I'll find a link in a minute. The CNN news person is reading President Obama's statement. She finished and said "wow" and her voice trailed off.... wow indeed. edited with the text. The photo is from a few years ago but the statement is today's. Obama's statement

Lol, thanks Busy. I was editing to add it just as you were posting. And omg I miss President Obama so much! Remember what it was like to have a caring literate eloquent person in the White House?

This makes me cry. It holds our nation to such an idealistic standard, one of hope and potential. I don't know that we can rise up to the challenge. :-(

redhead32 I agree. That's essentially what I replied to his statement on Twitter. Can we get back? How do we get back? What a devastating and lightening fast spiral we've been on...

Oh, how I miss President Obama. I know. He believed the best of us. Instead we showed him our worst.

Well, I for one, am glad Obama's gone. He created this mess with DACA. He knew full well that what he did with a "phone and a pen", the next president could undo with a "phone and a pen".
This is and always has been an issue for Congress. Had Obama put it through Congress, we wouldn't be here now. The idea that he did it because Congress wouldn't do what he wanted is absurd. So, he used an executive order to create a right in this country and the next president is using an executive order to undo it. That's the problem with by-passing Congress. And Obama's action was every bit the political action he now accuses Trump of.

So he took the morally right and entirely legal route and implemented DACA.

In your opinion, he took the morally "right" action. Many Americans disagree with your assessment. Trump is now taking the same legal route to repeal DACA. However, he's deferred it 6 months to give Congress a chance to act.
Executive actions are "legal". No one disputes this. BUT, executive actions are easily undone. Obama knew these when he used it to implement DACA. He was banking on Hillary's winning the election. He backed the wrong horse and now finds his successor with the same "legal" options.

I haven't heard a single morally defensible explanation for expelling 800,000 people from this country who have done nothing wrong, have complied with everything asked of them, and who are contributing members of our society.

Remember "good ol' Mitch McConnell" pledged--promised--that he would do everything in his power to obstruct anything and everything Obama did. President Obama did not "create this mess" as you claim, he was trying to lend a solution to years upon years of nothing fixed.

When congress refused to do the right thing, Obama took a gamble and did it for them, with the hope that the next president would be a person of compassion and good sense and either leave the EO to stand or compel a same-party Congress to enshrine it in law.
He lost on the first half of the gamble, so now we have to hope that Congress will do the right thing. Personally I don't have much hope, because they wouldn't do it before out of pure spite.
I'm sick of hearing about how this is all Obama's fault because he did it with an EO, though. Trump has made it his personal mission to tear down everything Obama did whether by EO or passing legislation. We see this with the effort to repeal the ACA, leave the Paris agreement, and many other things. It's highly disingenuous to say that Trump is just undoing this because the EO was an overreach. He's shown quite clearly that he'd be pushing for it to be repealed if it had passed through Congress, too.

IF Congress chooses to do nothing, then they as our elected representatives get to choose. The fact that the President wants something and the congress doesn't give it to him doesn't justify unilateral action and if the President does choose to act unilaterally, then so can the next president.
Funny how Obama's motives are always golden and Trumps are always suspect. Actually, no, it's not funny; it's damn sad.

Trump and Sessions--political and racist to the core. it's really hard to see this DACA rescission as anything but political and racist. the Muslim ban, the statements about Charlottesville, the Wall.

It's YOUR opinion that it wasn't morally right. Millions upon millions of Americans feel that it WAS the morally right, compassionate and humanitarian thing to do given that Congress (ALL republicans and 3 democrats) could not come to a workable solution, instead, Congress's inaction further burdened the government offices that work immigration. Obama didn't "back the wrong horse" either, the jackass donkey in the WH now is the laughing stock of the free world right now and an embarrassment. He's a liar every day he breathes, dishonest in every way, and needed the help of the Russians to win the election. And looky-looky what a big fucking mess he's made now--a country more divided than ever.

Exactly, half the country feel one way and half feel the other. You can claim that your way is the morally correct way but that's only your opinion. As is the fact that those who think different than you believe their way is the morally correct one.
I get that you hate Trump. You state it every single day. The country is now "more divided than ever" is because your "side" can't deal with the fact that they lost and are going to make sure that everyone in this country has to "pay" until the next election. To quote Obama "elections have consequences". I guess he's not so glib now that the consequences are ones he doesn't like.

Trump won because he lied with every single breath he took as well as had the Russians helping him to win. your responses are void of any compassion for these young innocent kids. Your responses have been nothing more than the "typical" Breitbart, propaganda spouting, gaslighting, Fox News reciting Hysteria of a sect of conservatives.
