Are we going to hold Fox to the same standards? Of course not. Different set of rules for the GOP and their ilk. Doncha know?

Important things I have learned about myself #163: Apparently, I can’t seem to muster up even one small ounce of sympathy for anyone wearing a maga hat. Go figure.

www.nydailynews.com/news/national/ny-sports-covington-nathan-phillips-nick-sandmann-20190121-story.htmlBlack face is always inappropriate, regardless if the school has other color days. It would have been better for them to just wear black t-shirts like everyone else in the photo. But their face makeup is racist, especially in context of them yelling at a black player. Their lack of awareness that the school allowed them to do this, shows how incredibly misinformed they are about the inappropriateness of blackface. Julianne Hough got a ripped a new one when she did blackface as her halloween costume. Lying about being a Vietnam vet is not relevant to the incident. What he said on camera has been disputed based of the video quality, ultimately he was misquoted or rather he phrased himself confusingly. But what was determined is that he did serve in the marine core during the Vietnam war but was never deployed abroad. His exact words were "I am a Vietnam-era vet". He may have gotten in the boys face, but the boy had the opportunity to back the fuck up. Blackface may be inappropriate, but for anyone to frame this as if it was to mock black people is just wrong. As far as yelling at a black player on the opposing team, they yelled at them all, no matter the color of their skin. That happens at all sporting events (except tennis and golf) no matter what race they are. They don't escape the trash talking based on the color of their skin, or because the fans are having a body painting theme day. "I'm a Vietnam vet." "I don't talk much about my Vietnam time." "When I come home, I was spit on." He also claimed he was a "Recon Ranger" when in fact he worked on refrigerators. Those are his words, not someone misquoting him. If the school kids' sporting events are relative to this incident, then the stolen valor that the Native American committed is relevant too.

I thought those boys were rude assholes on the day it happened and nothing has changed that impression. Making fun of an elderly man while on a Catholic school boy trip. As disgusting today as it was the day it happened.

As disgusting today as it was the day it happened. I don't think the boys were being the assholes here. I think by Nathan Phillips walking up to Nick Sandmann and putting the drum right next to Nick's face like that, almost touching him with the drum and causing him to flinch with every beat of the drum, is being an asshole. This isn't the first time he's done this to kids before. He also tried to "teach some college kids a lesson" years ago.

They say a photograph is worth a thousand words and the one on “smirk kid” certainly is, if you look at the entire photo.
What you have are a bunch of 16 year old boys out and about trying to act like they’re a big deal and coming off as a bunch of smart ass punks.
It is easy to find the “picture” as all you have to do is goggle “smirk boy” and the picture pops up. Look closely at his buddies. They were clearly edging him on.
This same group of boys heckled some girls that day as well. On the original thread about this boy there was a link to a video I think is where I saw it. One of the girls took a video of the hecklers.
I also suspect smirk boy wore the MAGA hat to get a rise out of people. It fits in with the smirking and heckling.
I put this behavior down to the way their parents are raising them. If smirk boy’s parents don’t want to see their kid in an unflattering light in the media, then raise him right instead of filing frivolous lawsuits.

Nick Sandmann, the high school student in the smirking nose to nose video with a Native American in Washington, DC is suing CNN for $275 million for defamation. linkIs anyone else feeling less sympathetic toward him? Defamation? But you did it, pal. On camera.

A photograph allows you to create a narrative in your mind based on a snippet in time, as opposed to a full video that shows all of the event. That 8 second video that does not show what the girls said before they started recording is useless in determining if the guys were the instigators or the girls were.

Third lawsuit - NBC/MSNBC for $275M. So far, that's $800M in harm this young man's lawyer will have to prove. More than 50 media organizations and individuals including Sen Elizabeth Warren have received letters threatening legal action against them, so more lawsuits are likely. Is this about harm or is this about a bonanza?

A grown man thumps a drum in the face of a 14 year old for at least 3 minutes and we think the kid is an asshole. Who would be the asshole if the roles were reversed?

He also filed defamation suits on behalf of John and Patsy Ramsey, Howard Stern and Herman Cain. He's a high profile ambulance chaser. I do wonder when he'll go after the liar in chief and his propaganda network for all their online/on air lies. His client list could be enormous in that case.

I maybe wrong in my assessment of the situation, but, this kid knew exactly what he was doing and I think he stood there on purpose. Maybe to get his 15 minutes of fame. His PR propaganda was over the top and I think this lawsuit is also over the top. It is my opinion that those involved are trying really hard to get their agenda out - the "fake news" agenda. I wonder just how they arrived at the amount - just a good number?
I think that sometimes the news media is so anxious to be the first outlet to get stories out that they don't fact check or get the whole story. Unfortunately, in this day and time, the news media needs to be more careful and through.

I had to look up the disposition on his case against CBS (for the Ramsey family). Dismissed with prejudice (meaning dismissed and cannot be refiled). John Ramsey's separate suit dismissed as well. I’m guessing most of these lawsuits will be dismissed and whatever is left standing will be settled, but not for the outrageous sums of money.

Even if he gets a very small portion of that money from them, he will be set. Notice that they are also suing the companies that fit with the MaGA and trump theme of “fake news”.

But the deluge of lawsuits here is a different matter altogether. It smacks of greed, not principle.

They didn't and someone burned themselves with it to the point of needing skin grafts. So suing in that case was not greed, but paying medical bills and holding McDonald's accountable for handing customers dangerously hot liquid when they knew better.

How do you think a video of the events depicted in following list of photographs would have presented a different narrative then what the photograph shows? - Holocaust
- “Napalm” girl during the Vietnam War
- The man standing in front of tanks in Tiananmen Square
- The photographs of people during the Great Depression taken by Dorothea Lange.
- The picture of the sailor kissing a nurse at the end of WWII
- Picture taken of the soldiers during and after battles.
They tell a story, just like smirk face kid picture tells a story.
Sometimes a single picture gives a clearer look at the situation then a video or even being their and witnessing what is happening. That is the beauty of photography.
But hey, as always, you’re free to chose what you want to believe.
In my mind, those kids are smart ass punks. And they have their parents to thank for it.

The difference is that no one disagrees with what happened in those instances. The 8 second video that doesn't show what the girls said or did before they started recording is useless in telling the entire story. Did the boys school instigate or did the girls instigate the whole thing with them because they were wearing the red hats?

Nothing has changed my opinion of him either - if anything the lawsuits make it worse. The picture says a thousand words. And I agree it was a smirk.
I have said from the beginning and still say the blame is on the chaperones. Those kids should have been removed from the situation and moved to another location - away from the demonstration - to wait for their bus. If they had, none of this would have happened.
If the parents sue anyone it should be the chaperones - for allowing their kid to be put in the situation and not removing them.
I still think he was acting like a punk. And the Tomahawk Chopping kids in the background were acting like punks as well!
