Fellow Peas- This is a spin off of another thread.
Forming a new support group/challenge group for those of us who are interested (or already doing) some sort of fasting/low carb program. I thought we could use this thread for discussion, and when we are ready-we can form the actual thread for the group with a start date. Thoughts?
I ordered the "The Obesity Code" book and am still waiting for it to arrive. I have never done a fasting or Keto program, but I have done some low-carb diets before. Looking for something new to motivate me to lose much needed weight.
Would love to have a support group for like-minded Peas.
Kim

Good timing. I've been doing low carb for over a year but have strayed lately. I'll appreciate extra support getting focused.

I'm in! I've lost 30 pounds over the last year with low carb/IF -- but I've been stalled lately and would like to lose the last 10 or so pounds.

Awesome! How much structure do we need to give this group, if any?
Keep it just focused on IF/low carb-or anything goes in terms of trying to be healthy and losing weight?
Do we want to shoot for next Monday 10/16 as a start date?

I'm doing Whole30, but it's not low carb (because it does include potatoes, sweet and white). But I would love to join if possible

I'd like to join you! Monday would be a perfect day for me to start.
I actually tried a 24-hour fast a few weeks ago after skimming the "Obesity Code" thread. The day went surprisingly well, although I did probably eat too much (too much junk) when I did eat that evening. I want to have a better plan and stick to it this time around!
Thanks for starting the thread!

I am interested as well. I haven't read up on it yet, but have seen people have success with this.

Yes! I'm in! I've been doing Keto off and on for a few months and just re-committed myself to it yesterday. I'm hoping the IF will come along naturally eating stricter Keto. Thanks for starting this!

I'd like to join. I've been doing IF since June and would like to try some longer fasts. I lurk on the Obesity Code thread but this may prompt me to post more.

I want to join in the group. I am getting ready to start low-carb IF anyway & it will be easier with some support.

Still keto (pretty lazy keto) here. Weight is coming off slowly but it is coming off, and I don’t find this too difficult to stick to. I do an 18 hour fast most days.

Is it possible to just have a separate thread instead of joining the other one? I am pretty clueless about Keto etc in general and am looking for menu ideas etc.

I'm doing Whole30, but it's not low carb (because it does include potatoes, sweet and white). But I would love to join if possible Yeah, I eat some fruit at breakfast (I love berries!) and I eat some dairy also, so I'm neither entirely keto or Whole 30, but I do generally eat low-carb (and no-processed-carb) with a focus on whole foods, and I would love to be in if it is OK to be a little off plan (and I have seen groups where that is not OK and am fine if you guys would like to keep this group strictly Keto).

I'm in. I'm on the last lap of my diet. I've lost so much weight that I am actually embarrassed to say because I let myself just get out of control. I've got 20-30 lbs left (30 for my ideal weight, but 20 and I"m happy) and it is HARD now. My weight is very slow to come off and I find it harder and harder to continually say no to all the things I love (eating and wine!). I do keto. What is IF?

I'd like to join please! I started eating Keto on the 1st of the month, and have lost 8 pounds. I need as much inspiration and encouragement as I can get! Really Red IF is intermittent fasting. Say you finish your last meal at 7pm. You don't eat again for another 14/16/18 or however many hours. Someone else can probably explain it better.

I have lost almost 100 pounds in the last year doing a low carb diet.
I have never shared that here, and I have never participated in any weight loss discussion on the board, but I would be very interested in this thread. especially with the holidays fast approaching, a little (or a lot) of support will be great!

Sure. I'd love to have a place to chat about it again.
I've been falling off the keto bandwagon mainly because my dh cooks dinner and still doesn't understand how low carb I really need to be to get rid of my insulin resistance!

I just ate the best soup. I made a whole chicken with all sorts of veggies I had in the fridge - onions, broccoli, celery, carrots - and used the stock and blended all the veggies together for a soup. VERY low cal and absolutely filling and delicious. melissa I have just decided that I have to make my own food. Now that 2/3rds of my kids are in college, it's just my son and me. He's a very tall boy and very athletic, which means he needs to eat a lot and more carbs than a regular person. So he gets one meal and I make another for myself. I sit with him to eat and we've just gotten used to our new normal. It was strange at first and now it feels good not to force myself to eat a little of what he was eating. His stuff is SO much better than mine tinydogmafia - woo hoo!!! That is super impressive! I've lost a goodly amount of weight myself and while I like hearing that I look good, I hate hearing it, too. It makes me feel that I was horrible before. Some people say things in just the right way, but others make it seem like I was just rolling down the halls at work. "HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST, RED?!!! A TON!!!" That makes me feel awful. Some of them (really more than half) want to put a number to it. I refuse. I just say more than I wish I had to. Another one of my hated ones is "You look SO MUCH YOUNGER!" Well [bleep]. I was rolling around and getting caught in wrinkles. I know people mean well, so I let it all go, but it makes me feel bad. So from behind the 5th wall, congratulations! I'm sure you looked great before and now you still look great and feel better! Here's my question: for those of you on low-keto diets, are you doing one in particular?

Yes- I'm in. I've been doing low carb/lazy keto for almost 2 years. Still keto (pretty lazy keto) here. Weight is coming off slowly but it is coming off, and I don’t find this too difficult to stick to. I do an 18 hour fast most days. What do you both mean by lazy keto? I don't want to do 100% full keto, reading every single label for one gram of sugar and carbs. I'd like to still have some fruit or potato/rice (I don't eat gluten). Is that what you mean by lazy? Does it still work? I was just worried if you were eating full fat dairy etc and occasionally cheating it wouldn't work. I guess it should if you avoid simple carbs and most sugar. I'm not 100% gluten free, I just don't eat the obvious gluten like bread, pasta, cake if I eat too much it gives me migraines so I avoid it. I don't need to read labels, so I'm not 100% free which is nice. I try to avoid sugar as often as possible, I break out in pimples, bloats my stomach and it makes my hormonal migraines worse.

What has worked best for me is just avoiding any sugar or starches except on special occasions, when I may have a limited amount. I eat full fat dairy (cream in my coffee and full fat yogurt daily) and and don’t count my carbs. I skip breakfast and do an 18 hour fast most days. I don’t eat much fruit. Like I said, it’s slow. But for me, it’s sustainable. I feel better than I’ve felt in a long time and I am slowly losing weight. I was more strict during the summer, but since school has started this is what I can manage. I don’t miss bread and pasta at all, and don’t have a hard time limiting the occasional sweets. When I make burgers or tacos for the fam I just have mine on lettuce. I sub zucchini for pasta.
