I bought the FJ Holly kit last year because I didn't feel like the AE kit was enough product for what I would have liked and it was amazing! High quality and I was ok with the shipping because there was so much stuff! Oh reading this brings me so much joy, needtime2scrap. thanks for your imput. My only real concern is needing more cards, but I can make some or even purchase digitals so that isn't too worrisome. Did you get the album? Is it good quality? I am assuming so since everything I have seen from FJ has been. It looks/sounds studier than AE ones to me.

Anyone interested in discussing DD/JYC budget in here? I feel like it's a bit of a sensitive topic but it could be an important one to crack open before all the pre-order/order periods open. To those who (are trying to) budget: 1. Got a maximum threshold figured out? 2. Do you have a goal amount you'd ideally like to stick to? 3. Do you have any other purchases or savings you want to work towards to keep in mind before you do some scrappy holiday shopping? 4. Do you feel like splurging on scrappy December goodies in the past has had a negative impact on your savings/debt/spending money? 5. Triggers that make you spend and you feel you need to pay attention to before you hit that 'purchase' button? 6. Need an accountability partner when the DD spending games begin? Let us know and we'll check in periodically. 7. Saving for a specific crafty spend that you need to keep in mind before you start spending left and right? 1. I generally don't budget by dollar amount exactly. I try to fill gaps instead. Like I have a need for cards and no need for chipboard (unless it is Crate Paper that is always allowed). And even though I try to stick to it I sometime slip because I am addicted to certain embellishments.
2. I would say ideally I would prefer not to spend over $150 US but that includes an album, and shipping to Australia is always so much!
3. I keep my fun money separately from my regular expenses as it is the only way that works for me. The only other impending possible purpchases currently would be Blythe ( a collectible doll) related. I usually use birthday money for that stuff though and my birthday is in October.
4. It has, but probably not in awhile. I have been scrapping quite a long time now and I know, in general, what I will and won't use. I am another one who finds too much stuff overwhelms me and stifles my creativity, so I try to purge things I know I won't use to keep space available and this allows new things to come in without creating a build up of stuff.
5. My love of chipboard and puffy stickers sometimes is a problem here...I am trying not stop buying full kits if I only love a few things in it...that is what leads to clutter and that overwhelmed feeling. I have purchased Ali's full DD kits only twice, I usually purchase a mini kit, album and an add on or two. This year, so far I have just purchased the bits and pieces I liked from FJ's Holly (bonus it was on sale!) and I will probably pass AE altogether. I mentioned before that last year it took FOREVER to get my AE stuff in Australia and that really upset me. I am refusing to fall into the I-must-use-I-must-buy-AE-stuff-for-my-DD trap again. I am going to mix it up this year and I am pretty sure I will love it just as much. I feel so much safer because I have already purchased the album. The one year (out of 5 so far) I didn't get an AE album I used a regular SS one and it is CRAMMED. That year I felt severely stressed trying to locate an album as well. So that trap has been avoided this time.
6. I think I am okay here, but happy to check in anyway. Great idea!
7. No, I already bought my big collection spend this year when Shimelle's Field Trip came out.

It is covered with a smooth, squishy leatherette, not cheap chipboard where the corners crack. It's also taller and wider than AE's. I'm not crazy about the rings, they aren't as tight as AE's but it might just be my album. Definitely prefer FJ's over AE's.

I need to have my husband make some for me haha.

I didn't get the FJ album last year because I had ordered AEs before with the mini kit. I wasn't a fan of the AE main kit. But then when I saw the FJ album and kit I was disappointed that I didn't wait. So I just ordered the main kit from FJ. What I did like about the FJ kit is that it came with 12x12 papers as well as the cards so I had no problems filling in spaces that I needed. Like the chipboard pages that came with the kit, I was able to use a 12x12 sheet to cover it as well as cut the pieces to add to slots. I also felt that the prices were reasonable (in my mind) because the cost was the same as AEs main kit but I felt like you got at least 30-40% more product. I'm going to take a chance this year and wait for the FJ kit.

Oh, now I am super excited for it to arrive...and to see the new FJ kit too haha! Thanks for sharing your thoughts needtime2scrap. I always like hearing reviews.

