Seriously? WTF link? off to google.
ETA I guess I shouldn't be surprised. He was on '45's side' and endorsed him. As long as you are for 45 and don't cross him, you're good. Sins, breaking laws and morals be damned.

He also signed the ban on transgender people joining the military today. WTF.
ETA: So apparently law enforcement can now ignore court orders with impunity ... this president will pardon them.

He also signed the ban on transgender people joining the military today. WTF. I missed that! I guess he is hoping that with the hurricane and it being a Friday night no one will notice. Asshole!

The disturbing part is there are people cheering these decisions. Three and a half more years of this? Come on Russian investigation!

Trump is a deplorable person and anyone who still supports him is too. I agree. Spreadsheet keepers, please put down that I liked and verbally agreed with this statement. If you are still supporting Trump at this point, you are a racist bigot with no respect for the rule of law. Don't like that description? Too damn bad. Suck it up and own it.

Not surprised, he hinted at it....and I think it is a shame that he actually did it.
we can only hope it will come back and haunt him

Absolutely disgusting. This asshat keeps going from bad to worse to even worse.
Arpaio should rot in an effing prison tent in the Arizona summer. But of course he's scum, so the scum in the White House is going to take care of him.
This just makes me feel ill.

Yes, Joe. That's how the law is supposed to work - no one (theoretically) is beyond it. Unless they have enough money or friends w/money. Welcome to America.

And of course he did this on a Friday afternoon when unpopular decisions are usually announced from a President. Also the news media is leading with the hurricane. For a man who claims not to be a politician he is certainly learning the game and playing the parts that suit him.

I just read a tweet (I'll try to find it...) that states Trump and his cracker-jack team of nitwits did not go through the proper channels with the DOJ for this pardon.
The decision to pardon Arpaio is appalling, but unsurprising. Trump has proven himself to be a racist and Arpaio is a supporter. This wasn't a question of "if", but "when".

He tortured people and violated their constitutional rights. He did it from a position of authority, with delight. He encouraged others to do the same. He is exactly the opposite of a person who deserves mercy.

I knew he would do it, but still- it makes me so mad. Like they said on MSNBC, he pardoned someone who was tasked with UPHOLDING the law for being in contempt of the rule of law. He has shown his supporters that the laws DO.NOT.MATTER.

Sickening. I thought pardons were for people who had been convicted wrongly or with questionable evidence or who had served part of an excessive sentence. Not surprised in the least, but still very sad. Definitely not the reasons a presidential pardon is given. They are often personal or partisan and controversial like this one for Arpaio, but more often done at the end of term when there is little political fall out. IMHO Trump did it to shore up his base and keep them happy. He is doubling down on building the wall and needs Joe's support and people to help him because the local Reps & Senators aren't behind him. SaveSave

It figures. Arpaio is just the sort of creature that Trump would admire. A racist pig.

Of course he pardoned him. Arpaio was and still is, one of the Obama haters who still believes his birth certificate was fake.
Trump is just like him and a wanna be Arpaio.

SaveSavePardons are also sometimes done in the case of someone who has shown substantial rehabilitation, or because of some other mitigating factor that makes the sentence being served no longer appropriate. I agree with your assessment for Trump's reasons. The only mitigating factor I can see is that the guy is OLD and going to jail, if it came to that, would be perhaps cruel and unusual. But it doesn't excuse the fact that Trump is making a statement here that law enforcement doesn't have to follow court orders. Trump's been butting heads with the judiciary from day 1, and this sends a dangerous signal that he has no respect for the judicial branch.

I heard that Arpaio's lawyers got the notice that he would be pardoned early today but the White House waited to announce...letting the storm in Texas get closer to land as a distraction.

I really think that what we are witnessing is the end of the Republican party. I have been a Republican my whole life (though I don't vote straight party ticket). I don't see how the party can come back from this (racist, misogynistic and just stupid).
