But can you swear in those languages? THAT is the question. (I can swear in 5, but am always open to expanding my knowledge. ) I can’t in Mandarin unfortunately. I never had good Chinese friends who would teach me. How are yours in Arabic? Mine are pretty outstanding! I just learned a new French one yesterday!

It's a shame you haven't used any profanities OP, you might be looking a little more intelligent right now!

Are liberals more vulgar? My mother, a (non-unionized) teacher used to say it was the sign of a poor vocabulary. Or is it just being lazy? Yeah, she write. Fo shure. I don't know words much and lazy so can't learn more so say shit allot. Gotta go and sell my WIC vouchers so i can buy some smokes. Yay democrats for giving me fancy cars & nails on welfare! I think I love you 😀

I guess it depends on your definition of vulgar, then. Anything I wouldn't say in front of my mother. [...] Well, scheiße, merde and mierda ! I learned some of my best words from that woman Does that mean we're both a bit slow, or does it mean I can use more profanities before I become vulgar?

The answer is yes, in general. However, we spell better, and have fewer grammatical errors.

I'm sorry you're antagonistic and rude. You just don't like being called out as racist. I may not be funny either, but I'm not rude or vulgar. Just a bit persnickety and smug.

Excellent point! What does this tell us about the character of those that choose vulgarity over knowledge or effort? Are they amoral? Amoral? I'm only on page 2 but I should probably stop reading now. Again, I hate to reflect again on my ex-husband, but he sat in church every week, and on Sunday was someone I didn't recognize. The man I saw sitting in the pew and singing in the choir was not the same man that I lived with Monday - Saturday. It got so bad that I quit going to church with him long before our divorce because it made me literally sick to sit near him and see him be someone I knew he wasn't. He also hates bad language. But the implication that he's somehow better or more moral than I is laughable. Careful, Jenny! You’re beginning to sound like a liberal

No. This board may have more liberals or the liberals here may be more vocal, but walk over to a board that is conservative. There I might write "Are conservatives more racist?" Oh. Wait.

Our parrot swore at the vet when he took her blood. A great big F@cK. I think she is brilliant for using the word correctly and appropriately. I think your bird is smart as fuck. Speaking of pets, one of the (many) terms of endearment I have for my cat is FuckFuck. Although I do love her greatly, she is still so very busy and at times, is most exhausting.

Aren’t liberals over educated, rich, white, urban elites? That’s what was bandied about in the last election.

In my recent experience rich assholes are way way more vulgar than poor people. Ymmv I wish everyone...no matter their economic status...could speak (& post) with grace and courtesy. Speaking of linguistics, I think I’ve determined who you are in your other incarnation on this board. Your style and manner of speech is very specific. Why do you post under two different names when both express similar opinions?

Fuck, fuck, fuck. Fuck, I don't know any other fucking words. Fuck. Were you a victim of poor parenting or unionized teaching? You really have it out for Unions and teachers don't you?? How about you tell us what you do for a living so we can criticize you. For crying out loud..Grow up already. You could get your point across about the poor vocabulary on this board without attacking us who are teachers and unionized.

I can also swear like a sailor, but don't do that at my teaching job, where I happen to be a member of the (sadly non-bargaining) union.

College educated: check Pretty well read: check Middle of the road politically: check
Swears like a sailor: oh fuck yeah, check
Look, I am one of those that when you meet me, you would think that I am this sweet, very southern, very reserved lady. But upon occasion, I can string those curse words together with a verve that makes my solider son laugh.
I also told my kids that before you can use the fun curse words, you had to learn how to express yourself without them because there is a time and a place and you need to have a vocabulary to draw on in differing situations.
So to sum up: I am not linguistically lazy, nor does my sometimes potty mouth reflect on my moral character. I am college educated, I am a voracious reader who acts as the unofficial wordsmith and editor of my office. Politically, I am socially liberal and fiscally conservative so you can't check off those boxes.
And if you want to judge me because I dropped the f-bomb then I suspect that reflects a tad more on you than me.

Not amoral, but usually a lack of good judgment. Oh what the hell? My judgement is quite fine thank you very much. You know, when I typed that out last night I told myself I should explain a little better but I was in a hurry and didn't have the time. What I meant @megmc was that often the "lack of good judgment" that I personally have seen/heard when people use vulgar language is- when there are children around, at the work place, in front of customers/clients, etc. They can end up making themselves look foolish, out of control, etc. (usually when they are very angry about something and express it with vulgarity instead of using regular words) I certainly didn't mean a lack of good judgment in all areas of their lives! Hopefully that makes sense. If not, I apologize again as it's 6:30 am my time. Maybe I should just use better judgment in what time I pea!

If you are more concerned with vulgar language than with caring about humanity, respecting all cultures and people, and taking care of the planet, bless your heart.

I used to be able to cuss a blue streak like the best of them, and then I had a kid. Since I didn’t want her to get called into the principal’s office for using inappropriate language at school, I’ve since dialed it way, way, WAY back. I generally don’t use vulgar language on here or elsewhere online. The funny thing is, my DH used to get on me for swearing needlessly back before we had our kid. Now he’s the one that she typically calls out for using the naughty words, LOL. HOWEVER!! If you have dropped something super heavy on your foot or smashed your thumb with a hammer though, all bets are off! Then I would say you are well within your rights to say whatever you will.ETA: My friend told me once that her DH’s great aunt or someone didn’t like cursing and so she would say, “Cheese and Rice!” or “Lord, Love a Duck!” So now those are my go-to’s, along with “Son of a Sock Puppet!” which I picked up from another friend. They've done a study, people who curse can endure more pain than those who substitute curse words. I heard about it on The Poundstone Institute Podcast. It was funny and fascinating at the same time. SaveMaybe that explains the perceived "liberal vulgarity," because we have certainly endured quite a bit of pain in the past 10 months. (DEAR GOD IT HAS NOT EVEN BEEN A FULL YEAR WHAT EVEN IS THIS.)

My kids were like, "We've arrived!" LOL

First, those damn conservatives complain that liberals are too f#cking educated and that higher education leads to liberalism. Now, the OP swears that she and her momma know, for a fact, that liberals are uneducated and that’s why they swear. Which is it? Finally, who ever freaking believed that the mother-f&cking President of the United F#cking States would be held to a LOWER standard than the peas for the sake of the stupidest argument ever made on this board? Preach.

I'm far from prissy. That's name calling and sexist. I'm a prude because I don't like the reading the f-word on a scrapbooking board? You've wandered onto the wrong board. This is the NSBR, a lovely mix of threads that are anything but scrapbooking related and occasionally evoke strong responses where a touch a of vulgarity creeps in and isn't always out of place. SaveSaveNope, been here for years. And even on the old board. A "touch" of vulgarity doesn't creep in when someone's argument goes south. It's the go-to.
