This is pretty cool. It shows you which regions of the U.S. are most similar to your pronunciation of a word and at the end it shows you the "big picture." tinyurl.com/y9hof97uMy dialect did not match any of the places where I have lived.

Mine was spot on, too! Two of the three cities are in my home state within two hours from where I actually live.

Nope. It said I was from Madison Wisconsin. I am from upstate ny.
I think the problem was how I would have pronounced something when I was young and how I pronounce it now.
Like crawdad and crayfish. Heck my grandmother called them mudpuppies.
In Montana , it is a frontage road, but I didn't know that when I was young. So how do you answer that question?

The three cities I matched closets to I have never been to or lived near. But, the area that I grew up had a warm orange color so while it wasn't exactly right, it wasn't completely off either.

Mine was spot on too. Wow, that was amazing. It nailed the city where I live. I've only lived in two cities and they are close (50 miles apart). I'm guessing if you frequently move the answer might be less accurate.

mine was all over the place which probably matches my accent/dialect pretty closely...I have an English accent (BBC English for the most part - my father worked hard to cleanse his accent of his working class origins) overlaid with New England (RI/Mass) and some Southern (FL) mixed in.

I have heard that you develop your adult accent at age 12, so I am not at all surprised that I got Baltimore because I moved to that area when I was 12. I also got some regions of New York and that's where I lived prior to moving to Baltimore.
When I was 18 I never moved back to either of the places so this really is a good test!
I took a more detailed one once and the two places were even more specific than those I listed above - that was amazing.

It put me in Texas and Arkansas, I live in Oklahoma. But to be fair I'm a Army Brat and lived all over the world.

City 1 is in my home state. Cities 2 and 3 are within a two hour drive of where I currently live, one on each side of the WI/IL border. Makes sense.

Wow not even close. Have lived in Southern California since birth. Everyone I know says the words the same way. All Ca natives.

My three cities were Chattanooga, TN; Birmingham, AL; and Columbus, GA. Have not spent any appreciable time in any of them. BUT, I was born and lived in FL till I was 10, then lived in KY for 30+ years, and then moved to NC. So I think the results are fairly accurate given all that.

Wow. My cities were Rochester and Buffalo. I live in Syracuse but grew up midway between Syracuse and Rochester.
That's impressive

Mine was all over, with most answers not matching much at all. But I'm an Air Force wife and we have lived all over the US and overseas. The only area I haven't lived is in the Pacific Northwest, but I've visited there.
Basically, I'm a mutt and I have no home.

It gave me Rockford IL, Des Moines, IA and Toledo OH. I have not lived in any of those. The closest one of those is over 500 miles away.

Interesting. Mine were Arlington (VA, not Texas), Baltimore, and Denver! lol. I do live in Northern Virginia so Arlington and Baltimore are good. But I've only been on vacation to Denver. I grew up in Pittsburgh and have absolutely none of the Pittsburgh-ese that marks someone as being from some areas of Western PA. I went to school in New England and didn't pick up any of those either ("bubbler" for example). So I'm not sure what I am. lol

This came out exactly right (Houston/New Orleans). They are answers to 2 questions which are unique to both cities, so this didn't surprise me at all.

What I want to know is where do they pronounce "important" like "impordant"? I have heard that a few times lately on podcasts and it drives me crazy.

I got the town I live in now. I think my accent is somewhere between here and New Orleans....I doubt this gets as specific as the MS Gulf Coast.
