Beto has insisted that “we can reject the false choice between oil and gas and renewable energy.” The hill that we should all die on is climate change. Decision that are made today will determine the kind of world we leave for our kids, and their kids, and their kids. 100 years floods are happening more frequently. Forest fires have become fire storms, hurricanes are becoming more deadly. Glaciers are melting. Water is rising in the oceans threatening to drown coastal communities. Droughts happen more often and for longer periods of time. I think that we can no longer be wishy-washy on the subject of climate change. We need to act and act now because decisions that are made today will take years for them to be fully implemented. As such I don’t think someone who believes as Beto apparently does would be a good choice as president that we will need to move us forward on taking steps to combat climate change. As technology advances we can totally eliminate fossil fuels. Fuels that pollute the air and you know the rest. We need leaders that are open to this real possibility instead of saying it’s a false choice between gas/oil and renewable energy. Is any of this going to happen overnight? Nope, probably not in my life time. And I’m not saying we need to shut down all oil rigs the day after tomorrow either. What I am saying is we don’t need to open up any addition oil fields as we prepare, to sometime down the road, stop all oil drilling and coal mining as it’s replaced by clean renewable energy. That is the future and we need leaders that are going to lead us in that direction today and not sometime down the road. And I think this because I think we are running out of time. I will now get off my 🧼 📦. Us, but the current administration is 1000 times worse. If it takes baby steps to get there so be it. But Trump is determined to bleed America & the earth dry asap no matter the consequences. Yea, America first- first to be the polluted shithole beyond repair

trump this morning so far... ”We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with. Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!” ”The United States looses soooo much money on Trade with Mexico under NAFTA, over 75 Billion Dollars a year (not including Drug Money which would be many times that amount), that I would consider closing the Southern Border a “profit making operation.” We build a Wall or.....” ”close the Southern Border. Bring our car industry back into the United States where it belongs. Go back to pre-NAFTA, before so many of our companies and jobs were so foolishly sent to Mexico. Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border......” ”Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador are doing nothing for the United States but taking our money. Word is that a new Caravan is forming in Honduras and they are doing nothing about it. We will be cutting off all aid to these 3 countries - taking advantage of U.S. for years!” My God. He is such an idiot. He should be somebody's crazy grandpa sitting in the couch ranting like this, not the most powerful man in the world. why don’t we start by changing the law that you have to apply for asylum AT a point of entry. I mean if they could apply in their own country or a neighboring country then they wouldn’t need a caravan

dt has things to learn for this mom! Mollie Tibbetts's mother took in child of Mexican immigrants after murder suspect's arrestBY ARIS FOLLEY - 12/28/18 11:08 AM EST The mother of Mollie Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa college student who was allegedly murdered earlier this year by an immigrant residing the U.S. illegally, adopted the child of Mexican immigrants who fled town after the man accused of killing her daughter was arrested. Laura Calderwood told The Washington Post in an interview published Friday that she had taken in Ulises Felix, 17, after his parents fled town following Cristhian Bahena Rivera's arrest. Felix wanted to remain in Brooklyn, Iowa, to finish high school, according to the paper. Calderwood took in Felix in his parents' absence. He now lives with her son, Tibbetts’s younger brother, Scott. The Post reported that Felix's parents had worked alongside Rivera at the same dairy farm for years. Felix told the paper that his parents "took care of" Rivera "for a while," adding that his mother fed him every day. ** thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/423103-mollie-tibbetts-mother-takes-in-child-of-mexican-immigrants-whoNow this is empathy. This is Grace. For all those who think the so-called “Christians” on the right are authentic, THIS is what real Christianity is. THIS is what Jesus would do. Silly. Republican Jesus doesn't care about feeding the poor or welcoming the stranger. He only wants to hand out guns to all and control women's bodies.

Well, this seems like a great solution... NOT! Just another example of how out of touch these guys are:
The U.S. Office of Personnel Management on Thursday tweeted advice to furloughed federal workers on how to explain their precarious financial situation to creditors and landlords—including one sample letter with the suggestion that they offer to perform chores in exchange for rent payments. “I will keep in touch with you to keep you informed about my income status and I would like to discuss with you the possibility of trading my services to perform maintenance (e.g. painting, carpentry work) in exchange for partial rent payments,” one sample letter to a landlord read. The agency also urged workers to “please consult with your personal attorney” for any required legal advice amid the partial government shutdown, during which nearly 800,000 workers have either been furloughed or asked to work without pay. On Thursday night, prospects looked even grimmer as the House and Senate both adjourned for the weekend, guaranteeing the shutdown will continue until at least next week.

”GUN THREAT: A customer at a South Florida convenience store was allegedly so enraged by the price of cigarettes that he returned to the store waving a loaded rifle at the clerk. He is now facing an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. abcn.ws/2CAAqfp”
I saw this but wasn’t going to post it until I read this response by Fred Guttenberg, who lost a daughter in the Parkland mass shooting..
”This is what happens when people think there right to use an AR 15 outweighs our right to safety. Thankfully, nobody was killed. Just wondering NRA crowd, I think this guy should permanently lose his weapons and his right to own weapons in the future. What do you think?”

