hopefully one step closer to federal prison. From your lips to God's ears, I hope.

John Mc Cain's statement While the President has the legal authority to remove the Director of the FBI, I am disappointed in the President’s decision to remove James Comey from office. James Comey is a man of honor and integrity, and he has led the FBI well in extraordinary circumstances. I have long called for a special congressional committee to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. The president’s decision to remove the FBI Director only confirms the need and the urgency of such a committee.”
John McCain is my new, all-time favourite Republican.

While I agree all of you in principle, and I know Trump is a moron, one thing gives me pause. There has got to be SOMEONE on his team who realizes how suspicious this firing looks, in terms of the timing. Given that, I think it's too little, too late for Trump to get away with a cover-up. I hope anyway. That Maclean's article makes a convincing case that this firing could be Trump overplaying his hand & cutting his own throat. I honestly don't think there is anyone around Trump that can tell him what to do or not do. That's a big part of the problem.

John McCain is my new, all-time favourite Republican. I admire him a great deal. He is a true patriot. But I hope he doesn't back down on this. He has been outspoken about Trump before, but always seems to back down. Here is hoping he can find more support. It can't just be one Republican. It has to be a sea of them coming forward and showing some balls. This is the second time I have used the word balls in this thread.

There might be, but Trump won't listen to anyone but himself. He is the only opinion that matters to him. And that, along with what rodeomom said about him continuing to be untouchable, is what will be his downfall. He is cocky. Arrogant. That level of overconfidence is going to cause him to slip, badly. It's like when I worked in a non-profit in town. They fired the Executive Director. Now, he likely deserved it. But his firing happened through manipulation of a staff member who wanted his then-boyfriend (now husband) in the job. She succeeded in that. The few folks on staff who tried to manipulate things to get rid of him ended up getting fired. I warned them of that. I said to them, just hold on, do your job, and wait for him to screw up. He will eventually cut his own throat. It took a while, and the new Board Chair those staff members got elected fired me before it happened, but I was proven correct. In the end, they did more damage trying to force him out than they would have had they just let him fail on his own.

Sometimes what appears, on the surface, to be backing down is actually biding one's time until one can gather the resources needed. Between Russia & the health care debacle, could well see good changes in 2018. That'll give McCain more people to work with, in a bipartisan capacity, to address the situation (assuming Trumplethinksin lasts that long). friendly - sometimes that which is part of the problem is also part of the solution.

You will see how they are trying to spin this. This is the way a lot of Reps will look at it. People who support him will think he did the right think. I don't believe this will bring him down. I hope I'm wrong.

Comey needs to watch his back. He may be The Man Who Knows Too Much. Now on THAT we agree. Obviously, the ideal is that he remains safe. If that's out of his/our hands, I hope he was aware enough to have something set up so that a bunch of stuff gets released should anything happen to him.

rodeomom - I don't have access to Fox here. Again - may not matter. The really hard core Fox fans who believe them when they full-on lie are the folks Maher was talking about when he made that comment about not worrying about Trump supporters. There aren't enough of them, in & of themselves, to be overly concerned about.

What isn the hell is the matter with him? What a classless act firing him in the manner he did. He certainly didn't deserve to learn of his firing on TV with the rest of the world. Heaven help us all.

Lindsey Graham: "Given the recent controversies surrounding the Director, I believe a fresh start will serve the FBI and the nation well." So if you were hoping for some ethical Republicans, you can stop hoping. Trump should put Betsy DeVos there. Hell, she's as qualified to be head of the FBI as she is to be in charge of Education.

Maybe there is more-than-one grownup in the Republican party in another branch of a our government who will recognize that sentence as a colossal blunder. Maybe.

My husband just listened to her at an education conference in SLC today. She said that before taking the job, she really didn't know all of what the Dept. of Ed did. The audience was stunned and insulted at the same time. In terms of McCain, I continue to be saddened that he sold his soul/integrity to the Tea Party and ran with Palin. That nomination was the nail in the coffin of the GOP as the party of fiscal conservatism, less government in people's personal lives, and hard-line against Russia.

My thoughts exactly. Now the question is, are those assholes in Congress going to let him appoint some toady who will make the investigations disappear? Giuliani? There was a time when I might have thought that a good match. But Giuliani has gone senile or something.

I truly believe the GOP didn't give him a choice on his running mate. And I think when she was announced was when he gave up the fight. The GOP blows with the popular wind. Whatever group can scream the loudest, has the most presence, is where they pledge their loyalty. Right now, the Trump crowd is still the loudest arm of the Right wing. Save
