As some of y'all know, I've been a trauma nurse for a few years. On 1/9, at 1900, I will retire my trauma scrubs and will be trading them in for some new nurse practitioner scrubs. I'm saying goodbye to my beloved Level 1 trauma center in the heart of town and one mile from my home, and saying hello to a new ER. I'm kind of sad to be leaving but so excited to begin a new career as an NP. I will definitely miss being at the bedside for all the traumas, cardiac arrests and bones sticking out, but I will certainly not miss the drop-off overdose patients, the drunks, nor the 2-3 times per day regulars. The new gig is at a hospital w/in my current system so I won't have a new charting system to learn and several of the same docs work at both facilities but learning a brand new role will be a challenge. I'm SO ready to take the next step and this is the perfect ER and situation for me to spread my wings a little bit.
I'm pretty excited to be a provider and learn some new tricks! I've heard nothing but amazing things about the new ER and cannot wait to start! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Congratulations, that's wonderful! One of my best medical providers, ever, was a nurse practitioner. I loved her. Good luck! You'll be great.

Congratulations! I’m so proud of you. The NP that was on dh’s case was an amazing combination of knowledge and compassion. Our doc was one of those guys who was brilliant and many times, we didn’t know what the heck he was talking about.
The NP was a wonderful interpreter who made us feel she had all the time in the world. She listened to every question, every concern, every everything. She calmed us and instilled confidence in us. The nurses all had the utmost respect for her, they shared with me the many hours and years it took for her to become a NP.
I’m really proud of you.