Chris Hayes May have the right idea..
“My only passionate take on the 2020 Democratic primary is voters should support and vote for candidates they feel passionate about and represent their values, worldview and politics, rather than attempt to game out who's "electable." Literally nobody knows.”

Does anyone else think that Nancy Pelosi could win a presidential election? I have never really considered her as a contender until today. I am watching a piece on her and I think she'd make a damned good president, but could she win? What if Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was her running mate?

Fred : regarding ignoring temper tantrums, my 2018 motto has simply been, "no air," meaning not to fan the flames by even discussing it. Give it darkness & silence and maybe it'll die off. One can hope!

She won’t meet the 35 yo requirement ( which I think applies to candidates for pres and VP, but I could be wrong). Even if she was old enough, she gets a big nope from me. She’s further left than Bernie, and a socialist (even a Democratic Socialist), will never get elected.

They proudly show that they are gun carriers. We are careful wherever we go. I even avoid stop lights if I can. So, YES, since he brandished a weapon out of anger, I'd say that he needs to have his weapons on ice for a while until he goes to anger management classes.

on both sides I agree with this. Many Democrats sat out or voted 3rd party because they wouldn't vote for Clinton. Ugh and that gave us trump. The thing about someone like Beto is there isn't the already ingrained hatred that there was for Clinton or is for Sanders, Pelosi, or Warren. Biden doesn't carry that hatred either. I wish he had ran in 2016. I know why he didn't and I respect that, but man... The thing is that right wing and Russian trolls are already starting to stir the hatred. You watch, they'll knock down the good candidates one at a time. We have to be smarter about this. We can't let Twitter choose our next candidate nor poison us against the best choice, whoever that may be. Totally agree. The gop/republican/trump bullshit was a successful DISINFORMATION campaign—and it worked.

No, but some would rather not provide additional funds that may be used to support Trump. Just like I avoid spending money at HL if I can find the item I need at another store b/c I don’t want to support the organizations that HL supports with their profits. I also avoid Chick-Fil-A because I don’t agree with the way they choose to spend their charitable dollars. I would never try to stop them from exercising their 1st Amendment rights, but I choose not to participate.

linkAnd yet another cost for the tax cuts for the 1%. Federal Nees Radio “Trump makes 2019 federal pay freeze official”
From the article.. “Federal employees, about to head into the second week of a partial government shutdown, received another piece of bad news on Friday evening: their pay will be frozen at 2018 levels for the entirety of next year. President Donald Trump had signaled his intent to hold the line on federal civilian pay in a letter to Congress in late August. But he made the freeze official in an executive order Friday. Official 2019 pay tables from the Office of Personnel Management released later that evening confirmed that base pay would remain at the same levels as 2018, as will locality pay rates across the country.” I especially like like this part of the story. “In his August message, the president wrote that his plan to freeze federal compensation was based on a desire to put the nation’s budget on a sound fiscal footing, and that the decision would “not materially affect our ability to attract and retain a well-qualified federal workforce.”

(considering the way he ran every one of his businesses into the ground and then declared bankruptcy multiple times. )

Add this in! Border closure could cost billionsBY NIV ELIS - 12/28/18 07:46 PM EST Closing the U.S. border with Mexico, which President Trump threatened to do in a Friday tweet if Democrats do not approve funding for his wall, could cost the economy billions of dollars, say analysts who have studied the issue. “It would affect the U.S. economy massively and very negatively,” said Chris Wilson, deputy director at The Wilson Center’s Mexico Institute, and the co-author of a study on the border economy. “There’s about a billion dollars of commerce that crosses the border every single day, so every day it’s closed we’re losing out on hundreds of millions of dollars,” he added. Trump threatened to close down the border as part of a broader fight with Democrats over building a border wall and funding the government. “We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” Trump wrote in the Friday tweet. Trump is demanding $5 billion to fund his wall in order to reopen the government, while Democrats say they will only support legislation that includes $1.6 for border security, including $1.3 billion for fencing. Mexico is America's third largest trade partner, and the two economies are deeply intertwined, with $558 billion in goods crossing the border in two-way trade last year alone. The Commerce Department estimated that in 2015, nearly 100,000 American jobs were supported by goods trade with Mexico. If the border were to be shut down, experts say, the consequences would be immediate. “The first thing you’d start to see is a spike in car prices and factories in trouble,” said Richard Miles, senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies’ Americas program. ** Many foods such as avocados, tomatoes, lettuce, celery and a variety of berries come to the United State by way of Mexico. “It’s winter, so we don’t produce a whole lot of fruits and vegetables in the United States. By and large we depend on Mexico to supply our grocery stores in the winter,” said Wilson, who estimated that some 70 percent of that produce comes into the U.S. by truck. Some of the states that would be the hardest hit by a border closure backed Trump in 2016. ** “There are almost a million legal crossings every single day. In Tijuana alone, it’s like 50,000 vehicles and 25,000 pedestrians. That’s day laborers, nannies, landscapers coming in, and the other way around. It’s services like architects to engineers to high-skilled labor,” said Miles. Around Thanksgiving this year, the government closed down the San Ysidro border crossing between San Diego and Tijuana for six hours, citing concern about migrants trying to rush the border. The San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce estimated that those six hours led to an estimated $5.3 million in losses for the local economy alone.*** thehill.com/policy/finance/423150-border-closure-could-cost-billions
