Are liberals more vulgar? My mother, a (non-unionized) teacher used to say it was the sign of a poor vocabulary. Or is it just being lazy?

Is this for real? I know a lot of really potty-mouthed conservatives and plenty of people who are well educated but choose to be vulgar so I'm going to say no.

If you think this is true that liberals are more vulgar, you should spend a day with a bunch of God and country military boys and hear their language. Some people swear and others don't, I don't think you can draw any other conclusions than that and I wish you good luck with this thread.

how does political leanings connect with vocabulary or vulgarity? I consider myself both liberal AND well-read, with a pretty extensive vocabulary, and I very rarely use swear words / vulgarities in my language (unless I'm really mad). I think over-using vulgarity is perhaps lazy when there are so many more specific words that can be used, but that's maybe because I don't like vulgarity in general-- for that reason. In certain circumstances, though, I do think vulgarities are the most apt words. Yeah, she write. Fo shure. I don't know words much and lazy so can't learn more so say shit allot. Gotta go and sell my WIC vouchers so i can buy some smokes. Yay democrats for giving me fancy cars & nails on welfare! HAHAHAHA!! I do have to ding you for a misspelling, though- you wrote "yeah, she write" and it should be "yeah, she rite."

I guess it depends on your definition of vulgar, then.

I'm still trying to figure out what being liberal or conservative has to do with vocabulary or vulgarity. Am I missing something? How does that make any difference? I'm confused.

Are liberals more dramatic? I didn't accuse you of being a welfare fraud, just cursing/getting louder when your argument isn't going well. Lots of people who know better but revert to vulgarity.

I swear I was NOT doing any kind of stalking, but I did see some swearing in the thread about teachers' strikes when I was reading it just now... Perhaps that's what brought up the question? eta: I thought busy's post was funny, not dramatic-- I guess I have an odd sense of humor these days.

Seriously??!? I work with a group of guys who all identify as Republican and sweet lord, do they cuss. Did you realize that the f-bomb can substitute for every part of the English language? Noun, verb adverb adjective, interjection . . . Me, the left-winger, rarely curse at work. But when I do, they listen

Anything not helpful or kind. I don't count this in the definition of 'vulgar' personally. So that does change my outlook on what you say you're seeing on the board. Although I'm speaking only from my personal outlook and how I write / speak, not talking about anyone else.

Lots of people who know better but revert to vulgarity. For the love of Pete. Your OP was nothing but broad, rude generalizations about a large segment of the population. I just tossed in a few of the common tropes that are frequently bandied about by those who espouse similar sentiments to those in your OP. Of course you have no intention of having any kind of discussion here, you just wanted to insult some people, so I'm not sure what kind of responses you expected to get.

I personally don't think calling someone an idiot is helpful, but it's not vulgar. Still lots of vulgar voices here. Let's define it. How about anything that refers to a sexual act?

When I'm reading Facebook it tends to be the groups with a younger population. Some of my dog groups are very pleasant with very little cursing. But there are other groups that are cursing in just about every post. Usually AF/WTF or some variation of those spelled out. I wondered why and have noticed it's the groups with younger admins or majority of younger (18-30 yr olds) people.
It felt like we had a while when people were cursing a lot here, but when I stopped reading the political threads so I stopped noticing it. Maybe that is where you are seeing it most and why you think it's a specific group. But the board it definitely more liberal now, so that would also explain why it seems like liberals more then conservatives. I don't hear many conservatives speaking up so if they are here, we probably don't identify them as such.

I used to be able to cuss a blue streak like the best of them, and then I had a kid. Since I didn’t want her to get called into the principal’s office for using inappropriate language at school, I’ve since dialed it way, way, WAY back. I generally don’t use vulgar language on here or elsewhere online. The funny thing is, my DH used to get on me for swearing needlessly back before we had our kid. Now he’s the one that she typically calls out for using the naughty words, LOL. HOWEVER!! If you have dropped something super heavy on your foot or smashed your thumb with a hammer though, all bets are off! Then I would say you are well within your rights to say whatever you will. ETA: My friend told me once that her DH’s great aunt or someone didn’t like cursing and so she would say, “Cheese and Rice!” or “Lord, Love a Duck!” So now those are my go-to’s, along with “Son of a Sock Puppet!” which I picked up from another friend.

Take a quick look at the posts on this board. What posts have swearing on them? I find the Ps don't really swear on threads. They all say they swear like sailors, but don't really post swear words. All except shelley I see in this thread, but normally I don't see it much here at all?

The more conservative leaning folks are being quiet while the others are cursing/name calling. Is that helpful here or anywhere? True political discussion shouldn't include vulgar diatribes. It's a shame we've come to expect it.

I'm still trying to figure out what being liberal or conservative has to do with vocabulary or vulgarity. Am I missing something? How does that make any difference? I'm confused. Just check political posts. I'm pointing out that it appears liberal peas use more vulgarities in their posts than others. So far we've identified vulgarities as curse words or words that refer to a sexual act.
