Does anyone have any clue just how much their wanting in total? Some one asked that in the FB group, and asked if it was possible to get the progress toward the goal. Tracie said: " We haven't even come close to what our hosting fee is annually. We don't really have a goal. We just ask for $5 a year from those who want to contribute and then see what we get!" followed with a kissy face. Sorry, no screen shot, I don't have FB on my phone anymore and I'm not too good at editing out names.

If every member donated $5 that's $38,605. I have no problem supporting podcasts and listen to several that have a Patreon and are upfront about what that money goes towards. What bothers me is the secrecy around how much they need and how much they have likely over achieved that target.

I am not impressed by celebrities, scrapbooking or otherwise. They are people, often very talented, but I just don't get the celebrity fascination.
Having said that, if I were going to follow their (or anyone's) podcasts, and they were asking for money, I would want to know how much they need, and what costs actually are to host the podcasts. I tried to look up what podcast hosting costs. It looks like there might be a significant monthly expense, so I can see they would not want to be out of pocket. They also might want to make something for their time. No problem, thwt's understandable, too. But just a vague request for money would not sit well with me. The idea of a Go Fund Me, or something similar, where the amount is listed, and they show how much they still have to go, at least seems a reasonable request to me. Maybe they are afraid to indicate just how much they are trying to get. $5 per person doesn't sound like much. Not everyone will donate, but it could result in a significant amount.
Under the circumstances, I would never consider donating, even if I loved their podcast. I don't blame y'all for your concerns, especially after reading the various responses.

They are on PodOmatic! That's US$8.32 a month (fixed fee). Not even $10 A MONTH! Currently on sale at $2.5 a month! I'm sorry. I just feel the need to express my utter disbelief at their donation demands. Gonna repeat it again (and again and again): THEY HAVE SPONSORS. The hosting fees are most certainly covered. Don't you guys worry.
They are not taking on a big time podcast hosting plan like the special Business plan at Podbean (for $99 a month) or Blubrry's most expensive option ($80 a month). Even if they were, the sponsors alone would likely cover those costs (and then some).
They are making a profit off their audience's lack of knowledge. They know their listeners aren't the most tech-savvy bunch and have no clue how cheap it is to host (and make) a podcast. That's why they keep it all vague: "If everyone gives $5, we'll be fine." Are you kidding me? They'll be fine to meet up and do their weekly BFF lunch/dinner after recording, pay for a backdrop and whatnot. Anyone willing to donate after reading this is a fool, I'm sorry to say.

I did not know Toni got involved with her. That is just effing upsetting. Toni you are dead to me. I was a dumb ass for saying you are a sweetheart and a true person on here recently. I swear I am so leery of trusting anybody in this industry any more. This girl is going to buy her China dies, her off brand paper and do her own thing. I am not buying these "scrap" stars, I use that term loosely, products any more. I feel like those who sponsor are just as liable as those who do it. I know I am in a really bad mood. One of my friends was involved in the Harvey Weinstein disaster. It is coming out all about his monstrous behavior towards women. I feel so stupid and angry for trusting him. Can I XXXX out that part with the word friend? He knows I am an assault survivor. Has been one of my biggest champions. I feel like a big dumbo right now for recommending Tori to you all. I am sorry. I didn't honestly know she was like that. I am truly sorry. You know Tracie is going to get money for her podcast. She has her loyal supporters. I do hope that some of her fans who don't know about her behavior do see these threads. I can tell you without a doubt it feels really bad when you find out somebody you trusted turns out to be a louse. I do hope that somebody is able to show Tracie's viewer's what sleepingbooty found out about the cost of her podcast. Never ever give anybody money who threatens to stop something or raise something. That is just an abuse tactic.

So I posted this over in that group replying to the lady who asked what there goal is. I thought I was nice about it, but I'm sure it will ruffle some feathers I don't give a shit if I were to donate 5 or 50 dollars, I want to see where my money is going. I don't know how to screen shot
I don't think that is tacky at all ( I tagged the lady who commented) For me in this day and age, I like to know what my money is going towards. This is just a little too vague for me, A little info never hurts. Not trying to step on any toes or anything but just donating to someone without knowing facts is something I wouldn't do. GoFundMe shows a goal and progress towards that goal, which is a really helpful thing. I have no idea what it costs to run a Podcast, but it would be nice to see a cost breakdown. If everyone, or even half of this group donated 5 dollars, we're talking about a lot of money, and I don't think a podcast costs that much to run.

The sponsors they do have are from the retreat. That is how they get all the stuff for the giveaways. They aren't buying the majority of it. They are getting it from businesses and companies in turn for advertising.

A little transparency never hurts...especially when you're asking people (strangers no less) for their hard earned money.
There's no way I would donate even if I knew nothing about Tracie. I am skeptical to begin with.

I want say I remember them mentioning costs the first year they took up a collection and that it mostly went to storing the podcasts and $1000 a year is the number I have in my head. I’m not sure how that works with podcast files but 3+ years of hour long shows must add up in terms of storage. In general, I don’t think they should have to disclose their expenses as I wouldn’t expect that from any other podcaster or you tuber but after the pacemaker scam, a little transparency would be more than appropriate. dasmith2 , I expect you’ll get a tounge lashing and banned from the group for your post but love that you put it out there but I’m curious to see how she responds. I also want to mention, reading about TC selling her old stash at the crop while collecting donations from the attendees just really brought her down to a new low and I can’t help but wonder if she picked out/kept things she liked before donating them.

Comment on thread: "Thanks ladies ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) You might also want to explore the Patreon site. Several of the podcasts I listen to take donations through that, and offer special videos, content etc. to their 'patrons'. Just a suggestion in case this was something appealing to you." Tracie's response "My husband has been after me to do that the entire time we've had a podcast but Tiffany and I feel like if everybody would just contribute $5 once a year, that would be good enough for us! But thank you so much for suggesting that. That means a lot to me." How much did you say that added up to Chinagirl828 ?

I think the second part is Tori Bissell. Tori was selling stuff and collecting donations? At the crop? Hmmm...well you got me. I can't keep the sleeze straight. The story sounded familiar. I know Tori was asking for donated supplies for a country as a pick me up (can't recall the country) and then was selling off stash a short time later instead of donating it to her special (and bizarre) cause. Don't know the avenue in which she attempted to sell so perhaps I stuck my foot in my mouth. Sorry about that...it just all sounded so familiar.

I wonder if the resistance to Patreon is the loss of listeners. Most podcasts and you tube channels built their following by offering free content. It's hard to convince people to pay for it after the fact. while I enjoy watching you tube videos, I'm not paying for the privilege. that's what sponsors and affiliate links and free product from companies are for. I'm your audience, not your employer. Unless i'm going to get input into your product with my payment and even then, nope. The few people i followed on YT that moved to the Patreon model I stopped following because they rarely release new content for free. One less subscriber for them and i'm sure i'm not the only one.

The podcasting info has been really helpful. I've been thinking about podcasting for a while and it's good to see validated my gut sense that it's not too expensive of a hobby.

Patreon would also be considered income, wouldn't it? So this is also a way to avoid paying taxes.
