On a Facebook group I'm used to seeing a Pickles Tara so to me it's not a horror moment. Lots of people go by pickles so she may not be all that unique. Maybe she will have the nickname Dilly.

I’m guessing that’s going to be her nickname. But, can’t wait for the update after she’s born.

Well, I hope they are just screwing with you. As for Sparkles...nickname among family and friends-fine. Professional name-nope. Unless she’s a stripper, then it would be a perfectly acceptable professional name! And that makes me think of the scullery maid Bridget in the Trolls movie, who was dubbed “Lady Glitter Sparkles Seriously” on the fly when the trolls had to come up with a name after Bridget got her makeover and met the prince!

Forgive me for not having any good sense left apparently, but I kind of like it. Pickle. I'd call her Pickle Dee and snuggle her little snuggly butt with all that new baby snuggly-ness. Soon enough, she'd just be Picks or Kale because I'm not one to let a good nickname go to waste and on with life we would go.
I may have a perfectly good first name but I live with a horrifically horrific nickname both personally and professionally. It will indeed make you go WHAT? Her parents let that stick?! But I am pretty well known in my little field and nobody bats an eye. Most people are actually more shocked to find out that Elizabeth is actually my name. I've been married nearly 19 years and my grandparents in law called at Christmas to ask who was Elizabeth as was noted on the free return label I used on the Christmas cards! They did not know who it was! Life literally goes on. The bias towards my name is less so because my surname is stereotypically Anglo-Saxon. When paired with my husband's name there is a TON more bias as I am stereotypically fresh from the Sea of Galilee. He himself is not but nickname + his last name = must be Jewish. Stereotypes are fun... right?

Why is the thread title "Niece" has lost her mind? Why not niece and nephew? I would assume the op knows the niece better. I would throw my blood relative under the bus faster that their spouse, especially if they haven't been married long. Also, according to some peas, only blood relatives are nieces and nephews. Like if it is their dh's brother's daughter, it is dh's niece bit not the peas (not me)

What did your dh see that had the name on it? I'm thinking it was letters on the wall then maybe it's a name with the same letters but they moved them around to spell Pickle (can't for the life of me think of what that name would be, but it's gotta be better than Pickle, right?). If it's a joke it's actually rather ingenious! We didn't tell anyone yds' name till I was in the hospital in labor (and the only person there beyond dh was my sister) because it took us so long to decide on a name we didn't want anyone trying to talk us out of it.

I didn't read the article, but this morning there was a Scary Mommy article on Facebook titled, "I regret my kids name" or something like that. I would be tempted to share it on my facebook page if they are likely to see it.

I love to judge, but I'm giving this one up. Often conversations like these end up with people veering into very white-centric, even racist comments. So, I just don't go there anymore. You wanna name your kid SausagePants Mustardseed? Have at it. By the time he's my student, he'll tell me what he'd like to be called.

Well now it is time for the OP to delete this thread...that whole privacy thing and being able to google any references. Haha. I don't think typing pickle will bring you to this thread! It's not unusual at all! Remember Buddy Sorrell's wife on The Dick Van Dyke Show? Her name was Pickles. Of course, the protagonist's name is Dick, so you never know where things are going to go, do you? I call my kids Pickle all the time. Not their real name, but I think we get used to things. I remember the first "Jaden" I heard and I thought it was a crazy name. Now I actually like it and EVERYONE has that name. Maybe Pickle will grow up with best friends named Dill, Kosher, Sweet and Sour? You never know!

I am going to need an update on this thread when that woman has their baby and they announce her name. I am so hoping that this is a very elaborate joke to keep the name a secret.

We named our dog named Pickes! Everyone thinks it is adorable. Including me. But I wouldn’t name a child Pickle.
eta: we were totally inspired by the Dick Van Dyke show character. She was a showgirl and sort of ditzy!

But, but, but...is it possible they are trolling your husband? Knowing he would tell you the name? And you would be shocked and appalled. And they are having a good laugh at you thinking they are naming their precious baby girl Pickle? Maybe her name is really Deanna and they put the Pickle on there so family would sneak a peak and freak out? Poor little Pickle. This was my first thought. Something about them being careless enough for your husband to sneak a peek is, well, less than kosher.

Here’s hoping LAST NAME is not “Dill.” In high school, I had a teacher who made out the seating chart based on where we sat the first day of class. We were required to sit in that same seat for the whole year. Which meant that every day when she called roll by last name, we cracked up because Valerie Pickle sat behind Dennis Dill which meant she called out, "Dill? Pickle?" every day. Lots of people go by pickles so she may not be all that unique. Lots of people? I have never heard anyone go by the name Pickles even as a nickname, much less a real name.

One of my twins nickname was Pickle when he was little. I still call him that occasionally. 😊 His name is Nicholas and his older brother was just two when he was born. He couldn’t pronounce Nicholas, so it turned into Nickel them Nickel Pickle then just Pickle.
I’m voting that the they are punking y’all! Can’t wait for an update!

It is definitely as much DN as his wife! He’s always been a different type of kid, real dry personality. She’s due any time now, and I pray they were playing a joke! I swore to my DH that I would keep it to myself and hope it’s a nickname or joke. This is going to be interesting for sure! If it IS her name, I’ll be calling her DeeDee or Ann/Anna. I absolutely agree that you don’t hear of CEO’s names Sparkle, or Desire or Precious. Our family, and as far as I know, her family, all have traditional/common names. And DH pointed out that IF it is Pickle, their last name starts with a D, so she would be Pickle D. D____ (pickled). Oh man I have a headache!!!!

"Pickle" is the nickname that my brother's best mate calls one of his daughters. The other one's nickname is "Bucket". I can't imagine using either of those names for real. Also..... Horse scrap I probably wouldn't post anything negative about a friend or family member's choice of name here (or anywhere on line). I'd be worried that they might google their baby's name and find this thread. Mind you, it makes for an interesting story, and the Peas love a good "bad name" thread. I would probably write it like this: P!ckle or P.i.c.k.l.e to make it harder to find in a search. ETA: I just saw @megmc 's post about deleting the thread, so I'm not the only one. Another ETA: When I was pregnant with DS, we told everyone that if it was a boy we were going to name him Fonzie. The looks on some of their faces, as they tried to work out if we were serious, were very funny.

They probably just mixed up the letters in case anyone did go in there. I hope LOL, just for kicks and giggles, I put the word PICKLE in the online Scrabble word finder and there are NO other words that come up with the same number of letters!
