This is not a new thing, but it feels like it is getting worse.
By the time I pull my card from the reader (I use a chip card to pay), the cashier has not even said "thank you for shopping here" or "have a good day" or any type of polite acknowledgement, but is already ringing up the next customer's items.
I feel like I have to hurry to grab my bags and get out of the way.
Is anyone else feeling rushed at checkout now a days?

No, but I wish more people did instead of taking their sweet sweet time poking around.

I only feel like that at Aldi. I try to talk with the cashier at times (say hi or something) and they are in such a hurry that they can't even look up. I get that they have to go fast. But it is a little ridiculous there.

No - but I have to say I don't shop in actual retail stores very often...

No I usually do not feel rushed. However, I really hate the few times I will be shopping and they call for the next guest before I am done putting my money and card in my wallet! I feel like this happens at CVS mostly. Really obnoxious and rude. I don't take forever but at least let me get my money put away!

I don't have this issue but if I did I wouldn't complain because I appreciate a fast check out experience.

Yes. But I am one of those who hate feeling rushed and think we hurry way too much. It's hard on the soul.

That was more information than you wanted to know.
Yes I feel rushed because I make myself get out fast.

I take as long as I need getting everything gathered up. What really bugs me is the people behind who are encroaching on my space, practically breathing down my neck as I deal with the card reader. Back off. Breathing the same air as me does not make the transaction go faster.

Yes. But I am one of those who hate feeling rushed and think we hurry way too much. It's hard on the soul. I don't feel rushed when checking out, however, I agree with the rest of this. I am tired of people being in such a rush all of the time. Especially when that manifests itself in them crawling up my back bumper on the road, despite the fact that I am in fact already exceeding the speed limit by a bit. Of course rushing through life or taking it slow is a personal preference, and that's fine, but sometimes those rushing about are doing so at the expense of others. If you're already running late for work when you atop at the store, or if you just hate shopping and want out as fast as possible, that's on you, not the little old lady counting her change as she puts it away or the cashier with a disability that maker take a bit more time or whatnot. Grumbling out loud about having to wait an extra 15 seconds won't make things better for anyone. And while I certainly know that many people can be in a hurry, but still be polite and patient (and a huge "Thank you!" to those folks), I am only aggravated by those other type of rushing people, which is why I mentioned them. To answer the OP, no, I don't often feel rushed, by I know that my mother does. She has her wallet set up just so, and when she's done paying she wants to be able to put her card away or to put her change back into the bill & coin compartments and tuck her receipt in a certain spot. And really,t hat only takes a few seconds, and she gets upset when the cashier starts the next person while she's still juggling both her open purse and her open wallet. It makes her nervous that she may drop something important. I always just jam my card & receipt or change & receipts into a pocket and sort it later, but she just hates that because she figures 10 seconds right then and there can keep thing organized instead of accumulating a mess by the time all of the shopping is done. I do admit that on days when we go several places I do occasionally have a pocket full of chaos when I get home. (And yes, I did accidentally throw away a $20 bill once because of that, so my mom has been vindicated in her advising me against my "system", LOL!)

My biggest pet peeve is people who are too slow. I need you to move out of the way as soon as you pay so I can stand in front of the credit card reader to enter my store royalty card. Some people take forever collecting their bags.

I feel rushed at one store because the card reader is BEFORE the register. So I want to push the cart up for the bagger, but then the rude person behind me who has nearly clipped my heels with her cart is in front of the card reader. I think next time I'll say "If you want to pay for my groceries, cool, otherwise, Imma need to get to the reader there."
Target bothers the heck out of me because they will start ringing up my stuff before the person in front of me leaves the line. I ALWAYS ask them to wait a minute before they continue ringing because I want to watch the prices.
But my regular grocery store moves at just about the right pace, at least as far as the cashiers go. I avoid one particular bagger because he's always got like three more bags to pack when the cashier is done because he thinks it's his job to carry on a conversation with everyone about their groceries.

I think on other threads cashiers have chimed in that they get timed now for how fast they can get people through the line, and they get docked in some way if they're too slow. Personally I think it's really lousy customer service to rush people through especially if it's faster than they want to go. It's one thing if someone is in a hurry for the cashier to scream through their stuff to help them get on their way quicker and another thing entirely to make it their job to intentionally rush people through. What chaps me the most is when the cashier is rushing through my stuff and bothers to ask me if I found everything I was looking for. Yeah, right, like you are going to slow down this line to help me find some oddball thing that wasn't where it ought to be? Didn't think so. Sometimes the rules these corporate stores put on their employees is absolutely contradictory and completely ridiculous. Quite honestly, my favorite checkout lines are the automated ones where I scan and bag the stuff myself. Then I don't have to deal with another person at all, there usually isn't anyone directly behind me crawling up my backside and I can take all the time I want.

I was going to be coy or something and not mention the name but honestly Rite Aid bugs the shit outta me at the beginning before I even walk up to the register (provided there's someone there I mean) they are screaming "rewards card!"
I'm assuming the transaction can't go any further without it or some form of no customer doesn't want to provide you with all of that bologna.
It's so rude now anyway. Then when the chip switch over came along cashiers fussing.
I just think somewhere along the way niceness went out the window.

No, but I wish more people did instead of taking their sweet sweet time poking around. I'm going to have to go with this. Seriously. Why does it take 47.6 minutes to put your flipping change away?! And why must you do that directly in front of the cashier? My purse is very neat and orderly so I can appreciate wanting to put away your change just so. So you know what I do?! I take my change and roll on past the cashier, out of the way, and take all the time I need *out of the flow of traffic.* This is one of my biggest irritations with the human race. That and the ones who don't pull all the way up in the drive-thru. It should not bother me as much as it does. I'm a very nice person otherwise.

I really feel that way at Costco. They are grabbing for the membership card before they are done with the current transaction. There's not time for conversation. It's rush, rush, rush. I love the store, I just dread check-out.

I don't feel rushed, but I'm a Walmart shopper where cashiers are always friendly and chatty. I don't allow the shopper behind me to rush me either. I gather my card, cash back and my receipt and put them into my purse while still close to the check out area. I do get annoyed at people who actually fill in their check. So unnecessary. It doesn't need to be signed or any other time consuming detail. Just hand the cashier the check - the register fills everything in automatically.

And how many bajillion comments have we had on this board about the length of the checkout line? I don't ever complain about the length of the line when ALL the registers are OPEN. My complaints are voiced when there are 16-20 lanes and two cashiers tearing their hair out trying to ring up 25 stressed out, crabby people each. Been there, done that AND IT SUCKS. (Just one of a thousand reasons why I'll never, ever work retail again.) Open some stinking registers already! That complaint isn't aimed at the cashier just trying to do her best, that one's on the management.

I sometimes fill rushed when I am trying to put my card away. Then it ends up in the bottom of my bag and I freak when I am trying to find it next time. I especially do now because of the chip. Used to be you would swipe your card and put it away while the cashier was still ringing up, now you have to insert it and wait until the transaction is over and then you are juggling signing, removing the card, getting the receipt, and taking your items all at once. And not forgetting the card in the slot. I don't have my chip card rhythm yet.

No.
I don't need to have a conversation with anyone. Let's all go fast.
I have plenty of time to put my card alway while waiting for the receipt to print, so I don't understand people who are still screwing around when their turn is over.
Move. Get out of the way.

Everything went so much smoother and faster when we didn't have to wait for the cashier to finish. We could swipe and put away at the beginning of the transaction.
