I don't know if Arizona is the same as NY. In NY, we elect a new sheriff every four years. If it's the same in Arizona, it looks like the citizens of Maricopa County were ok with the treatment that Arpaio was dishing out, which makes this even more disgusting. 50 years of this and nobody in the county thought that something should be done about him? Lots of us had issues with him and voted against him. But he had the support of lots of old, white retired people in sun city. The latino community really tried hard to get people to show up to vote this time. And lots of people who had voted for him on the past finally got sick of paying for his legal battles.

I don't live in Maricopa County, so I couldn't vote against him. But I was sick to DEATH of his fear-mongering speeches, making the retirees think that illegal Mexicans were going to break into their houses and murder them in their beds in Sun City... THAT is the viewpoint he pushed for YEARS in order to stay in office. He preyed on their (unfounded, unsubstantiated) fears. and like I said, his staffers and the county had to clean up-- and COVER up-- and pay for-- a LOT of his fu@k-ups, for a VERY long time. It's just that the fear-mongering overrode the bad press and bad publicity.

Thankfully, he's out of a job now. I'm sure there were many good people who voted against him, but more of the others that tipped the scale the other way.

I have to go through and read all the pages, but by accepting a pardon, isn't that an admission of guilt which would now open him up to civil lawsuits?

No one has any problem with new or "new" posters until they don't fall in line with the group think. Then they get the treatment. I haven't disparaged anyone here, but I've been met with name calling and hostility for not falling in line. Hmmm, now I wonder why anyone would ever leave here or come back as a "new" so they can participate peacefully? That is a head scratcher. So... What is your viewpoint and opinion on Joe Arpario being pardoned? Waiting... glad I'm not holding my breath.

I also dont' understand why the state of AZ can't bring charges (or haven't in the past), because a federal pardon doesn't cover state crimes, only federal charges (is my understanding).

He was convicted of the crimes!! No appeals. I read something today that this will also assist Mueller. I proves that dt attempted to obstruct justice, by asking Sessions to stop the prosecution of Arpaio. And it may have been mentioned in the meetings with Comey .... same type thing... As hard as it is, this may be a good thing long term.

The most civil I can be about that is - he proves me wrong again and again. Just when I think he can't be a shittier human being, he continues to surprise me.

Yeah, when the sky was literally falling over Texas, Trump decided to rub everyone's noses in it as they were glued to the television for updates on the storm. He is an evil man.
