In the dishwasher? Apparently there was disagreement about this according to the candy cane thread, so I wondered where people stood on this topic.
I'm leaving to yes or no only. Yes means you have let an animal lick off your plate
No means you would not let one lick the plate.

not that I'm opposed to dogs licking, because they lick US all the time- but we don't let them lick the plates or dishes. They don't get any people food, and I don't want them getting any ideas. (they do TRY to lick the silverware when I'm loading the dishwasher, though-- lol!)

I said "no" because I have never let her lick our dirty plates. I do let her eat off the same plates we do and happily put those in the dishwasher to be cleaned after she is finished.

I will let my cats have scraps of stuff from our plates sometimes. I fail to see how it’s disgusting.
I also wash their food dishes in the dish washer every day.

I fail to see how it's disgusting, either- if they're going in the dishwasher, then they'll GET cleaned. What's disgusting about cat or dog spit? (other than it's super-slimy sometimes, but...) One of our dogs gets moistened kibble, and I just use one of our regular dishes to mix/moisten her food. The dishes get washed, and they go back in the cabinet. I don't keep a special 'dog dish' for her, separate from the others.

We all know I'm in a very dog-centric household But we do not let or have the dogs lick the plates before we put them in the dishwasher. They also don't eat table scraps.
We feed one dog raw that I prep a couple times a week, but he has his own plastic dishes that I use for that. I do not want someone thawing out his chicken foot or duck beak for me to cook for dinner
The dogs do like to supervise the loading of the dishwasher, but that is just them sitting in the kitchen with that wishful look on their faces as they watch the dishes being put into the dishwasher

I don’t think it is gross, but I voted no. We don’t feed him people food so I don’t want him to get a taste for it.

Drives me crazy She always sneaks one good lick in before I get her to stop

I don't think I'm at the same level as myshelly when it comes to cleanliness rules, but in this case, I agree.
(And, myshelly, if you are not the one with the sex towel and take-off-the-clothes-before-you-go-in-the-house rules, I apologize. My spreadsheet skills are definitely not awesome.)

My in-laws had “special” bowls for the cat stored in the cupboard with all their other dishware. I used one to eat cereal and they were appalled that I ate out of the animal bowl. First of all, they are all the same corelle dishes in the same cupboard, how would I possibly know the difference? Secondly they were clean. I don’t get it. Does cat food and cat spit permanently adhere to dishes?!?!

No. We don’t give our pets people food and I would be concerned that if we let them lick our plates it would encourage them to beg.
Our lab does get an ounce of chicken stock a day, diluted with water and I use one of our Fiestaware bowls for that. She doesn’t drink enough and had 2 UTIs last year. The vet recommended encouraging her to drink more with chicken broth. So far so good!

I said yes.
It's not something we do regularly but once in a great while dd will give the dog a plate with a people food treat on it. The dog eats the treat and then the plate goes in the dishwasher.

Does cat food and cat spit permanently adhere to dishes?!?! Exactly. And really most of us eat in restaurants. If you don't think dishwashers get the plates clean, think about all the germs you could get from people who have eaten off those plates previously. So do you not eat out?

I voted no.
My cats get wet cat food and a teaspoon of pumpkin in a dish that I wash in the dishwasher after every feeding.
They don’t get table scraps. I don’t want them getting a taste for “people” food and then think they can cruise the counter tops looking for a meal.

Yeah, they sometimes lick the dishes as I'm putting them in the dishwasher. I've been dressed down here for that before. *shrug*
Everything that goes through the dishwasher gets sanitized, and I don't see how dog spit is more gross than people spit, so whatever. If you're grossed out, you're not invited for dinner! 😂

you have the most interesting menagerie. LOL
I let our dogs lick off plates. We wash them, it's no big deal. Freaked my sister out though I think, she was staying with me a while and after she saw that she mysteriously went out and bought paper plates. haha. *shrug*

No. Our boys do not get people food, and we do not allow them to like dishes. Ick. Now do they try? Absolutely but they get a stern "leave it" and they leave the kitchen.

No, but mostly because there is so much food that is dangerous for them. It is more about pet safety then a ridiculous fear of cat cooties. My husband does share his otter pops with one of our cats, she only gets a few licks because of sugar, but go ahead and judge all you want! I do let them occasionally lick a yogurt spoon if one of the cats happen to be handy when I am eating plain yogurt.

I've also let them have a lick or two of a popsicle while I'm eating a fruit pop, and sometimes, they get ONE piece of popcorn each-- gotta be fair, and give one to each dog. I've also let the cats drink milk out of my glass before, too- more for the entertainment value of them trying to get their head into the glass, lol! (but that's a bad habit to get into, because then whenever I have milk, I also have a cat sitting on the chair hanging over my shoulder like a vulture.)

No. If we share a little people food with Molly we put it on a paper plate. It’s something we started when I used to hand wash our dishes. Now that we use our dishwasher they would be sanitized anyway. Just the idea of the dog eating off our dishes doesn’t appeal to me I guess. To each his own.

I voted no. I do think it’s a tad gross, but also agree that the dishwasher cycle sanitizers the dishes.
Our dog passed away last year, but was never really into people food. Our cats don’t care for it either...they are the luckiest cats I’ve ever owner. None of them were/are lickers.

Yep, sure do depending on what is on the plate. Overall I don't give her the plate but I do give her little nibbles of some food. We do have a special spoon just for her that she gets peanut butter on. As for the licking of a plate, it goes in the dishwasher with the other dishes and if the dishwasher temp isn't clean enough to wash off the dog licks then it isn't hot enough to clean the other dishes either. That would be a larger concern for me . I myself don't see it much different than my dog giving me "kisses" or licking my leg and she loves to lick. I accept that everyone has to do what they are comfortable with.

People let their pets lick their faces - even their mouths - and are afraid to put a licked dish in the dishwasher? People are strange.

We don't really as a habit, but we have if it's something the pups would like, like a little bit of cut up leftover steak.
I don't find it gross or even understand how it could be gross unless you don't properly clean your dishes. And then that's a whole other level of gross you should be concerned about.

No, she doesn’t lick the plates, but not because it is gross, but because she doesn’t get table scraps. We do give her a few bites of leftover meat, but not all of the sauces, gravys, and other condiments that might still be the plates.