1. Got a maximum threshold figured out? I don’t have one, I will just buy a few random things I like here and there. Since OA is gone I don’t feel the need to buy ALL of one line anymore. If Shimelle came out with a Christmas line I might have to buy all of that though. 2. Do you have a goal amount you'd ideally like to stick to? I think under 30.00 will be fine. 3. Do you have any other purchases or savings you want to work towards to keep in mind before you do some scrappy holiday shopping? WDW Trip. When I feel the urge to spend on scrappy stuff I just think of my upcoming trip. 4. Do you feel like splurging on scrappy December goodies in the past has had a negative impact on your savings/debt/spending money? Nope 5. Triggers that make you spend and you feel you need to pay attention to before you hit that 'purchase' button? Not really. 6. Need an accountability partner when the DD spending games begin? Let us know and we'll check in periodically.
Nope, unless OA rises from the dead, then I expect @imperia and I will just be egging each other on. 7. Saving for a specific crafty spend that you need to keep in mind before you start spending left and right?
Nope.

Did we discuss the big numbers in Ali’s kit? On the IG post where Ali showed the big numbers, someone asked her how she'd use them. One of the methods she suggested was hole punching them and putting them directly in the album, but I have to wonder if that would actually work. If they're meant to go in an album, I'd imagine they're not TOO thick and it just seems to me like they would be too delicate for either the hole punching or surviving being turned repeatedly in an album. I feel like they would splinter. Am I the only one thinking this?

Fortunately this project seems to get less expensive for me every year as I'm less inspired by the product and get more and more picture heavy as there are less design teams actually offering real inspiration. 2. I think of it in terms of product. I'd like to not add more to my stash. So, I'd like to stick to only what I will use, or feel comfortable throwing away. 3. No, not really. I think of them totally separate. 4. I have spent way too much in the past. I don't really do that anymore. I used to buy every add on, just so as people were creating with it, I'd have it and could do it too. Now, I have more than enough. 5. I like the rubber embellies and that is the only reason I placed an AE order last year. The damn rubber Christmas tree lol 6. Meh. I love how folks here break costs down realistically and share other options (often better!) I think that will work for me. 7. Nope. Conversely, I am holding on to a bunch of Holly Berry House stamps and am waiting for the frenzy of DD to start and I'll list them for sale as a lot. I can't can't buy any DD items until that is done. Supposed to have done it for 5 years now. I will not buy one DD/winter theme item until I've done that. I've promised myself. Can't wait to see the creativity here again this year!

I have been liking FJ’s recent designs, but I found last year’s December kit to be so muted and not to my taste. I hope she features a little more vibrancy in the kit this year, because I’d be down to pick it up.

Since this is a DD thread, I thought I’d also add here that I’m ISO CP Merry Days products. Must have slept through these last year. I may have some of the 6x8 papers left, and I could share some of my washi from the rolls. PM me if any of that interests you I sent you a message. Let me know if it doesn’t come through for some reason. Thank you!!

Don't know if anyone is interested in these--or if they have been mentioned before--but Treasured Memories (in Edmonton Alberta) just announced they have MME "Yuletide". Here are their Journaling Cards I really love these rich colours, and the B sides of the cards make them pretty versatile I think.

What I really need is someone reminding me that more isn’t better. I do better with just one kit. Too much overwhelms me. More isn't better! One kit is enough! Overwhelm is not fun!

I love looking at all the kits and collections but I usually only buy a couple of things at most and pull the rest from my stash. Less is definitely more for this project.

Saving for a specific crafty spend that you need to keep in mind before you start spending left and right? hahaha good old OA December Boxes. I used to love those so much. It was always a stuggle for me only to order 1 or 2 and not 1 every week. I really wish OA would rise from the dead, even though I still have heaps of their stuff, I still use it so...
I too would love another Shimelle Christmas collection! Her first one was amazing.
WDW you lucky duck! I haven't been to WDW but my eldest went and brought me pictures of her with Alice. You will have so much fun scrapping those pics!

I like these transparencies and the cards but agree, the cards are super easy to make in PSE. The Memory and Number are also on one of the stamp sets, so for those who don't want to do digital, another easy way to create. I think out of all Ali's sneaks so far, the transparencies above, are the only thing on my maybe list. Might not be worth buying anything this year....Wish I knew what CP's line is going to look like and whether these transparencies can work with that.

Colorcast designs is releasing a great set of wood veneer numbers, just shy of 4 inches tall. Check their insta page for details.
