I'm in! I hit 49 and started with high blood pressure issues. 50 saw thyroid issues. Things have leveled out so this year is all about getting back on track with lower carbs, more fruits/veggies, intermittent fasting, and regular health screenings. My biggest goal is to lose the extra weight. My mom had bariatric surgery when she was 63 and lost 85lbs. She is now 77 and her physical body has "reverse aged". Even her life-long astigmatism has corrected itself -- she only needs reading glasses.I want that.
Gotta chime in here.......... I just went for my 3 month checkup with my primary doctor. I need it b/c of my cholesterol (which is stupid--it's barely an issue but they force the Rx simply b/c of your age and risk for stroke!). I had high blood pressure beginning at age 42, when I was literally in the best shape of my life!!! I lost a ton of weight, went from a size 20 to a 2, took a new interest in all things healthy, and began a new life. I worked out daily and felt like a teenager!!! The hbp was inherited.
I came off of the bp meds about 2 year ago. My bp actually reversed and became low. Go figure. Might be due to my thyroid issue (pretty new, but also inherited). I'm on meds for it. Everything else across the board is excellent! They keep saying that I'm in "excellent health", except for the thyroid, slightly high cholesterol, and my stomach/throat issues from years of high-dose aspirin intake (due to a horrible injury).
Anyway, losing ALL of that weight helped enormously! I've kept it off since 2002. It's kept everything in check. I do feel like I "reverse-aged" also. No more knee/joint pain. I became energetic. My mom also lost weight and kept it off for over 20 years and will be 85 soon. She looks and acts like she's in her 60's! We both did it naturally (she did Weight Watchers, and I did Jenny Craig---the counseling helped me enormously). I was close to 200 lbs at barely 5', and got down to 111. I'm a little bit more now though--every 5 years you have to add on about 3 lbs for your age. I'm still in single digits for my clothes, and I vow NEVER to let food rule me. I do hope that you find your method of weightloss and reach that healthy goal that you're wanting for yourself, for your health. I wish you the best!!!
