I take mine off when I cook or wash my hands because I can't stand the feeling of wet rings on my hands. And sometimes if my hands are swollen.

I almost never take mine off... Usually only when I'm making meatballs. DH never takes his off either. Moisture got under mine last year and it caused an issue on my finger. I had to take it off for a few weeks while it healed and I felt so naked without it.

I don't take mine off unless my hands are going to get messy. DH took his off once and lost it. Laid it on the counter and it disappeared, we never found it. He went a few years without one and 2 years ago we finally got it replaced.

I don't currently wear mine. I can't wear it for my job, and going by past history I'm more likely to lose it taking it on and off all the time. I keep it in a safe place at home.

I have not worn mine in many years. This is awful, but I went through a time where I was embarrassed by it...all the women in the family have much bigger diamonds. Then, I ended up gaining weight and that kept me from wearing it. My DH lost his first one in the Ocean. His second one had to be cut off when he had a sudden weight gain while on a medication. He has since lost the weight but never got the ring fixed. Off subject, all of you saying you take them off to work with ground meat...I always worried that traces of raw meat ended up under or around my fingernails so I would use a scrub brush and bleach when cleaning my hands after making meatballs or such. I now keep a box of food prep gloves. They are great when cooking or crafting something icky. They are impractical, that's for sure! I think the wearing of them will phase out eventually.

I wash my hands quite a bit. I am not so good at putting lotion on every time I do that. The skin under my ring starts to get dry and itchy, so most often I don't wear my ring.

I haven't taken my wedding ring of in 21 years and my engagement ring in 23 except for an hour for gall bladder surgery. I do wear gloves when handling raw meat. I would be to afraid I would lose them if I kept taking them off and on.
DH lost his at work at about year 2 of our marriage and we have never replaced it as for safety he probably shouldn't wear it.

I don't wear mine at all. a messed up thyroid helped me gain quite a bit of weight in a small time so my ring doesn't fit. I don't want to resize unless my weight loss fails long term

I didn’t used to, but, aboit a year ago I started developing a rash under my wedding ring. It gets really red and starts to peel, so, I have had to take it off for months at a time to heal. DH always wears his. My dad never did. He was very faithful, but, didn’t wear his ring. Erin Me too. The blistering spread to my other fingers. So no more ring. I had to cut my engagement off and I never got that fix. My husband's is too small for him now.

neither of us wear them. haven't in years. DH is a contractor and i just don't like any rings on my fingers (i don't wear any jewellery at all). MIL commented on it every time she would babysit when the kids were younger and we were going out. she would say "you look so nice merrick, your wedding rings would dress it up a bit". only to me though, not DH.

We both wear them and take them off for crossfit (him), putting on lotion (both) or drying hair (me). Otherwise they are on all the time. We chose rings that are decorated bands, and even my engagement ring is a band, so they'd be safe from the various things we do with our hands.
Awhile back I watched an older woman (70s at least) put lotion on right over her rings, and they were ornate, tall rings with stones sticking out everywhere - I was amazed. Do people commonly do this? I guess I thought it would make them slick and kind of nasty over time, but then, they do get washed a lot every day.

DH always wears his. My dad never did. He was very faithful, but, didn’t wear his ring. Erin If it's not irritation from getting irritants trapped under the rings, it sounds like Contact Dermatitis from the metals in the rings. I have white gold wedding rings and a few years ago I developed a rash under my rings. My doctor had me get an OTC Hydrocortisone product. It took a few weeks but it cleared up. I started wearing my rings again and it flared up again. My doctor told me that it's not totally without possibility that I had developed an allergy to the nickel in the white gold. I went to a jeweler who said that they see white gold allergic reactions fairly often. Sometime an allergic reaction to the nickel can occur years later due to normal wear on the ring. People who never or rarely remove their rings for washing, showering, or sweating can develop irritation. They recommend I have my rings plated with rhodium. It's been several years now and I've had no further problems with my wedding set. To answer the OP: DH doesn't wear his to work for both safety and fear of loss reasons. (He's already lost a wedding ring.) I wear mine at home most of the time but NOT when cleaning, washing dishes, yard work, showering. Neither one us wear ours to bed. I have prong set diamonds that would scratch, plus my hands swell. In addition, I take a shower every morning, so I'd just have to take them off. We also take them off for going golfing, bicycling, that type of thing. We both wear ours when we leave the house for errands, going to dinner, etc.

