Are liberals more vulgar? My mother, a (non-unionized) teacher used to say it was the sign of a poor vocabulary. Or is it just being lazy? Have you ever read the comments section in an online news article?

I don't curse often, but I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday and I'm fairly certain that after mile 20, I'll start using the f-word like a comma. So be it. Good luck to you!!! I was going to respond to the question about cussing, but I think this thread is an attempt to start a fight with liberal peas. Liberal peas, if you ignore the attempts by people who are obviously trying to get a reaction, they will eventually stop or get bored and go away. If you fight with them, you are giving them what they want.

Me too! But I try not too when making political arguments. (JC wouldn't like the name-calling.)

Does your mother consider Trump a liberal? Vulgar- check, poor vocabulary-check. I do hope she is retired from teaching, bless her heart. What? My mother is a yellow dog Democrat. No, bless YOUR heart (with that poor reading comprehension and all). Care to share what I didn't comprehend in your OP? I asked if your mom thought Trump was a liberal, based on her assumptions of liberals, as stated by you. I didn't ask about her political leanings, nor was it in your OP. Who has the reading comprehension issues? You answered a question I did not ask. And seriously, your mother is a yellow dog conservative Democrat? How does she hide her unicorn horn? Or does she cuss like a construction worker (non union, of course), and was including herself in that giant heap of generalized liberals? No need to answer. I can smell fecal matter from a bull a mile away. Enjoy your evening.

I guess it depends on your definition of vulgar, then. Anything I wouldn't say in front of my mother. Anything not helpful or kind. Definitely the f word. There's nothing I wouldn't say to/in front of my own mother. I don't have an issue with language my kids use in my presence. Swearing AT me (or me swearing AT my mom) not okay. That's not casual or respectful. But me swearing to my mom, or my kids swearing to me...IMO, not a big deal. My ex had a HUGE issue with swearing and language. My opinion was at the time (and still is) that you can just as easily harm someone with words that are NOT swear words and while I curse more than I should, I also believe (and have taught my children) about filters, and being mindful of your words, environment, and audience.

i am far less bothered by vulgarity than I am by holier-than-thou prissiness. I'm far from prissy. That's name calling and sexist. I'm a prude because I don't like the reading the f-word on a scrapbooking board? First do you realize that you are in the non scrapbooking section of this board and secondly your Op is condescending and of putting.

This is the NSBR, a lovely mix of threads that are anything but scrapbooking related and occasionally evoke strong responses where a touch a of vulgarity creeps in and isn't always out of place. Word has it you don’t hear conservatives use vulgar language here because they almost all have been chased away and there are mostly liberals left. Fewer conservatives around means fewer conservatives to swear. I think this should have been a poll though.

Vulgar does not equal a lack of good vocabulary or laziness. It shows the character of the speaker, not their education or work ethic. Excellent point! What does this tell us about the character of those that choose vulgarity over knowledge or effort? Are they amoral? Amoral? I'm only on page 2 but I should probably stop reading now. Again, I hate to reflect again on my ex-husband, but he sat in church every week, and on Sunday was someone I didn't recognize. The man I saw sitting in the pew and singing in the choir was not the same man that I lived with Monday - Saturday. It got so bad that I quit going to church with him long before our divorce because it made me literally sick to sit near him and see him be someone I knew he wasn't. He also hates bad language. But the implication that he's somehow better or more moral than I is laughable.

Although my posting is very much less frequent than it once was, I'll be happy to take care of the swearing to cover several of those missing on the right. Just doing what I can...because I'm a team player and all that.

I used to be able to cuss a blue streak like the best of them, and then I had a kid. Since I didn’t want her to get called into the principal’s office for using inappropriate language at school, I’ve since dialed it way, way, WAY back. I generally don’t use vulgar language on here or elsewhere online. The funny thing is, my DH used to get on me for swearing needlessly back before we had our kid. Now he’s the one that she typically calls out for using the naughty words, LOL. HOWEVER!! If you have dropped something super heavy on your foot or smashed your thumb with a hammer though, all bets are off! Then I would say you are well within your rights to say whatever you will.ETA: My friend told me once that her DH’s great aunt or someone didn’t like cursing and so she would say, “Cheese and Rice!” or “Lord, Love a Duck!” So now those are my go-to’s, along with “Son of a Sock Puppet!” which I picked up from another friend. They've done a study, people who curse can endure more pain than those who substitute curse words. I heard about it on The Poundstone Institute Podcast. It was funny and fascinating at the same time. SaveThat must be why I curse doing crossfit

My mother was the most godly woman I know and led the women's Bible study and many of the other women's groups in church. She was on the phone 1/2 the day taking notes for prayer chains. She graduated from college and was a teacher until they told her she had to quit because she could get pregnant. I learned all of my best cusses from her (never the Lord's name). Even my dad couldn't say a few of those words and he was a great cusser and a Republican. I think it just depends on your upbringing and what you want to portray to the world. One study will say that people who cuss are lazy or uneducated and the next one says exactly the opposite. Who knows?

It's so sad that you have to come onto the board and bait people for, what, attention? Because that's exactly what you're doing. You're being a blatant troll. Did you not get enough attention when you were a kid?

First, those damn conservatives complain that liberals are too f#cking educated and that higher education leads to liberalism.
Now, the OP swears that she and her momma know, for a fact, that liberals are uneducated and that’s why they swear.
Which is it?
Finally, who ever freaking believed that the mother-f&cking President of the United F#cking States would be held to a LOWER standard than the peas for the sake of the stupidest argument ever made on this board?

Exactly. The more conservative leaning folks are being quiet while the others are cursing/name calling. Is that helpful here or anywhere? Check my post history. I lean socially liberal, fiscally conservative. I'm a woman without a party, so maybe I don't fit your definition of conservative. I never said the f word until I was married. I didn't know or understand the meaning of the word cunt until I had two children. I was sheltered. I like to think I'm making up for the youthful indiscretions I never committed. I wish everyone...no matter their economic status...could speak (& post) with grace and courtesy. You have less than 400 posts. Start participating on threads, discuss the topic, and show us how it's done.

We had a famous conservative (lynlam) who used to call posters dipshits when she didn't like what they had to say. It made me laugh, in a cringy way. We also had a bible poster (sky) who never cursed but she was incredibly condescending and ugly. So, idk, cursing and disgusting behavior has always been around, from most of us, honestly.
Did I answer your question? I'm curious about the point you're trying to make.
