Oh ffs, he didn't poison them, he fed them fast food. No one forced them to eat it, much create piles of it on their plate and eat it. It was one meal in their life, not a lifetime regimen and they weren't politely picking at it while waiting to go out and fill up on healthy steak and lobster. If I were an invited guest to the WH, I would feel obligated to eat what they served, out of politeness and respect. So you attend a lunch at the WH expecting to be fed. I agree with you that it’s just one meal, but it’s really the optics of the whole situation. As a supporter of college athletics, you would want to support their efforts through decent nutrition If they felt obligated to eat it, it would have been plates with A single burger and maybe some fries. OR a single slice of pizza, maybe 2. Not plates piled with excessive amounts of food like we saw. Those aren't the plates of people eating the bare minimum of "poison to their athletic bodies" those are people enjoying the hell out of that dinner at the White House and the honor it was. Because they earned it. I agree it is about the optics, but we both know there was no way for him to win. If he had his hotel cater as some here are suggesting he should have done, those same people would have tore him up for doing that and "profiting". If he would have served them steak and lobster or anything "fitting of dinner at the White House"... he would have been crucified for being so decatant during the shutdown. We we all know that no matter what he chose to do, people would have bitched about it. And not different people depending on which he did, but the same people, no matter what he chose (and we know this based on previous statements- years of them)

The same mentality that fact checked the statement "the burgers were piled a mile high". Some journalist hack thought that needed to be fact checked. Let that sink in.

The Republican Senators who voted with Democrats were John Boozman of Arkansas; Susan Collins of Maine; Tom Cotton of Arkansas; Steve Daines of Montana; Cory Gardner of Colorado; Josh Hawley of Missouri; John Kennedy of Louisiana; Martha McSally of Arizona; Jerry Moran of Kansas; Marco Rubio of Florida, and Ben Sasse of Nebraska. gardner is up for reelection in 2020. He is also staying we need to end the shutdown and then look for wall funding I wonder how many of the others who voted for this are up for reelection

Karen and Mike Pence's astonishing moral hypocrisyBy Clay Cane opinion Updated 12:21 AM ET, Thu January 17, 2019 Listen to what else the pledge says: "I understand that the term 'marriage' has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive covenant union as delineated in Scripture." It asserts that God intended sexual acts only between "a man and a woman who are married to each other." It identifies "moral misconduct" that would disqualify employees as premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex, homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female." This language is disgusting and insults millions of taxpaying American citizens, many who have served their country. That it is acceptable to the wife of the man who is a heartbeat away from the presidency should horrify and alarm all Americans. Karen and Mike Pence are conservative, evangelical Christians who share beliefs about religion and politics. They have every right to do this. ("It's absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school's religious beliefs, are under attack," said Kara Brooks, a spokeswoman for Pence.) But consider Mike Pence's position of power in this country: He regularly stands shoulder to shoulder with his boss, Donald Trump. He has access to and can influence a President who is very interested in maintaining support among evangelicals. For all their professed beliefs, Pence, and his wife, show unwavering support for a man who has been married three times, divorced twice, has had five children with three women and who has been accused of (though denies) paying a porn star and a Playboy model hundreds of thousands of dollars to conceal affairs he'd had with them. The hypocrisy here, and indeed from white evangelical Trump supporters, is astonishing. As of April, white evangelical support for Trump was at an all-time high: 75%. Disturbingly, as he left the White House, President Barack Obama enjoyed the favorable view of only 24% of white evangelicals. Obama, a man who had no sex scandals, was never accused of sexual harassment, had two children with the same woman, couldn't crack 25% white evangelicals. Of course, race is a huge reason, but Hillary Clinton only received 16% of the white evangelical vote. For white evangelicals, it appears to be Trump over country -- and Karen Pence is a glowing example. ** It comes down to this: If the Pences love their God so much, then they would not sit in a White House with a man who shows no moral compass and said he never asks for forgiveness. They would be on the White House lawn, with the King James Bible in hand, disavowing a President who is a horrible representation for our children. If Karen Pence loves "moral purity," she would have denounced Melania Trump for — for example -- posing naked and in handcuffs for a men's magazine when she worked as a model. If she and her husband want to sign a pledge of moral purity, they should first hand it to the President of the United States for his own signature. ** Mike and Karen Pence, where is your Jesus? ** More at link: www.cnn.com/2019/01/16/opinions/karen-pence-evangelical-hypocrisy-clay-cane/

linkFrom Newsweek... ”Gun rights advocate sues Trump administration over bump stock ban trib.al/nfpiZ4g” From the article... “Clark Aposhian, chairman of the Utah Shooting Sports Council, a gun rights organization, filed the lawsuit against the Trump administration in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, according to KTSU. In the lawsuit, he argued that banning bump stocks makes criminals out of people who previously acquired the firearm accessory legally.” Then dipshit, get rid of the “accessory”. Why would any responsible gun owner need an “accessory” that turns a gun into a machine gun? I mean really.

This article, which originally appeared in the Christian Science Monitor, outlines the difference pretty clearly. The problem, as I see it, with people like the Pences hiding their personal political beliefs behind religious orothodoxy, is that it allows people with those beliefs (like wedding cake bakers, or "religious" private schools) to attempt to circumvent anti-discrimination laws with an argument for religious freedom. I don't think we should be allowing religious freedom exemptions for people who apparently only carry out the discriminatory or oppressive aspects of the religion they claim to follow.

From the article.............How is 25% of the population allowed so much say?!?!?! Perhaps they make up a bigger percentage of those who actually turn out to vote. This exactly. Nationwide voter turnout was around 50% in 2016. Trump was was elected with slightly less than half of that - about 24% of people of voting age put him in office. Turnout has to be a huge focus in 2020. We can't continue to let a small minority of Americans decide something so important.

Toddler Trump is at it again.
He has notified Speaker Pelosi that he has canceled her upcoming official trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan unless she wants to fly commercial. He claims that this need to cancel her 'public relations' trip is due to the shutdown. However it was a long schedued fat finding trip.
However, his cabinet and lackeys are all continuing their official travel. And it seems rather underhanded to reveal that she was scheduled to go into a war zone Seems like once again he revealed top secret information. and that this is tit for tat for her request that he delay his State of the Union.

Trump is running television ads asking people to call 800-350-6647 and press 1 to demand Schumer and Pelosi fund the wall.
Buried at the end 'press 2 if you do not support the wall'.
Friends just press 2.

Keith Boykin...
”Trump's Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin just got back from Cabo San Lucas during the shutdown and now Mnuchin, Mike Pompeo and Wilbur Ross are headed to Davos for a trip. Maybe Trump can explain why Pelosi's trip to Afghanistan is canceled but his cabinet members' trip is not.”
Pelosi made sense to postpone the SOTU until the government was open.
trump is now coming across as petty, especially if Pence & company are not using commercial airlines to get to Davos.