Always, I scratched him with my diamond and he accidentally hit me with his ring, lol So rings come off the minute we walk in the house, kept in the same place always and worn whenever we leave the house. Has worked for us for 47 years

I put mine on when I leave the house, and take it off when I get home. When I upgraded on 30th anniversary I just got a single ring, a solitaire with baguettes. My DH took his off when we got back from our honeymoon 50 years ago and hasn't put it back on yet.

I only wear mine when I leave the house. Nerve damage in my hand makes any constant pressure very painful.

I take mine off as soon as I go upstairs, usually not long after I get home. Dh hasn’t worn his in years and it is nowhere to be found. It doesn’t bother me a bit that he doesn’t wear one.

My original wedding/engagement set was getting too tight and it had already been sized up as far as the jeweler felt comfortable. So for our 30th I bought myself a new three diamond ring and dh a titanium ring. He didn't wear his ring for a long time and now he is retired and wears it, I guess he was worried of damage during his jobs.

I leave mine on. Well, I don't actually wear my original set. I wear a single sapphire that my ds picked out when he was 2. I was tired of a gold band so I made the change. Dh lost his about 4-5 years ago on our way to Hawaii. I guess I don't really pay attention because I didn't notice for a year or more.

I rarely wear my ring anymore. For the first few years I did but would remove it as soon as I walked in the door. I don't like having jewelry on for too long. DH doesn't wear his either.

With my first marriage. No. I'd wear DH's on a necklace every day as well. He only wore it a couple times a year. The only time mine came off is if I was doing something messy. Then I'd put them on the necklace until I was done

We don't take our rings off most of the time. My engagement ring does come off if the size of it makes me nervous about something. Travel, cleaning, kitchen work, catching on babies, or hurting people are all possibilities. After my DD was born I was worried my ring would scratch her and I was washing my hands a million times a day anyway so I never had them resized, plus I didn’t have the money to do it. Now I could afford to get them resized but it’s been so long that I just haven’t bothered to do it. Maybe in a couple years for our 30th we’ll both go get wedding ring tattoos. I did take my engagement off for a while after I realized that it was getting hooked on my firstborn's tiny arms. So when her sibling was born I had it off right away. After a year or two I put it back on. When we were newly married his ring slipped off his hand in the ocean at Oregon Inlet in NC and we were sure it was lost forever but after battling the waves and sifting thru the sand when he caught a glimpse of something shiny he found it. We were AMAZED. We just had a similar situation in our own woods. We were walking through with a logger and my husband was holding our 4-year-old in his arms. When he shifted her, he felt it slip off his finger. He didn't spot it right away so he marked the area he thought it fell off with sticks and we went back after the logger left. We didn't find it that time. He tried again a couple of days later and found it about an inch from one of those sticks! LOL We both wear our wedding bands which are both plain gold as was popular 45 years ago when we married. I still ill love my engagement ring which is a beautiful solitaire diamond in gold which I no longer wear ask it is a little worn (so the jeweller says) so I wear a beautiful diamond anniversary band and a ruby set band (40 years). These two rings I take off at home but not my wedder. A jewelry store employee mentioned wear on my engagement ring the last time I had it cleaned. They were suggesting welding the engagement ring to my wedding ring but I'm not sure I want them together like that so I still have them separate. I'll keep and eye on the wear situation though. If it's not irritation from getting irritants trapped under the rings, it sounds like Contact Dermatitis from the metals in the rings. I have white gold wedding rings and a few years ago I developed a rash under my rings. My doctor had me get an OTC Hydrocortisone product. It took a few weeks but it cleared up. Erin Oh darn tenacious, I was going to suggest platinum as a solution because it's worked for me so far. I knew I reacted to 18K gold before we got married so we went with platinum as an alternate metal. Now I'm wondering if eventually I'll develop the same issue to platinum too!

We never take our wedding rings off. When we were looking for our rings, we went for buy gold rings online for cheap . So if anyone of us loses a wedding ring, it's easy and inexpensive to replace. My wedding band is a symbol of our love and commitment — this is one thing I literally never take off!

We don't wear ours. We each took them off when we separated in 2002. We have a different, and better, marriage now and the rings just don't seem to feel right anymore.
Plus they're a pain when you're washing hands all day at work, so I don't miss them at all.

We don't wear ours. I took mine off when I was swelling when pregnant with DS (he's now 14) and never put them back on. DH wore his until his fingers started swelling from chemo so he doesn't wear his either.

I wear mine only when I go out. Not at home, doing outside work, swimming or things where it can be damaged.
Eta: Don't wear it to the gym either.

DH hasn't worn his in years. He worked as a nurse for a long time and couldn't, and now he has arthritis and a host of other issues that make his fingers swell. I haven't taken mine off except to clean it in a long time.
